The IBT owns 25% of YRCW. The union doesn't want to risk what they have invested in the company so sooner or later the union employees will be forced by the IBT to bend over and like it. YRCW will soon basically get what they are asking for plus the locals and International don't want to risk losing 25,000 dues paying members.
The IBT didn't force Yellow to buy Roadway and USF for $2.25 billion and put themselves in a giant financial hole. You also can't blame the Teamsters since YRCW is paying a non-union wage and practically no pension contribution and they are still losing money. Sounds like bad management to me.
This company is toast if they ever have to pay full Teamster wages and make full pension contributions again. Even if they hadn't gotten into the huge acquisition debts of Roadway and USF, the pension contributions would have killed them in the long run.
I ran into a former Riverside/BiLo driver a few days ago and he told me that the contract was up this year between Dubois Logistics (C&S Wholesale) and UFCW Local 23. I was just wondering if pdcbadboy has any inside scoop concerning rumors about what each side is asking for or what the general mood is as negotiations will start later in the year?
