Oops. My brain is on fried mode this AM. The dividend has NOT been reduced it is still $.77/year. Apologies to all.

Dividend massively reduced from $.77 to $.195. That caught me way off guard. I'm surprised it hasn't dropped even more.

    underground,
True dat but it has come. No poster on this board really knows what this will mean but lots of BS will be posted here and on LINN message board. It is certainly not GOOD news and the likelihood of BK or some form of breakup or sale seems likely. I would advise anyone with shares to assume they are or will soon be worthless. I am not short, never have been, but am being realistic. Oil prices are not going up any time soon and are unlikely to ever get back to the levels that allowed companies like LINN to pay huge dividends. Keep in mind that for gamblers with money and guts this could be a helluva good opportunity. I remember when Ford went to around $2 due to GM and Chrysler needing huge Federal bailouts. Gutsy investors/traders made a killing. I flipped a few thousand shares from around $8 to $12 as I recall. Good luck to us all we will sure as hell need it.

    elvis,
With the markets extreme volatility these days, often based on irrational fears, I think that $10/share while unlikely is certainly possible before the year ends and would be a heck of a good buy. I don't really much care about the share price as long as the current dividend does not get cut, and I have given up all hope for a rise in the dividend any time soon. GLL

The following quote from an article on Yahoo shows I am not the only dummy around.
    Ken
"AGNC shares have been rising this week. Wednesday they were up 2% to $17.55 at 1 p.m ET. That followed a rise 2% gain Tuesday. The sector-tracking iShares Mortgage Real Estate Capped (REM) has also risen, helped along as the odds of additional Federal Reserve rate hikes any time soon recede. Arlington Asset (AI), a smaller REIT, was up 8% Wednesday after posting its first increase in book value per share in six quarters Tuesday."

Well share price is up over 6% so far this morning on modest volume so clearly some people liked the earnings report. I for one will remain skeptical until we get at least 2 or 3 consecutive quarters with no dividend decrease and positive earnings. I would also like to see significant additional buybacks as long as the share price remains so low. GLL

    cwn,
Thanks for the clarification. I do tend to think of AI as a REIT but you are correct of course it is not a REIT. What metric should I look for and was it in the recent earnings report? CAD? FCF? I didn't see either of them and they, as I understand it, tell the story of ability to pay for dividends. Any additional information highly appreciated.

Too much gobbledygook for me to get a good handle on. I was looking for AFFO as a clue to future dividends but I didn't see it specifically mentioned. The buyback so far has been only token, I mean under 50,000 shares isn't much when there are 21 or so million shares outstanding. All the 2015 dividends are classified as return of capital? While that means we don't have to pay taxes on it doesn't it mean they haven't actually paid the dividends out of free cash flow? That cannot be good. Also how meaningful is their claim of "book value at $21.05? Any of you out there had a chance to read the report and see any good news that I am missing?

294 unit complex in Atlanta GA. Google "Overton Rise GA" and read about it. Looks fairly high end. Financing at under 4%. Should yield at least double that. Seems accretive to long term dividends although I do imagine a follow on offering eventually to finance all of this expansion. I'm not in buying mode, 3000 shares is enough for me right now but if they issue more shares and price drops to $10 I might reconsider. GLL

    Should We Sell

While this post is clearly a scam the question is a valid one. Selling now seems pointless as the shares are almost worthless unless one has many tens of thousands of shares. However, it might be a good time to move some shares from a Trad IRA to a Roth if you can. That way if they ever rebound and start paying a dividend you are free of further taxes and if not the tax bite of making a withdrawal will be pretty minimum. If you are over 70.5 and facing a RMD then lowering the value of an IRA had benefits too. I'm not a CPA or certified anything but this is an idea worth contemplating. Appreciate any comments or criticisms of this idea. GLL

You are probably correct. I was going on the fact that the last declaration date was Nov 3 and 3 months later gets us to Feb. 3 but that is not a very precise method of guessing.

Well perhaps not ALL but that is certainly a big part of our reason for buying and holding this stock. Yes I know that management has been opaque, non communicative, sneaky and greedy. Can't be happy about that. However come this Tuesday or Wednesday ( at least that is my guess as to declaration date) if the dividend is maintained and future guidance is positive at next CC then most (not all) will be forgiven. I do not expect any increase but it is certainly possible. A cut will cause huge drop in share price. GLL

    latrdaze,
I appreciate your cautionary words. Unlike some I do not feel that only positive comments should be allowed. Your point is well taken; everything is great until suddenly it is not and in 2 weeks 10 years worth of dividends can be wiped out. It happened to me with LINN/LNCO. It is a good reminder to keep your stop losses in place and up to date. I think for STON 22 or so is a pretty safe number. GLL

    Joe,
From your lips to God's ear. It never fails to astonish me that year after year after year ( I've been in since 8/2011) some poster or another claims that this is all a scam and the dividend is unsustainable. So far they have been wrong for 10 consecutive years of increasing dividends. Here's to ten more. GLL

Pleasant surprise to see this morning's action to mid $28/share. Perhaps we'll see $30 sooner than I would have thought. One of the few bright spots in my portfolio today. If I had cash to spare I'd pick up another 1000 shares. GLL

Divvie announced. $.66. I doubt we'll see much of a response as it was already anticipated I suspect. Was hoping for $.67 but it'll happen soon enough.

I am not expecting much of any increase. Over the next few years though I think it is reasonable to expect a steady increase in the actual monthly dividend as lower interest bonds get replaced with slightly higher interest bonds. It is true that the December dividend was higher than it has been all year so I suppose that offers a bit of hope as Obamabou1 has pointed out. I guess we'll know in a week. GLL

    KMI is set to soar!

I doubt it will soar but I do believe it will slowly creep upward in fits and starts with a lot of volatility along the way. I think the big issue will be if the dividend gets increased his year vs next year and by how much. Keep in mind that at today's price the greatly reduced dividend still gives a yield of slightly over 4% and that is likely pretty secure. I'm long but not doing any more buying and keeping my fingers crossed to see dividend up from 50 cents to one dollar by end of 2017. If instead of increasing the dividend this year they buy back a few million shares that would be a stimulus to share price increase. GLL
