Appears to be resistance at the combined price of $40. I believe DAR predicted it would hit that level several months back although I don't recall the time line. Well we are certainly flirting with that level and I suspect we'll see it early 2015 if not sooner. GLL

Ken: How Are You Holding Up With VWEHX?

    by bush.wacker Dec 16, 2014 6:18 PM
    kenpalley2000 kenpalley2000 Dec 18, 2014 7:19 PM Flag

I am holding. My cockamamie theory is that since I reinvest all dividends then as the price falls I get more shares each month. I also assume that sooner or later interest rates will increase and although that may result in a falling NAV what I'm hoping is that as the fund acquires more of the higher yielding bonds the dividend will eventually increase and that's what I'm looking for. I probably won't touch this fund until 3 years from now when I will be required to start taking RMDs as I will hit 70.5. Meantime I'm not thrilled with this fund's performance but its OK and low fees. I have it in an IRA. What's your take and situation bush.wacker? BTW the pop over the past 2 days is that largest I have ever seen with this fund. Crazy market, no?

AI has a VERY nice dividend! I too bought it on a tip from the maestro. Guess I better call in a gift card also, heck I probably made 100 grand from his tips. Happy Holidays to you both and all other good folk.

    1-for 6 REVERSE STOCK SPLIT

    by gms47cb Dec 18, 2014 1:26 PM
    kenpalley2000 kenpalley2000 Dec 18, 2014 2:51 PM Flag

Impossible to say for sure at this point but generally speaking if a company splits 1-6 the dividend will increase accordingly. However until the split actually occurs, if it does, and they announce the dividend we can only speculate. GLL

Plenty of reasons to own it but it is not for everyone. Upcoming REIT conversion could be a boom or a bust. You should certainly not own it but I'm holding on. Even with the future decreased dividend and possible reverse split I think this will be a solid long term investment. GLL

I'd love to see it up at or near $6 but as long as those 20 cent dividends keep coming I will be quite content. I still expect the announcement on Friday and expect it will be 20 cents. GLL

NOW is the time to buyback shares

On the surface it seems like an excellent idea. However LINN management knows intimate details of their finances that we do not. If they have crunched the numbers, and their past record of good deals and steady distributions is any indicator then they have, and decided that paying down debt is a better use of funds I trust that decision. What we retail investors should be doing is buying shares. I did a 24 hour flip yesterday of 3000 shares ( Buy 9.50 sell 10.52) and made a quick $3K. If I had been a bit bolder and held on another 24 hours I would have made double that. I think we will see $15-17 within 6 months so do your own buyback ASAP. Apologies if you don't have any cash available for that purpose in which case it is not a useful suggestion. GLL

"The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent" or something like that. I bit too soon and my purchase of 3000 shares yesterday at $9.50 looks like I made my move too soon. Nothing to do but wait and collect the distributions which I believe are secure for at least several months. By mid 2015 we will have a clearer view. GLL

I don't think we will see the dividend increase anytime soon. I am hoping it won't go down much. really no where to hide these days. Gold is iffy, stocks risky, cash buried in the back yard earns zero. Reinvesting your dividends now buys a lot more shares each month so in the long run this can be a good thing. Tighten the belt, enjoy cheaper wines, stay healthy. C'est la vie. This too shall pass. GLL

    #$%$,
Pay no attention to idiot posters who make unsupported claims either bears or bulls. However, I think over the next 12 months your recent buy will be quite profitable. I doubt we go MUCH lower, although $9 is certainly possible, but I suspect we see $12 or more plus no decrease in distribution over next 12 months which gives you something in the range of a 30-50% profit in one year. Not too shabby. I am too old and have too many shares of LINN and LNCO to add much at this point but I admit to being EXTREMELY tempted to pick up a few thousand more. If it hits $9 I am in for sure. They now have a target of $22. that would be a 100% profit in one year plus the distribution ( if it is isn't cut). In theory that makes LINN a screaming buy. I'd be a buyer if I wasn't already well over my position max. I may yet jump in if it starts to rebound but right now oil is in free fall and the panic is on so all rational bets are off. GLL

Looks like we've seen the bottom, but the market in gas and oil is in serious turmoil so can only hope for steady distributions which seem pretty secure for the time being. GLL

That is the second lowest this year. Only consolation is share price is down so I reinvested at a lower price and thus got more shares. Still in long term holding pattern and hoping for better yield in 2 years when my RMD kicks in. Patience and GLL

I agree with much of what you say and do feel some guilt about owning companies that do somewhat evil things. However, my owning or not owning KMP etc will make very little difference in the capitalist world we inhabit. My approach is to invest for maximum safety and profitability and then donate lots of money to Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Surfrider Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, NRC, Audubon etc. People used to burn wood for heat, many still do, and that is not terribly good for the environment either. Until we control population growth, perfect solar and other "alternative" energy sources, get every home in the world adequately insulated etc etc etc there will be demand for and real need for fossil fuels. At least oil and natural gas are a bit better than coal. I do wish you a happy Thanksgiving and thanks for the thought behind your comments.
