I see you're doing this a a much higher level than I - bigger denominations and smaller/faster gains per trade. I understand now that you don't use actual "stop orders" but set mental 'stops' or points where you're looking to exit the order and keep at least some gain? This makes sense to me as a high frequency trader, thx for sharing. kg
Guess it all depends on your 'trading' time horizon. Normally when I do trade I watch all day long fairly closely so can react quick 'enough' when it goes down. If it stays down by close I hold because I'm rarely trading something I don't have confidence will rebound the next day or so. This means I'm not trading something that could dive in a NY minute (IPO's, high volatility, etc) and if the entire market all of a sudden crashes then my stock has a better chance than avg of rebounding. On the upside I set reasonable targets and adjust downwards as the day progresses setting a pt I won't sell for anything less. Stop orders, when I've used em, have bit me more than once. I'd rather stay in control as much as possible. Again, I'm not a sophisticated trader, don't do options or short but I do make money. kg
Yeah, as soon as I posted an article came out, ha! Thx for the link xq. I haven't been in the habit of going directly to the SA site, just been following my daily emails... kg
Unless you're not watching closely, why use stops? I just put in my sell limit order, watch it and let it ride. Even If it goes under what I paid for it by the close I just let it ride another day until I make something before getting out. Of course this is only on stocks I'm pretty confident with and have been stuck holding several days but 95% time come out of it with something (not a loss). kg
(I never remember this and don't have a quick link to look it up)
Not to say there aren't good deals out there and yes interest rates and home prices are dirt cheap (comparatively). But, never underestimate the value of your time and headaches taking care of your own home. Yes, there's contentment in home ownership but it could be argued the era where you come out better owning than renting is gone, or at least a wash. You must be good at fixing and maintaining and have a very long time horizon to come out on top (as an investment). It also lends itself better to a lifestyle built around a growing family... Good luck. kg
Know nothing about AMBA. It's 1 yr chart shows it's been on a tear since May 9th! What happened around then to cause this? Looked for headlines but nothing jumped out at me... kg
I hear you. If it can't hold 34.50 by Noon Wed I'll consider selling half of my 2K shrs.
I'm itching to buy 1K shrs SWKS at 65.65 right now, ride the escalator in the morning... kg
On the other hand, I see RFMD and TQNT are merging Dec 31st then R/S 1:4. Hate those kind of deals. This makes RFMD risky at this point... kg
#$%$, my mistake! CY's 5 day is good for only .10 - .15 a day, not "30 - 50 cent moves per day"... Still ain't bad for only a $10 stock though... kg
INTC is a good choice but AAPL is way way too expensive to be trading. I do have it in my IRA though.. Thx, kg
Thx nncy. Just looking at the chart CY hasn't been a steady riser over a year time frame but on a 5 day I see good 30 - 50 cent moves per day. That's what I look for. And CY has been around forever. It's a known.
I've added your three new ones to my watch list. Preliminary look - I like em. VDSI scares me a bit cause never heard of it and don't normally watch the security space. TSEM went on a tear today! Don't care much for it's cash/debt ratio. RFMD is definitely my choice of the three but coming to the party late also a concern. CY and IDTI are not as good) l'll have to watch these for a while... thx kg
While watching my MU needing another position to trade. At first glance Cypress Semiconductor (CY) and Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDTI) are in my price range and fundamentals and charts look good. Anybody been trading these? What do you think? kg
Isn't this great! I know you're right but I've ridden it this long! Wonder what's behind this positive move all of a sudden? Don't see any significant news last few days. Could just be the end of year rally. This is what I've been waiting for. kg
