The recall: GM has “empowered our dealers with resources to provide affected customers with the peace of mind they deserve,” Barra said. GM also launched an internal investigation into the matter, ”to give us an unvarnished report of what happened” during the decade between the time the problem was identified up until the recall was triggered in January.
All of Mary's CEO predecessors (including Dan, Ed, and Fritz) lacked the stones and customer empathy do the right thing. Good job Mary.
Since the Model S can go 265 miles on a charge, you are only 35 miles short of your 300 mile goal. --35 miles also happens to be the total EV range of the Volt and ELR.
I am not so sure your rationale holds water.
Statistically, more people can afford a Volt over a Model S, but the Model S basically matches in sales volume, with no discounts.
Also, the China and European markets will outsell the US market this year on Model S sales. The same cannot be said about the Volt.
When Tesla announced the Gigafactory, it shows who will pioneer the cost of the battery. GM still "inspects" a Korean battery before it is installed into the Volt.
...But the commercial implied I would be successful and more sophisticated.
BTW. Did you hear the Tesla owners snickering and laughing in the bushes by the pool?
I think the GM was fully aware of it: Mary, Dan, Ed, and Fritz.--the new GM. It was/is their responsibility to know. Ignorance is not an excuse.
GM issued this statement Thursday: "We deeply regret the events that led to the recall and this investigation. As our detailed chronology indicates, we intend to fully cooperate with NHTSA and we welcome the opportunity to help the agency have a full understanding of the facts."Today's GM is committed to learning from the past while embracing the highest standards now and in the future."
GM: HOW IS TODAY DIFFERENT THAN YESTERDAY? HOW IS YESTERDAY DIFFERENT THAN THE PAST 40 YEARS? "Sell crazy somewhere else, we are all stocked up here."
I thought bankruptcy fixes all problems (union ethics, product accountability, channel stuffing, quality problems, money-losing projects, arrogance, etc..)
I want my TAX money back.
If New GM is stamping out inefficiencies, how come this scenario exists?
GM insists that the ELR's sleek design, superior driving dynamics and luxury touches such as a suedelike headliner and hand-cut-and-stitched leather will give Cadillac a brand-building halo car that will drive showroom traffic when it goes on sale in January. The $75,995 sticker price, including shipping, ensures that the ELR will be produced in modest volumes, likely around 3,000 annually for North America. THREE THOUSAND.
The Palo Alto, Calif., company said Wednesday that it expects to deliver more than 35,000 of its Model S sedans in 2014, up 55 percent from last year. THIRTY FIVE THOUSAND.
There is no way in hell this scenario would exist in a FREE MARKET without a taxpayer subsidy. In makes me sick that our $10B un-returned tax dollars are paying for bloated projects that no one wants.
It certainly is the new GM's problem. All 4 of the post bankruptcy CEOs knew of the ongoing deaths and did nothing!
The substantiated reason is that TN government intends to remove the $5000 tax credit per VW employee for violating its non-union ways. Ergo the cost to manufacture in Mexico becomes more attractive. Do your homework.
You post this nonsense on the day GM announces a recall affecting 780,000 vehicles that involves 22 accidents in which six people died.
I think you forgot that the Leaf is included in Tesla's mainstream approach-- with total deliveries of 22,610 for 2013. Add Tesla's guidance of 21,000 units for 2013, and you can clearly see EV-only has become mainstream when compared to PHEV.
Akerson is treating the customer (taxpayer) as if the bailout was their decision. Complete arrogance.
I'll bet their advertising dollars (wasteful money aimed at a forgetful public) are not as effective as a bailout repayment ploy (an honest attempt to make the taxpayer whole) .
Look at ALL the comments when $10B shortfall is raised; their are several more comments that point out the injustice and low moral ground than any other.
