Claude Medlock, 51 was observed shoplifting from a Kroger grocery store in Arlington, Texas. One of the store’s managers followed Medlock out of the store and attempted to stop him for his crime. According to witnesses, one of which videoed what happened on her cell phone, Medlock tried to stab the manager with his knife. The manager then shoved Medlock into a parked car, enabling him to disarm the thief. Medlock continued to resist being detained so the manager slammed him to the ground to subdue him and hold him until police could respond.
Arlington police reported that Medlock has a long criminal history of theft and robbery. When asked about the store manager’s actions in stopping, disarming and subduing Medlock, they said that his actions were justifiable and that he committed no crime.
However, Kroger felt differently and subsequently fired the manager for his actions

To be done using tax dollars. The developer is in essence able to avoid development costs because they are paid for by taxes, which then are repaid as the assessed value of the now-improved land goes up. Those benefits fall to the developer. But, to the extent the developer does not have those costs, the savings may be used to entice major tenants by offering below-market occupancy costs. Whether Kroger got any of those is between Property Commerce and Kroger. Don't ask if your pro union pro Kroger.

If the grocery store, builds, the tax revenue that benefits the school district generated by the property will increase exponentially. Fifty percent of that is a lot more tha 100 percent of the revenue the property currently generates.
Public officials, including school board members, should remember abatements don't decrease current tax revenue, they create new tax revenue....SAME goes for Walmart...goose and the gander.
