  • From Zerohedge/Reuters today 10:29am
European partners have left Russia with "no alternative" but to halt supplies of gas to Ukraine and Europe, according to a letter from Russian president Putin to European leaders.

*EUROPEAN PARTNERS LEAVE RUSSIA 'NO ALTERNATIVE,' PUTIN SAYS
*RUSSIA TO HALT UKRAINE GAS IF PAYMENT VIOLATIONS GO ON: PUTIN
*PUTIN: RUSSIA UKRAINE GAS SUBSIDY WORTH $35.4B IN PAST 4 YEARS

The remarks, as Reuters reports, were the strongest sign yet that Russia could curtail supplies of gas to (and through) Ukraine affecting supplies of gas to Europe (as they fear Ukraine will siphon off Russian gas meant for Europe). Russia is already reducing its delivery through Ukraine but it stil represents 39% of Europe's demand. Gazprom has also been forced to move to pre-payment terms on any future deliveries (there's your IMF bailout).

It seems that A company like COG (nat gas) should be screaming to new time highs ($40+)

Seems that COG PPS is being artificially/negatively influenced and that the true market price discovery mechanism has been disabled/bypassed.

    What an epic disconnect...

Canada’s exceptionally cold winter weather may soon have a significant impact in Ontario’s wallets, as natural gas firm Enbridge Gas Distribution (TSX, NYSE: ENB) is asking the provincial government to approve a nearly 40% increase in the price of the fuel.

The move comes just one month after predicting that its massive storage capacity should mute any price increase.

The company said this is all because this year’s prolonged freezing temperatures have depleted storage pools of cheap gas, and so it had to buy more natural gas, at a much higher cost than expected.

The increase would boost the annual bill for typical households by nearly $400 dollars a year. A typical home spends about $1000 annually on natural gas.

Natural gas rates are set every three months. If approved, this increase would take effect April 1, 2014.

The same weather affecting the central and eastern US is having the opposite effect. Natural gas prics slumped for a third straight session Thursday, as traders expected production levels to rise in the spring, just as demand typically eases for the heating fuel.

In a post on the company blog, Yahoo! says their servers are still safe. But the company acknowledged hackers used a "third-party database compromise" to log in to multiple Yahoo! Mail accounts. The hackers seemed to target "names and email addresses from the affected accounts’ most recent sent emails," the company said. Yahoo! did not disclose how many accounts were affected.

FTNT has the critical mass needed for major move up.
    Supporting logic:

    New price target $26 (jmp)

    Market penetration(just received award)

Just put into S&P 400: (Fortinet Inc. (FTNT) will replace Harris Teeter Supermarkets Inc. (HTSI) in the S&P
MidCap 400 after the close of trading on Tuesday, January 28)

Buy out target (I like as independent co, but with the right suitor synergies--the sum of the whole would be much greater than the sum of the parts )

    Note:
Any company interested is now under the gun--as a move to $26 represents the base from which bidding premium will begin after move. They would be better off beginning now--say @ $35 (gives current holders $2-$3 incentive--they might get quick kill)
