Not to be a nihilist but I suspect this is not based on anything rational and is just "a random walk in the park" so to speak. I think we won't see a great deal of price movement for a while, unless we see an increase in the dividends or an excellent quarterly earnings report. I'm perfectly happy with that by the way. Meanwhile to stay amused I have been flipping LNCO 5 trades since Dec 15.. With a name like that Lunco should be in it. GLL

I believe the all time high was January 2011. On Jan 31 2011 dividend was $.575 and share price was $32.15. Current trend can easily move us back to those highs now that the dividend has increased by 10 or 15%. GLL

Good job atlantic. You are already up over 3% in one day. Don't get too greedy, if it goes up a lot this week take your profits and wait for the next down turn. volatility is pretty much guaranteed these days. GLL

One other point, we get paid 13% while we wait for a rebound and I don't think a dividend cut is likely for many months if at all. GLL

    ronharv and other skeptics,
I agree that things look grim. However as the great Warren Buffet has said: "Be afraid when others are greedy and be greedy when others are afraid". In other words no guts no glory. Hell yeah buying now is no sure safe bet but I figure if Quantum energy with all their clever and sophisticated models and experts trusts LINN with ONE BILLION in loans then maybe they know something good about the future. I think atlantic scored with 9.32 and I also jumped in, a bit too soon at 9.50 but I'm betting I will make money on this trade. I will sell fast if their is a significant uptick, take the money and run is one of my investing strategies, but I've flipped LNCO 4 times since mid December and I'm up a tad over $11K in tax deferred account and for me that's a nice bonus for my retirement income. This stock and this kind of flip trading is not for everyone for sure. GLL

Over 13% yield makes the risk worth taking. With all the volatility in the Middle East and elsewhere it is hard to see not going back to at least $11 at some point this year. GLL

    aball,
I think you are correct. However I am both long term and short term trader. I have 5000 shares that I don't touch just collect divvies and another account where I flip lots. I have an order in now but for a lot lower than current price. I'm patient and if it doesn't hit my target I'll miss out on a trade but I prefer that to paying too much. OTOH every time lately that I ended up "paying too much" I eventually flipped for a nice profit. This volatility is great for flipping. GLL

    oil up lnco down

Dumb and useless comments because raising capital is almost always a good thing and this management knows how to put that capital to profitable use. However his point is interesting about oil being up quite a bit and yet share price plummeted after opening. I'm baffled but delighted because I'm looking for the price to drop below 10 so I can buy another batch to hold or flip. I believe the dividend is secure for at least 12-18 months and probably much longer and also that we will see $12-15/share before too long so buying to flip or hold is a low risk ( not no risk) bet. I have 1500 shares in two different Roths, 1000 in one and 500 in my wife's. Our tax person deals with all the K-1s and so far there has been no effect. The advantage of having all that lovely tax free dividends outweighs, IMHO any minor nuisance from UBTI issues. I suppose it is possible that my heirs will have some issues to deal with but they'll get so much that they can pay someone to sort it out for them. GLL

    ronharv,
My thoughts exactly. Medium to long term LNCO is going higher but I sold my short term position that I bought at $9.76 on 3/13 a few minutes ago at $10.34. A tad under 6% in 10 days. That's my 4th flip since mid December 2014 and hope for more. With any luck we'll see continued volatility and we can again pick up another batch under 10 before too long, if not my long term position is growing and paying. GLL

    ceo,
Well your prediction is looking better and better and I was clearly underestimating the potential. $11 seems to be a done deal and I guess your estimate of $13 by end of year is looking more and more possible, especially if they raise the dividend and the guidance one more time. For the record I am always happy to wrong on the downside. GLL

    jfred,
I agree 100%. However if you look at the entire world you will see that China, for example, still gets something in the range of 60-70% of its electricity from COAL. For them a huge step forward will be to move to oil and natural gas and EVENTUALLY to solar, wind etc. Also the number of people who want cars and are getting them in China, India and many other places is growing rapidly and however and for the environment that may be will insure high demand for oil for at least another decade or more. So yes, I do worry about the demand for LNCO's product over the next 20 years but not so much over the next 10. If you are a 30 y/o investor this is a problem but I'll be dead when demand disappears.
