When I look at PG, for example, I see a company trading at about 20x earnings, growing revenue in the low-single digits and earnings in the mid single digits - not particularly impressive. It's a company with a payout ratio in the 60% range and a yield of three percent. On the brighter side, PG's diverse consumer products portfolio certainly isn't going belly-up overnight, and isn't as economically sensitive as other higher-growth businesses. Still, the market could decide at some point to re-price PG, slapping it with a lower valuation and higher dividend, given its utility-like attributes. At that point, I might consider buying.
Meanwhile, If I owned PG, I probably would not be in a rush to sell it with its positive characteristics, although I'm not a buyer either, given continued lackluster sales growth
The only issue is that S&P500 is way "OVERBOUGHT" now again.....and QE is over so....a pullback of really 20-25% is expected.....16X EPS for S&P 500 is far from cheap!!!
"Today's statement shows the Fed believes the economy is nearing the final stages of full recovery," said Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist at the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi, in a note to clients. "They halted the QE purchases today, and tomorrow, rate hikes are coming. Bet on it."
Gold dropped and the dollar jumped after the statement came out Wednesday afternoon. Gold fell $17.70, or 1.4 percent, to $1,211.70 an ounce.
