Baby Boomers are alive and well, thank you. We're getting retirement checks, still working and ENJOYING LIFE. Some like bikes, some like Mach 1's, TransAms, Carmaros, Corvettes, 32 fords and most anything with wheels. A two lane blacktop cruise through the country will clear you brain every time. City dwellers are the ones that come up short....

  • Did a spring change yesterday for a customer in Woodway and complimented him on his new car. He said he bought it for his daughter and she doesn't have her drivers license yet. YIKES!
i told him i bought a gold 73 Plymouth Satelite 2-dr hardtop for my Son's first car for 400 bucks. The car ran great, but teenage kids aren't the best drivers around. Soon after, he scraped a fence and damaged the drivers side, but still practiced for another year and i sold it for 300 bucks. For graduation, i gave him a Red 69 Mustang Mach I, S-code 390 4-speed car and nineteen years later he still has it and it's gone up 5 or 6 times the original cost of 4200 bucks. Never buy your teenage Child a new car. my humble opinion of course....

Saving money?? 50 steps from our shop, Boeing had their own heat treating area. If i remember right, they had two workers on days, two on swing and one on graveyard and they shared a supervisor from another area. In house heat treating with their own inspector. Now, they truck the parts down to the Auburn area by Boeing drivers (30+ miles each way) and have their heat treating and inspecting out of house and then truck the parts back. That is not cost effective by any stretch of the imagination and i don't think quality control is nearly as good. my humble opinion of course....

i worked at Boeing Plant 2 in Seattle from 66 to 70 and i think the pay was around 3.50 an hour back then. i worked out on the bench in A-3730 for about an hour before a Supervisor took a look at my wing tip shoes and dress slacks and literally took me by the arm into Breakdown. A cushy job getting blueprints and rept's for new tooling orders on the 737. Sometimes i would come in on graveyard shift and find 50 or 60 new orders on my desk. i worked one stretch of 70 days straight, so i made about 98 bucks on the weekend, which was enough to rent a nice one-bedroom apartment for a month. At that time, you could also rent a house in the area for 125 bucks a month. My best buddy there rented a big house, a block up from Alki beach in West Seattle, for 100 bucks a month. Each area had to bring in a certain number of workers on the weekend, even though the pace was much slower and relaxed than during the week. It was a great job.

i drive by the Everett Plant all the time now and Sunday overtime cars are getting scarce, but Boeing could save a ton of $$$$ by cutting down weekend work....

In many cases, low income shoppers are going to the neighborhood rip-off stores and paying crazy prices. i don't think Costco is looking for low income spenders.
WM might consider cutting expansion and concentrating on the stores they have. Spending $$$$ like crazy is not always a good idea....

When customers are tightening their spending belts, these are the winners by far. The trendy ones like Whole Foods aren't so trendy anymore. Strawberry ice cream is a tasty one to grab at WM for under 3 bucks....

You can't try to please everybody or it'll drive you NUTS! Depression is an awful, awful affliction, but if you're suffering from that, you have to turn to GOD for help. It costs nothing but a few minutes of your time every day. Turning to drugs or alcohol only makes things worse and taking your own LIFE puts your Soul in deep, deep jeopardy....

Fuel pumps in the gas tank?? Whoever came up with that stupid idea should be taken out behind the woodshed....

  • mandan14shooter by mandan14shooter Aug 12, 2014 12:09 PM Flag

We were in the Dairy Queen drive through yesterday when the fuel pump died. The same thing happened about 5 years ago in a customers driveway, where i fixed it. my Son pushed the truck into a parking spot and i walked next door to O'Reilly's for the part, but they didn't have one in stock. i walked across the intersection to AZO and they did have ONE in stock for the 79 Ford 460 at 25 bucks. my Son doesn't mind getting his hands greasy, so he jumped under it and 15 minutes later we were on the road again. i bought that truck many years ago at 49k original miles and with 199k miles on it now and two fuel pumps, a few distributor caps and a few brake parts later, it still runs like a Swiss watch. The heads have never been off. Old trucks might be a little thirsty, but they are hard to beat. If you were in that same situation with a newer truck, what would you do besides call a wrecker and pay a few hundred bucks??
