Unbelievable that TCM will be broadcasting Gone with the wind tonight. How are they going to get away with showing the Confederate flag that many time in this movie? This move show be banned from being shown. The cable companies should also put a stop to this and pull the show. Type message
CenturyLink says the telco is cutting 1,000 jobs across the country over the next few weeks. At the end of June, the company had 44,400 employees nationwide, already down from 45,500 employees the telco had at the end of the second quarter in 2014. The cuts come after CenturyLink's recent earnings indicated the telco lost 9,000 broadband, and 161,000 traditional phone customers during the second quarter.
While CenturyLink is offering gigabit service in a few key locations, the vast majority of its customers remain on last-generation DSL, and are easily lured away by faster cable broadband options.
"CenturyLink, as all businesses, continually evaluates its cost structure and business practices and adjusts its operations to meet the needs of the business," the company said. "After careful consideration, CenturyLink has made the difficult decision to reduce its workforce. This includes current positions as well as not backfilling open positions."
CenturyLink says the layoffs shouldn't hinder the company's promised expansion of 1 Gbps service to additional markets, though the company has refused to specify a target total for these deployments, which residents in some markets have complained have been over-stated.
