    true joenoboma...

Some canadians do come to the USA for some procedures... but that number is a very, very --- small %.... So your basically condeming a whole system for a small % that didn`t use it in those particualr instances...

Since you know so much about Canada...than you probably also know that this spring -- the government announced that for the first time in history the Canadian middle class is richer than the American middle class...

Could it be that the #1 reason for bankruptcy in the USA is for heatlhcare reasons --- whereas in Canada they don`t have to worry about that... That`s got to add a lot to your peace of mind-- Where as in America everyone is worried about it...

If the religious people would step back and re-think their stance on living life to the very bitter end-- even beyond any normal situation.... and allow mentally able seniors to determine when to end their lives on their terms/ times... with euthanasia...

We would see a more humane treatment for our fellow beings...

    hawcreekl2...

Sorry to disagree with you about Obama damaging our healthcare system.... But... I believe what really damaged our healthcare system took place in 1993 when Clinton following Reagan/Bush Sr, signed the NAFTA trade agreement that sandwiched the USA with our corporations supplying healthcare benes to workers --- against 2 trade partners -- Canada and Mexico -- which both supply National Healtcare benes to their citizens...

NAFTA turned our current system into a JOBS KILLER....

CEO`s for decades complained about rising healthcare costs (double digit spiral upwards) ... and healthcare costs is their biggest expense for their labor force... When a CEO wants to cut expenses he cuts staff and hires temps and subcontractors because they aren`t covered under healthcare benes.... BUT than ... he realizes that if he moves 3 ft over the border ---- Mexico ( or Canada) will supply his employees with their healthcare benes and he no longer has to do the paper work and put up the upfront money for it, Nor does he have to recoup it by jacking up his product`s price --- which -- all those years made his price out of line against his Canadian/ Mexican competitors...

In fact he now gains the edge on his American competitors that haven`t decided to move yet -- because he is saving millions per year .. Figure that over 5, 10, 20, 40 yr time frame and the savings to his firm is huge...

So since Obama didn`t backed down on a National Healthcare system because of strong Pharm/ Med/ Doctor/Republican opposition ... and instead copied the Romney plan of just expanding the current system... He hasn`t really done anything to stop the job losses that NAFTA causes by making our current corporation delivered healthcare insurance system --- a JOBS KILLER....

And since NAFTA we have lost over 1 million jobs directly attributed to NAFTA and 2 million++ jobs indirectly attributed to NAFTA... (per PublicCitzen report, April2014, NAFTA 20 YRS LATer

I don`t know about those particular firms but thinking about the lost of manufacturing jobs in the USA made be look at the NAFTA agreement ...

Did you ever notice that NAFTA tied the USA with 2 trade partners who both have their governments pay for their citizens healthcare benefits directly ---- whereas the American firms have to put up their own money upfront to to supply healthcare benes to their employees as well as try to defer some of that cost by jacking up the premiums those workers contribute.... Either that or they hire temps and sub contractors who don`t get benefits... Obviously as a business owner you take that expense and add it to the cost of your product for which you raise your price to help recoup that expense...

Which means that under NAFTA any American company that moves 3 ft over the border automatically saves Millions of dollars per year, 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 40..... multi millions of decades.... b;y not having to supply his workers with healthcare benes... And that`s not even counting a wage differential....

You`d have to be an idiot to pass up that opportunity... Which means that our current system delivered via our corporations --- makes our firms anti-competitive price wise in a global market.... At least with NAFTA currently but it will be a global situation when they sign that 12 Pac Pacific Rim trade agreement and the EU agreement they are working on --- which means the same situation we face via Canada and Mexico making our current healthcare beney system anti-competitive will be magnified as we face the Japan, Singapore, S Korea, etc and the entire EU who all have National Healthcare systems...

It`s about time this country gets it`s head out of it`s backside and realize what these trade agreements are doing to us --- and that since 1993 when NAFTA was signed --- it automatically made our employer based healthcare benefit system --- obsolete and a jobs killer....

Sorry... but Romney wouldn`t be any better... You have no proof of that except your fantasies.... and the AMerican public is fed up with fantasies after the BushCheney yrs.

The word Massive under states it... As far as the eye can see to the horizon and as tall as a skyscraper these wind towers just dominate the area....

INteresting for a state that gave us Bush Jr , Perry, Nugent, and Gohmer

Words from the man that would have been heavily investigated --- if Eisenhower were in office....

After all the government had investigations into WW1, WW2, Korea and Vietnam wars as to reasons, costs, etc.... History has proved that the old saying `..We learn from past mistakes`.... is not a fools message...

which means that if you are selling the same widget as your Canadian and Mexican competitor--- with all things being equal -- your price is naturally going to be hire to account for the added expense of you having to supply your workers with health insurance while your competitors don`t....

Perfect reason for a National Healthcare system ... it`s not a jobs killer... and you don`t have to handle the extra paper work or --- put up the upfront money to cover it.... which means more money in your pocket as a business owner...

  • kcf_07757 kcf_07757 Aug 22, 2014 3:54 PM Flag

    drhari..........

Let me ask you something ....

Is healthcare insurance the biggest expense for your labor costs in your company? And, do you add that cost onto your products/services that you sell to the consumers...?? As a good businessman do you sell enough product/services that those healthcare insurance prices you pay out get recouped down the road with your sales??? -- Hopefully they do or you`ll go out of business, which no one wants...

And you`re right -- healthcare costs are a job killer (even under Obamacare, which only reformed the existing system).... and as you say --- Your company actions are proof of that... But I`m sure every business owner has complained about healthcare insurance rising over the last 20 yrs as it has increased by double digit rises -- way ahead of inflation and the cost of living... and that is even before Obamacare....

So my question is --- using your own statement that the system we use is a jobs killer... Than wouldn`t your company and every American company be better off if they didn`t have to offer healthcare insurance to their workers???? After all if your putting out the money for healthcare insur for your workers and recouping it down the road (minus the initial outlay and time delay factor) .... you`re basicly in a zero sum situation regarding this.... And the final payer of your healthcare insur bill eventually is the buyer of your goods/services (the American consumer.)

In the long run --- when your goods are sold within the USA this isn`t that much of a factor... But since NAFTA signed in 1993 ties us with CAnada and Mexico as trade partners/competitors.... Our USA healthcare insur delivery system via corporations ---- causes our corporations to lose the fight on pricing to our 2 trade partners --- both of whom have their governments pay their citizens directly for their healthcare insurance...

Question : --- What kind of crystal ball did he use to discover if Obama would even make it into college??? much less Harvard???

  • kcf_07757 kcf_07757 Aug 15, 2014 6:23 PM Flag

We the public already pay for a hidden national healthcare --- because US corporations tack that expense on to their products they sell --- meaning that their buyers (the American public) -- when we buy help reimburse that company for their upfront money they spent... Hopefully the company recoups that money spent on healthcare in full --- which means in a way they are playing a zero sum game...since they get repaid down the road.... So who eventually pays --- the American public --- ... So why not let the Government take it over and negotiate cheaper rates, etc... and consolidate it...

Otherwise --- it`s just one more reason for CEO`s to move offshore... and Americans watch their living standards drop... as we lose jobs and take lower paying jobs....

And if you think I`m wrong --- in 2004 Toyota announced they were turning down lucrative offers from AL, SC, GA in our SE region to open a new Rav4 plant in Ontario instead... the reasons they gave --- 1) didn`t have to pay healthcare costs which they figured would save them millions in the first year... 2) better educated work force than those states had... -- this they learned from the Honda start up which took longer than anticipated in the SE due to the extensive training that was required...

That Toyota announcement was what triggered me thinking that our current healthcare system was hurting us with our NAFTA partners.. and causing massive job losess..

  • NAFTA passed in 1992-3... tied the USA with our healthcare benefit system supplied to us by our employers..... to.... 2 trade partners - Canada and Mexico --- that both pay for their citizens healthcare via their national governments....

    Which means :
    1) Our trade partners pricing would naturally be cheaper for the product they sell since they don`t include the cost of supplying healthcare benes to their employees...

    2) Any American company that moves 3 ft over our Mexican or CAnadian borders would automatically save Millions of $$$$ over 1, 5, 10, 20 40 yrs being an EX PAT American firm.... Since most of these firms employee 300 to 1000 employees this savings is enormous...

    3) Our current healthcare benefit distribution system via our workplace ---- is now anti-capitalistic when it hinders our US based manufacturers from being competitive with trade partners we have been legally bound to since the early 1990`s....

    4) Obamacare doesn`t correct this anti-competitive aspect of our current healthcare benefit system -- just expands it....

    5) When/ If Obama 0r the next President (Repub or Dem) finally signs that 12 country Pacific Pact trade agreement that creates a massive NAFTA style trade pact (it`s based on NAFTA ) ... countries like Japan, S Korea, Singapore, etc that already have national healthcare paid via their governments will just make this situation much worse for Americans workers ... Also the admin is pushing to do the same with a new trade pact with the EU where most of those countries also have national healthcare benefit systems.... So we will lose more jobs --- not gain new jobs... Since the incentive is to get rid of the expense of having to supply AMerican workers with health benefits -- whcih is the US corporations major expense relating to their labor forces...

America is better off going to a National Healthcare system having the government pay for it than having our corporations do it...
