I went to the local WalMart that had the 20' display last night (Aurora, IL on Kirk Rd.) they have reduced the display to the 8' close to where the 20' display was, another 4' endcap, and the regular 4' spot. There were no further markdowns, no additional cases of syrup on the floor, and I bought the final 2 Cooking Light Kiwi-Pear syrups. There were no Cooking Light Mango-Passionfruit syrups left.
My impression was 'wow, WalMart is really supporting the product'. Guess that's my bias showing. Go BJ yourself just the same. ;-)
I agree with the Diesel, please stop. Your Walmart experience seems to be unique (if true) and keep in mind Q3 2013 was the quarter with low syrup sell-in numbers in the U.S.., so the comparable is a low hurdle. That seems to be both SODA and WMT were thinking ahead.
Note: Seth pointed this out when I asked about potential inventory overhang.
No issue with the Play machine I bought. Sample of 1, that qualifies as valuable information on this board these days, right?
Have said it before but will repeat; the Play is great. SodaStream needs to make the 130L the standard canister in the U.S. (where 1L sadly qualifies as a single-serve)
I didn't mention PEP or DPS. Stop assuming. "Major Partnership" was the wording in the tweet. I'm sure others may have a different take on 8-K filings (I posted to get informed)
I'll admit I'm stalking Seth on Stocktwits, glad to see he's active again on the message board. Again this morning there was a declaration that SodaStream has signed a major partnership to be announced.
Wouldn't an 8-K need to be filed within 4 days if a major partnership was signed?
(I'm not asking with extensive knowledge of 8-K rules)
Other comment: it's clear the US consumer still needs to be educated on the SodaStream system, including how the CO2 exchange works. YouTube is your friend, SodaStream, even better if you use Scarlett. The company screwed up with "sorry Coke & Pepsi"...those that don't look very deep just view SodaStream as a cola company.
that nobody is commenting on Seth's comments on Seeking Alpha that a partnership is in place. My question, if Seth knows then who else knows? and why is the stock continuing its decline?
You're referring to the KitchenAid machine, right? The new SodaStream Play machine is inexpensive (especially with the rebates) and is great. Look at the prices of SodaStream machines, the company is doing as you suggest. I like that KitchenAid (I.e. not SodaStream) has a quality high-end machine, good for upscale kitchens, wedding gifts, etc.
There's a first, finally saw SodaStream mentioned in a commercial (on ABC). Kohl's is advertising a weekend sake and featured 4 products, the first being a SodaStream (red Source machine).
IMO Kohl's has always had the worst SodaStream display, and prices, so it's good to see them getting behind the product.
Enjoy the weekend all.
The announcement is likely related to production starting; Clearly Canadian set a hurdle of 25,000 cases pre-ordered before production began. That's ok, that's not the "stay tuned" we care about. ;)
The Clearly Canadian twitter account posted "we will be making a big announcement soon - stay tuned!" on Friday. While I would love CC drinks available for SodaStream (don't call it a comeback) this wouldn't move the stock price at all.
Stay classy, Dr. We all should have been listening to Martin re: the 4th quarter. I appreciate the information Seth brings to the board but he stated he thought the Q4 margins would be fine (Amazon was sell red Jet inventory from the purchased Italian distributor). We should have been listening to Martin. Now I'm hoping Martin is 100% wrong about the current status of SODA (and believe he is...the view is too 'cola' focused)
The benefit of SodaStream for me is how easy it is to have a variety of drinks to choose from. I keep 6-8 syrups in my fridge (not taking up much space) usually; it's easy to pick up a syrup bottle here and there when out shopping.
Making a drink takes no time at all. What else are people supposed to do when the microwave is cooking dinner?
A simple video of Scarlett showing how simple the system is to use uploaded to YouTube would have been effective. Her fans (not just the creepers) and the media would have found it.
Martin/Tony, I don't believe you have deserved the bashing you've received, not to the degree it has been anyways. I don't share your views as I don't view SodaStream as a 'cola' company. There are screams for a MAJOR partner; well how do Ocean Spray, Welch's, and Campbell's not qualify? The V8 berry and fruit drinks are great btw.
Does anyone view the WMT 20' displays as another potential inventory overhang situation?
PapaKoz, did you read anything into the "Who needs coffee?" Facebook post shortly after the "at the moment"
Why didn't they have Scarlet do a "How-To" video for YouTube, showing how simple the machine is to use?
Comment: the new N. Americs guy made a good first impression on the cc.
