The Mercury brand sold around 300K units for many years and hit its peak in 78 (635K) and 79 (669K) units sold. my 1st car was a blue 51 Merc Convertible (80 bucks) and i also had a very nice 50 Merc 2-dr. (125 bucks) and now i have a very nice, original, old Mercury wagon hanging from the garage ceiling (125 bucks). Mercury was dying out and Ford was probably right to kill it off. The old 50's Mercs are very cool....

the earth's in trouble and the people in pain
been gone so long, we're beginning to worry.
Need a little help, can't you come back again."

"Don't go walking in the woods tonight,
devil gonna getcha if you don't do right.
    I don't know but i've been told,
streets of Paradise paved in gold."

His song "Maybelline" blows the doors off Chucks version.

The one and only Hoyt Axton....oh yea
i've seen him live in concert two or three times. What a voice.
    Say a prayer for him....please....

  • i bought one at Lowe's a few months ago and what a little workhorse it is. The local dumps doesn't like anyone throwing in anything longer than 8 feet. We dispose of a lot of 16' and some 18' wood door sections and they have never bothered us, but it's nice to cut them in half before we throw them in there. Some doors are so heavy, we cut them in pieces before taking them out. It's also the perfect saw for trimming limbs and branches around the yard and the battery lasts a long time and charges fast. No hassle trying to start the old ones anymore and it's a much lighter unit. Try it and you'll like it....

What was it with jimmy carter?? 18 or 20% and people didn't jump out windows. People have to realize that when you put GOD first or very high up the ladder, everyday things will fall into place. You could be a billionaire and not do that, you are a LOSER. It's hard for a lot of families, but everyone should work to be debt free....

i would bet that Mrs. Palin is smarter than 99.9% of the FOOLS that attack her. Go back in your bedroom and shut up. Read a comic or play a video game and stop wetting on your computer....

A rickety, rusty old motorbike can bring 100 grand these days and smoke to high heaven all the way down the road. Old cars are also priced off the chart. A long time customer had a 30's Buick 4dr, gangster car and a a 31 Olds coupe in his garage the first time i went there. The NICE Olds coupe had a rumble seat and was a very rare car, with only 910 made and cost 1277 bucks new. The 2nd time, the Olds was gone and he said that his son wanted it. Last week i went over there to put a garage door opener in for him and asked him if his son ever did anything with the Olds. He said the son wanted to get it out of his garage and sold it to a company that apparently resells and gives a portion to charities. Being a nosy guy, i asked him what he sold it for? He replied....519 dollars....WHAT??!!!! YIKES!! Your kidding me right?? ....NO....

A guy wanted, or should i say his wife wanted a NON-INSULATED aluminum door with glass in every section. He wanted satin etch glass, so i looked at the job and gave him a bid, which was more than a thousand dollars less than the other two bids. He called back and wanted to change it to a 7/32" glass from the 1/8", which added another 158 lbs. which took it to 641 lbs. Again, i tried to talk him into a NICE raised panel, FULLY- INSULATED, steel on both sides, door with a nice glass section, which weighed 280 pounds, but he wasn't buying it, or should i say his wife wasn't buying it. The door only had about 7" of head room which needed low-clearance hardware and 4 rear mounted springs. Not a good setup for an elephant sized door, which could lead to problems down the road. The customer IS NOT always right. Believe it or not....

The last and best year for that car in my humble opinion. i bought one about 25 years ago for 900 bucks. i had to weld in a couple lower qtr panels, but the pan was nice and the car ran nice. The seller told me that two older sisters went over to Germany and bought the car at the factory. They drove it around Europe for a couple weeks and then shipped it home. They told the kid that the car was the LAST GHIA off the assembly line and i was too stupid to check out the vin number. i painted it a nice Black Imron and put on a new white headliner and Black Robbins Top and new seat covers, carpets, etc. We all wish we had that old car back and that one would definitely be in the top 10. That's LIFE....

One of these days they're going to run out of those classic grilles. Then what are they going to do?? 33 Ford had a beautiful grille. Maybe RR can copy that one for awhile. It would definitely be an improvement.
Many years ago, i had a nice 33 Ford 4-dr. body, frame and rare Potter Trunk. i needed a stock grille and hood. They're both different than the 34 and even very hard to find back then. i saw an ad for the 33 parts in a small flyer out Ca. i ended up buying a beautiful grille and hood for 1200 bucks. The seller?? Boyd Coddington. Many years later his television show was so full of employee turmoil with duane in charge, that i wrote Boyd a note thanking him for the parts just to rub it in a little bit....

Good movies are hard to find these days. Turner classics are cool. i've gone to 3 movies in about 25 years and have never rented a movie. If you don't like what's happening in la la land, don't put money in their pockets. Avoid that garbage like the plague....

i taped an old (77?) Who concert on television a few weeks ago and before that an old Led Zeppelin concert. The two best bands ever and in their prime. Jimmy Page did a LONG solo and the drummer matched that. Incredible stuff. i also taped "The Call" concert the other night. i never heard of them before, but that was also a GREAT one hour concert. It was dedicated to the lead singer, who died but the new guy is amazing....

It would be much nicer if he would stay in there. You can't do a whole lot of damage in a closet. he could try on his wifes shoes, but that's about it....
