What part of the article I posted didn't you understand? Bilingual education is a failure. Just look at the statistics not the politically correct BS.

Multiculturalism is multiculturalism regardless of the language.

I guess you are once again getting you "facts" from the idiot or just pulling them out of your a:**.

    Multiculturalism 'a Failure' in Europe

In the past four months, the leaders of Western Europe's three largest democracies -- Germany, Britain and France -- have each declared multiculturalism a failure, largely because Muslims in their countries have failed to assimilate into the mainstream culture and are now growing increasing radicalized and dangerous.

This, they have said, applies as much to native-born Muslims as to those born elsewhere who have immigrated to Europe. Multiculturalism has encouraged segregated ethnic communities to develop within which Western values such as equality of the sexes and pluralism are disparaged.

Last October, at a convention of her Christian Democratic Party's youth wing, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said "multikulti" had "failed, utterly." Germans, she insisted, "feel bound to the Christian image of humanity, that is what defines us. Those who do not accept this are in the wrong place here." She then added that immigrants who choose to live in Germany should learn German and adapt to German culture.

Last weekend, at an international security conference in Munich, British Prime Minister David Cameron argued that "state multiculturalism" had been a complete bust. It had muted British identity while encouraging ethnic communities to promote their own culture and values ahead of British ideals such as freedom of religion, equality of the sexes and free speech.

"Frankly," Cameron went on, "we need a lot less of the passive tolerance of recent years and much more active, muscular liberalism." He pledged that his government would more closely examine the beliefs and practices of multicultural groups that receive government grants.

Public monies would be withheld from those who oppose universal human rights or advocate sharia law over the Common Law, as well those that do not believe in democracy or equality before the law, and those that advocate segregation of their members from mainstream society. In this, Cameron echoed many of the beliefs of Pim Fortuyn, an openly gay sociology professor and Dutch politician assassinated in 2002 for advocating a form of muscular liberalism to protect Dutch attitudes toward such issues as gay rights, abortion, drug use and prostitution against intolerant attitudes brought to his country by Muslim newcomers.

Cameron concluded that under the "doctrine of state multiculturalism," different cultures had been encouraged to live separate lives. "We have failed to provide a vision of society to which they feel they want to belong. We have even tolerated these segregated communities behaving in ways that run counter to our values." But no longer.

Henceforth, the British government would actively promote British values and warn immigrant communities that "to belong here is to believe these things."

Finally, this week, French President Nicolas Sarkozy also declared multiculturalism "clearly ... a failure." He added that "if you come to France, you accept to melt into a single community, which is the national community, and if you do not want to accept that, you cannot be welcome in France."

It is hard to imagine Western leaders making such statements as recently as a year or two ago. Political correctness and the dual desire to win votes from ethnic communities and to avoid charges of intolerance from their opponents and the media would have kept them silent.

But increasing security threats from radicalized elements within their Muslim communities have encouraged all three leaders to speak out.

However, before we Canadians jump on this bandwagon and declare multiculturalism a failure in Canada, too, we have to understand what kind of multiculturalism we are opposing. I think Cameron spoke of "state multiculturalism" deliberately. It is the active promotion and funding of cultural differences by governments that have led to most of the problems with multiculturalism. Tolerance of cultural differences and acceptance of new Canadians by individuals and by communities is to be encouraged.

I would say the problem is with official multiculturalism. Private interaction between mainstream Canadian culture and the cultures of new Canadians will lead to compromise by both, a compromise that will blunt each party's extremist elements. But official multiculturalism discourages integration and in the long run encourages radicalization by telling ethnic communities that it is the broader Canadian culture that should adapt to them, rather than the other way around.

Official multiculturalism, unlike the private generosity and openness of Canadians, feels it is condescending for the broader national culture to impose any values on ethnic communities, so instead it almost always insists newcomers fight integration into the mainstream.

Multicultural bureaucrats, immigration officials, immigration consultants, ethno-politicians, immigration lawyers and human rights commissioners -- most of whom are authorized by government -- have all done their part to distort the naturally accommodating nature of Canadians and the natural desire of newcomers to fit in.

In the end, this forced, unnatural, public multiculturalism leads to the segregation and radicalization European leaders are now warning against.

  • The Failure Of Bilingual Education

July 30, 1997|By Linda Chavez, Creators Syndicate.

For some 30 years, the bilingual education lobby has successfully hoodwinked school districts into believing that the only way to help Hispanic youngsters learn English was to teach them in Spanish for four or five hours a day. Billions of dollars and millions of students later, some school systems are finally catching on that bilingual education has failed to deliver as promised.

Now, some of those school districts are trying to eliminate bilingual programs in favor of more effective methods. But state and federal bureaucrats aren't eager to let schools teach Hispanic children in English, as officials in Orange County, Calif., recently discovered.

Orange Unified School District enrolls about 29,000 students each year, more than one quarter of whom come from non-English speaking homes. Although the school district teaches some 8,000 students from 40 language groups, only Hispanic children receive instruction in their native language. Last year, the school system offered classes in Spanish to 1,200 Hispanic elementary school students.

Nationally, native language instruction is almost exclusively a program for Hispanic children, and the majority of such kids are not immigrants but U.S.-born. In Orange County, as elsewhere, these Hispanic students often perform below grade level on achievement tests, and many drop out of school before graduating, while Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Filipino and other non-English speakers manage to excel academically in English-language classes.

Frustrated at the poor performance of its Hispanic bilingual students, Orange Unified decided it wanted to try something new. Instead of teaching Hispanic students in grades K-3 primarily in Spanish, as is now done not only in Orange County but in many school districts throughout the country, district officials wanted to introduce English immediately. The district proposed that bilingual teaching assistants be available in each classroom to help students through the transition period but that instruction be provided almost entirely in English. In addition, the district said it would offer after-school tutoring to those students who needed extra help.

But to implement this proposal, the district needed a waiver from the state board of education, which requires Spanish language classes for Hispanics. State bilingual education officials strenuously objected, claiming that Hispanic youngsters would be irreparably harmed if they were taught English first. But Orange County persevered and sought approval from the board itself. After months of wrangling, the board voted narrowly to permit Orange County to experiment with English language instruction for one year beginning Aug. 1.

Orange County's problems are not over yet, however. The U.S. Department of Education has already sent out threatening letters warning the district that its plan may violate federal civil rights laws, and local activists have filed discrimination complaints against the district. Nonetheless, if Orange County succeeds in breaking the bilingual monopoly in Hispanic education, other school districts in California and elsewhere will follow suit. Already, three smaller California districts have been granted waivers, and more are waiting in the wings.

The truth is bilingual education has failed Hispanic children miserably. A recent review of bilingual education research by the National Research Council confirms what many classroom teachers have known for years: Native-language instruction offers no special benefits to non-English speakers, nor do students perform better if they are taught by teachers who share their same ethnic background. What's more, programs that emphasize cultural and ethnic differences in the classroom appear to be counterproductive, reinforcing stereotypes.

These findings, of course, cast doubt on the whole theory behind bilingual, bicultural education that federal and state bureaucrats have been pushing for decades. But what makes the NRC review most damaging is that the study authors are well-known advocates of bilingual education. Nonetheless, about the best the authors can say for the program is that they aren't sure whether there will be long-term "advantages or disadvantages" to teaching children to read first in their native language rather than English, "given a very high-quality program of known effectiveness in both cases."

With such faint praise coming from proponents of bilingual education, no wonder some school officials are eager to try something else. After forcing a 30-year bilingual stranglehold on the education of Hispanic children, federal and state officials should be willing to give school districts that chance.

flop, one of your main excuses for disagreeing with conservatives is we watch Fox, which you in your infinite wisdom have deemed as unworthy. If only we would watch a news outlet that you in your objective view is worthy of watching. Maybe MSNBC would be OK with you or The Daily KOS, MediaMatters or MoveOn.org. Please let us sit at your feet and you can give us "real, objective" news outlets that you approve of.

I watch Fox because I get a different view of the news that isn't offered by any of the other cable or the main stream media whom I believe are in the tank for the socialists. Diversity is healthy. Apparently you don't think so. Maybe we should all wear the same clothes, a uniform, and march to the same drummer.

Using Fox to disparage your opposition is pretty lame. Unlike liberals who follow blindly, I make up my own mind. I am a real independent. I don't like the Republicans but have to vote for them because I dislike the Socialists even more and there isn't a string viable third party.

  • Reporter Blasts Clinton Royalty: 'Who Gets to Hold Her Crown While She Speaks?'

    8:04 AM, Aug 19, 2014 • By DANIEL HALPER

Nevada reporter Jon Ralston rips Hillary Clinton for demanding "royal treatment" in an upcoming visit to Las Vegas:

"The price of Hillary Clinton's scheduled speech and UNLV fundraiser could be going up. Las Vegas Review Journal, which obtained Clinton's contract with the UNLV Foundation, reports in addition to her speaking fee of $225,000, Clinton is demanding a private jet, a presidential suite and adjoining rooms for her entourage, and Clinton refuses to mingle with the common folk. She wants to approve any media types attending the event.

"And now, a word about royalty. We don't have kings and queens in America, or at least we shouldn't. But when I see the red carpet UNLV is rolling out for Hillary Clinton in two months I start to wonder. Unless you're a mindless partisan, the details of that contract with the UNLV Foundation should disturb you. They were uncovered, as I said by the RJ's Lara Myers, and published over the weekend. The contract reads as if Hillary is being given the, yes, royal treatment. Now it is bad enough that the UNLV Foundation folks agreed to that outrageous $225,000 fee as students struggle to make ends meet.

"But the contract they signed shows they were willing to agree to terms no self-respecting institution would. She wants a private jet, a presidential suite, rooms for staff, and, get this, all cell phone charges for everyone paid for. Oh, and if the $225,000 is not enough UNLV has to spring for a stenographer, and no one gets to see the transcription except -- Hillary. No media coverage at all, no statements, keep the rabble out of the room. The contract also says Hillary is not -- and this is in all caps -- endorsing the sponsor. That is, she does not want anyone to think that she actually likes UNLV. No one can take a picture of Hillary and post it to Facebook or tweet it unless, of course, you get her agent's permission.

"I gather UNLV held firm on a provision that no one was allowed to look her directly in the eye and that men were supposed to bow and women curtsy before her. I don’t know who should be more embarrassed, Hillary or UNLV? I only have one question: Who gets to hold her crown while she speaks?"

flop, last week when I asked you why you would believe a word The Living God said, you told me you didn't trust him at all so why would you trust him when he says all of his scandals are phony? I can understand the idiot believing him. The idiot worships The Living God and probably believes that you really can keep your health plan and your doctor.

The IRS scandal, using the IRS as a political weapon, threatens our constitution and our two party system. I don't believe for a minute that all of those computers belonging to IRS officials involved in this illegal and vile scandal crashed all at one time. Why would you? People need to go to jail over this scandal as well as fast and furious yet not even one person has been fired. I find that strange and part of the cover up. If you fire high official who are involved in illegal activity they just might blow the whistle on the admin official involved and that might go as high as The Living God himself. But we will never find out if there is no real investigations which is not happening.

So please tell me how you know The Living God is not involved in these scandals?

These are the facts...Draw your own conclusions!
A lot of Americans and Canadians have become so insulated from reality that they imagine that America/Canada can suffer defeat without any inconvenience to themselves.

    Pause a moment, reflect back.

These events are actual events from history.

    They really happened!

    Do You Remember?

    1. In 1968, Bobby Kennedy was shot and killed...By a Muslim male.

    2. In 1972 at the Munich Olympics, athletes were kidnapped and massacred...By Muslim males.

    3. In 1972 a Pan Am 747 was hijacked and eventually diverted to an Arab country where a fuse was lit on final approach and it was blown up shortly after landing...By Muslim males.

    4. In 1973 a Pan Am 707 was destroyed in Rome, with 33 people killed, when it was attacked with grenades...By Muslim males.

    5. In 1979, the US embassy in Iran was taken over...By Muslim males.

    6. During the 1980's a number of Americans were kidnapped in Lebanon...By Muslim males.

    7. In 1983, the US Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up...By Muslim males.

    8. In 1985, the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked and a 70 year old American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard in his wheelchair...By Muslim males.

    9. In 1985, TWA flight 847 was hijacked at Athens, and a US Navy diver trying to rescue passengers was murdered...By Muslim males.

    10. In 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed...By Muslim males.

    11. In 1993, the World Trade Center was bombed the first time...By Muslim males.

    12. In 1998, the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed...By Muslim males.

    13. On 9/11/01, four airliners were hijacked; two were used as missiles to take down the World Trade Centers and of the remaining two, one crashed into the US Pentagon,
and the other was diverted and crashed by the passengers. Thousands of people were killed...By Muslim males.

    14. In 2002, the United States and Canada and others fought a war in Afghanistan...Against Muslim males.

    15. In 2002, reporter Daniel Pearl was kidnapped and beheaded by---You guessed it---Muslim males.

No, I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you? These 15 incidents are merely coincidence. So, to ensure we Americans/Canadians never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people. Absolutely No Profiling!

They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winner and former Governor Joe Foss, but..............

Leave Muslim Males alone lest they be guilty of profiling.

Have the American/Canadian People completely lost their Minds, or just their Power of Reason?

Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Alreds and other stupid attorneys along with Federal Justices that want to thwart common sense, feel ashamed of themselves--if they have any such sense.

As the writer of the award winning story 'Forrest Gump' so aptly put it, 'Stupid Is As Stupid Does'.

rdot, communism only survives when the leaders oppress their populations through terror and mass murder. Communist regimes murders make Hitler look like a girl scout. In the last century alone they killed over 100 million of their own citizens and yet the worshipers revere them. We have Marxist professors in our universities. In fact The Living God in his memoirs said he hung out with them. This to me is like saying he hung out with people who thought mass murder was OK or he hung out with N:A:ZI professors. I find it disgusting. Worshiper think it's cool.
