Barra was slated to receive the award Monday evening in Washington.
Earlier in the week, the National Legal & Policy Center sent a request to the acting chair of the museum and congressional co-chairs, asking that the museum withdraw the award for Barra. The letter explained the center has concerns about Barra's credibility and continued investigation by the Justice Department related to the ignition switch recall.

OCT SALES: GM was pleased to report that its dealers delivered 226,819 vehicles in the United States in October leading to "the company’s best October sales in seven years." GM added that Chevrolet sales were up year over year on the strength of the Silverado, Cruze, Traverse and Equinox, and "Buick had its best October in more than a decade." Alas, Cadillac did not, October sales tumbled -8.0%, and are down -4.6% on a YTD Y/Y basis. Bottom line: total GM sales increased a tiny 0.2%, well below the 3.1% expected.
But it could have been much worse if GM had not resorted to its favorite sales "boosting" gimmick: channel stuffing. Indeed, as GM reported, in October, total units at dealer lots, rose to 792,489, or a whopping 94 days supply, up from 753, 928 (81 days) in September, and up a whopping 8.9% from the 728K in October of last year, when, again, sales were only 0.2% lower. This was the biggest one month jump in "dealer stuffed" vehicles since November of 2013.
Hardly a success story:
"What still has been ignored by the mainstream media (likely because they are journalists and not financial analysts) and certainly hasn’t been voluntarily revealed by the car company execs is the fact that GM and other car manufacturers’ inventories still remain extremely elevated. And, this is an issue because, although, these inventories count as “sales” for the large auto companies, they really aren’t sales.You see, when the car companies push their vehicles to dealer lots, the car companies are able to show Wall Street that those cars were “sold”, taking advantage of accounting gimmicks. In reality all they have done is be able to keep production high while reporting sales for vehicles that may actually never really be “sold” in the more traditional sense. These cars may sit for months or longer on dealer lots before actually being sold at liquidation prices down the road. The fact that inventories continue to creep up supports this notion.
General Motors for instance just pushed an extra 40,000 cars and trucks to its dealers in October, a very big 9% rise in inventories over last October and a 5% one month jump over September. Those 40,000 vehicles however count as sales for GM."

WARREN, Mich. — General Motors said Tuesday that its Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle, scheduled for release in 2011, would achieve a fuel rating of 230 miles a gallon in city driving.
Figures for highway driving and combined city and highway use have not been completed for the Volt, but G.M.’s chief executive, Fritz Henderson, told reporters and analysts at a briefing on Tuesday that the car was expected to get more than 100 miles a gallon in combined city and highway driving.
“Our Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle will achieve unprecedented fuel economy,” Mr. Henderson said. “I’m confident that we will be in triple digits.”
ACTUAL: 34 miles on single charge and 34 MPG on the gas engine.

US car companies are not competitive in Japan--lack fuel efficiency, ill-sized, poor quality, no parts network, and are often NON-American. Its a garbage tariff by another name.
