Does anyone think we are likely to see an increase in the distribution this year? I personally do not but I do expect one next year. GLL

What I don't understand is with current volume after only an hour of market just about equaling the average daily volume who the hell is doing all the selling? Somewhat of a rhetorical question but I cannot imagine how so many shares are even available for sale, maybe this is a "long attack".

June 26th Ex-dividend date for WIN

    jack,
Close at $9.82 is essentially no change from yesterday once the $.25 div is factored in. If the next earnings report is half way decent then I can see going back up well over $10.00 by end of next quarter. Everything depends on having the cash available to maintain that delightful $.25 for another bunch of quarters. GLL

Lots of ifs. My big if is that if the dividend remains the same I will be happy. if it rises I will be happier. If it rises AND the share price rises I will be happiest. OTOH if the dividend is cut I will be sad and gone. I think most likely scenario is the first one. GLL

    jack,
I am content to watch the share price wildly fluctuate for years on end and just keep collecting my buck/share/year ad infinitum. Now that I'm at the break even pointy on my current shares ( bought at $10.00 0n 10/1/12) I'm just up by the div yield which is also exactly 10%. I can live with that long term.

I suspect a lot of folks are selling today because they believe that post ex div there will be a big sell-off and they want to beat the other sellers out of the door. Could happen, however missing a $.25 dividend in hopes of saving $.25-.50 in share price seems like a rather questionable bet IMHO. Oh well, that's why there are markets. GLL

    Failure to deliver

I agree that failure to deliver, if that in fact is the case, may not mean much in the long run but certainly raises doubt and uncertainty which the market notoriously doesn't like. Nothing to be done but be patient.

My sentiments exactly. However I just keep reinvesting and will likely do so for another 2-3 years until I will have to deal with RMDs due to hitting 70.5 years of age. I still like the low fees, the fund is only 12% of my portfolio and pretty much my only real bond fund. I do own VFSTX,. but I view that as cash since it barely goes up or down and it pays more that a bank or a money market and I can access it in 3 days in a pinch. So in short I don't see much else much better so I am a hold. Always interested in what other serious posters and investors think.

We are up over 25% PLUS one dividend in the past 90 days or so. If w would just get one solid quarterly report we could easily see another 10-20% share price increase. However, all I want is to see CAD (FCF or whatever you want to call it) big enough to guarantee future dividends. GLL

    Stock Share Buyback rarely work...

    by funniebucket Jun 20, 2014 10:08 AM
    kenpalley2000 kenpalley2000 Jun 20, 2014 10:33 AM Flag

Buybacks have their place but primarily help to increase share price which is mainly of value to people who sell or plan to sell. it doesn't help long term holders that much except that it decreases the number of shares outstanding that they have to pay dividends to. I'd prefer to see AAPL increase the dividend which would benefit long term holders. A decent dividend also insulates and cushions holders from the wild share price gyrations that can occur for reasons outside the company's control; interest rates, political unrest in the Middle East, short attacks etc. GLL

I agree, cooch. Right now those of us holders are riding the tiger. How and when to get off is tricky. However as long as the economy maintains it's current apparently upward trajectory I intend to enjoy the ride and spend the dividends. GLL

One other point, Dar re: SUI. Since mid May when the proxy statement revealed the enormous pay of the CEO the stock is up almost 10% plus another $.65 dividend just announced so as greedy as the top management may be there does still appear to be some trickle down for us commoners. Not justifying their greed just pointing out that we commoners are still WAY better off than the poor unfortunates who are not even in the market. Crony capitalism at its finest.

Another 20 cents, a yield of well over 10% and no share price movement. I guess the current high yield is fully "baked in" the current share price and we should all pretty much forget about any significant increase until we see an increase in the dividend. At this point I can easily live with a steady 80 cents/yr for a very long time. Beats the hell out of the 5% or 6% I'm getting with junk bonds and not, IMHO a whole lot riskier. Yeah, yeah, I know if the dividend is cut y'all are gonna bail, but in the meantime where else you gonna put your money for this kind of return? I'm wide open to suggestions.. GLL

I'm not happy about that arrangement nor many others, however as long as a enough crumbs fall down for us commoners I will remain a shareholder. Hamo has shown himself to be very smart and very much able to make sure he is enormously well compensated. I do like Dars suggestion about tax structures that would somewhat disincentive such extreme greed but it won't get through the current congress which is primarily in service to the greed freaks.

I suppose that sentiment could help explain the share price's having been languishing a bit of late if some larger investors and shorts sense a possible fly in the ointment.
