    New to MU, but happy!

How soon? Days? Weeks? I think MU will stay in a watch paint drying $30 - $32 trading range for the next month at least.

I meant a trailing stop loss limit but I have no order in now. Will hold and watch this week. Nothing in the earnings or Conf Call to suggest a selloff for very long. kg

Got a bad feeling about today

    by codi.rocks Jun 23, 2014 1:57 PM
    kg2931 kg2931 Jun 23, 2014 3:57 PM Flag

My thinking on MU's low PE is it has been and will continue to be a draw to investors in this market where value is the play and there's not much else out there looking as good as MU. Also, MU has become more of a growth play than a cyclical play. Where else are investors getting this kind of value today? Having said that I do believe MU sp will drop after the call today but that's just because the street will be very picky. MU will have to tell us the future is looking very good going forward. Otherwise, we'll sell off regardless of what the numbers are today. But long term we'll be OK. kg

Thx cheetah, Like the other poster said, seems like Russ is just protecting his position, which I would do at this point if I felt safe doing Options. I don't so I'm considering a trailing stop loss at this point. Don't want to see it going lower than $30 on Tuesday. kg

  • kg2931 kg2931 Jun 23, 2014 1:45 PM Flag

For a non-Options person, let me understand. Does this mean Russ is shorting MU or bought Puts to effectively do the same thing? And how does shorting and buying puts differ. How might it differ in terms of Russ's sentiment? kg

Most profit takers finished doing that by last Friday. I did. Look at last Wed, Thurs & Friday's charts. I guess this coming Monday waiting for the announcement is just sit and bite your nails day... I thought about putting in a stop price but nothing makes sense until we see the numbers. kg

Fidelity didn't sell my $31.83 order!

    by kg2931 Jun 19, 2014 4:13 PM
    kg2931 kg2931 Jun 20, 2014 10:34 PM Flag

I know it closed at 31.85 today! And I was so happy my Rep was able to close me out this morning at the 31.83! Ha, go figure... Still glad I did. Murphy follows me around. Better safe than sorry.

Now, I still have another 2K shares to figure out what to do with next Monday/Tuesday. I think it will go down after the announcement. Question will be how far, how long will it likely stay in the funk before it resumes climbing again. This we have to feel out from the earnings report Monday. Good luck to all.

Been doing it every year that way. Use my own SW to calculate a cap gains report to compare what Fidelity shows. It's a nightmare but shows me a running tally throughout the year instead of waiting until after the year when Fidelity sends 1099B in their format.

Thanks. See my explanations below re "numerous lots" and tax time. However, I get your point. There are situations where not using "All or None" works safer for me, but rare in the small trade sizes I deal in. kg

Thanks but I find it hard to believe Fidelity couldn't find a buy order for only 2000 shares of MU yesterday. I've always traded "Limit Orders" with "All or None" and never had a problem, at least not like this one (24 hours to execute due to manual processing!).

I'll hate Limit only, as your order get's broken up into numerous lots which makes it harder to handle at tax time. I keep things simple. For years it's worked just fine. Course I rarely trade more than a $100K trades. Usually $50K or less. kg

Thank you. This weekend I'm going bone up on the different types of stop orders. Fidelity web site has some pretty good tutorials.

I've never had a problem using Limit orders or "All or None" orders.

My order just executed at the $31.83! My Fidelity Rep investigated this and told me that "All or None" order are still done manually. So, when he called the desk today he found out they were still processing the order! Because he called and expedited this issue they found my order while he was on the phone and executed it. My Rep said he's only seen this happen "2 - 3 times" before. For over ten years I've always used "All or None" orders and NEVER seen this happen. I think either 1) the trading on MU overwhelmed the market yesterday or 2) their was some glitch/problem. Will be interesting to see if others come out of the wood work next few days. Wow, did I learn something on this one!

I'm waiting for Trevor Blanchard of my Bellevue/Fidelity Office to call me back with their investigative answer. Will share what I find out. I'm guessing it's because I did a a Cancel/Replace and not a straight Limit order. Will see... kg

    mike,

"The "Guarantee" is NOT the price. It's that your order gets executed when it's suppose to."

Please explain more on this. I will be calling Fidelity today to officially require them to explain why my order did not execute and try to get them to honor my sale. Are you saying I shouldn't bother, Fidelity won't guarantee the stock price of my limit order, only the sale? Is it a waste of time for me to call Fidelity again?

Absolutely correct! And some people (me) are on Margin and can't afford to lose the profits we've gained and then sit another month to see MU come back up to this level to resume climbing. For me it's a timing thing. If I could afford to just ride out this Qtr's earnings release I would continue holding for months at least!

Must be profit takers keeping MU down

jami, 1) locking in profits before the weekend and Monday is the biggest reason for selling. I myself have been trying to sell half my pos at $32 since yesterday. Afraid I missed the boat and now looking at below 31.50. Unhappy at myself considering coulda shoulda had 32.40 Wed!

Based on the smart folks from SA mb past week I'd say earnings won't beat by that much and guidance will be good but how good is what everyone's nervous about. So, folks are taking some profits now before earnings and then will wait until the dust settles to get back in. Hopefully, within a few weeks MU's steady rise will continue as most here would agree...

I talked to my Fidelity Rep and he said Fidelity guarantees 1 second orders. I told him my bid order was the same as what both Fidelity and Yahoo were showing and for at least 30 seconds or more. He offered to look into. Told him I'd call back if I can't sell for the same or higher tomorrow.

I'm wanting to sell 2K shares before earnings and 2K shares after. I'd like at least $32. However, if it spikes up further and looks like it's going to close that way then I'll reconsider holding the whole 4K until Tuesday at least... Opinions/Comments welcome....
