DETAILS: DRONE AVIATION HOLDI (OTCMKTS:DRNE) has announced that it has been once again called to assist on the US Army WASP system. The company has been awarded an order from BAE systems, which is the prime contractor for the US military, to provide parts to enhance the WASP aerostat system. DRNE is known for specializing in developing lighter than air aerostat systems and tethered drones.

As per the company reports, the enhancements are being made in order to make use of the aerostat systems in the Department of Defense exercises. The upgrades are targeted at expanding the payload capability. This is being done so as to integrate the wireless electronics, optics and communication packages to the system. DRNE’s subsidiary, Drone Aviation Corp, will be working closely with L-3 Communication Systems-West, to make all this possible. The electronics part of the task would be taken care of by a working group from L-3CSW. Once the integration plan is complete and executed, the two companies would jointly market the technology. The project is due to be completed in July 2015.

Once delivered the aerostat systems would be tested in a month long exercises being conducted by the DoD. This would be the second time the aerostat would be a part of a military exercise. The last time the system was tested, it was successfully able to distribute secure live video feeds to the ground. The system is aimed at alerting soldiers about the changing scenario of battle on the ground and act accordingly. The CEO of DRNE, Felicia Hess, stated that as the aerostat system continues to evolve, her company takes pride in helping the military gain a unique and innovative solution, which is in accordance to today’s mission requirements. The military hopes that the system would be able to replace tactical relay antennas, while providing a better service.

  • Over yesterday's session, the share price of Drone Aviation Holding Corp. (OTCMKTS:DRNE, DRNE message board) put on a good 18%. This is the company's biggest percentile green push for the past two months. The move was obviously triggered by DRNE's latest PR and filing that accompanied it.

At the market's open yesterday the company announced the closing of a $1 million stock offering. Dr. Phillip Frost, who led another round of DRNE financing in the summer of 2014, is once again participating in yesterday's deal, through Frost Gamma Investments Trust. This time Dr. Frost's participation comprises a quarter of the $1 million financing.

DRNE sold a total of 4 million Series G convertible preferred shares. The Series G can be converted into common shares at a ratio of 1:1. This sets the share price at $0.25. This seems perfectly reasonable, considering this price is almost equal to DRNE's market price on the day the financing was closed and DRNE traded both above and below this level over the past month.

The company intends to use a part of the funding to speed its WATT electronic tethered drones into commercialization.

The fact that a proven, savvy investor such as Dr. Frost, who is also the CEO of NYSE-traded Opko Health, Inc. (OTCMKTS:OPK), is willing to keep investing in the company's vision obviously served as enough of a green light for other retail investors too. Yesterday DRNE shifted its heaviest volume since early March at 3.5 million shares traded.

In its latest quarterly for the months ended March 2015 DRNE reported just $15 thousand in revenues and net loss of $934 thousand, against annual net loss for 2014 of $2.1 million. DRNE's outstanding common shares have gone up 8% over the course of a month and a half this spring.

    New 10-Q filing?

I NEED TO KNOW THE DATE when the 10-Q was published. Maybe it was already old news and the market discounted it. Appreciate help with this datum.

Anyway for security I sold half my holdings here (DRNE) but I still keep 30k shares. The way i'll play it is if it goes down to 0.27 or less I'll buy back my position to 60k, 70k or more. BUT if DRNE goes above 0.30, then bye bye stock accumulation, another plane 1/2-missed.

Also, I put the money into a biotech stock that made nice advances lately

  • is very slight, I was afraid the stock would lose like 10 points. Happy it didn't happened, yet maybe there is lack of news.

    THIS IS AMAZING NEWS!
News broadcaster CNN announced on 6 May that it will purchase an undisclosed number of the systems as the launch customer for the new UAV, Mark Klefman, director of operations at Drone Aviation, says.
HOW MANY sistems are they purchasing? Ten?, 100? CNN is a GLOBAL company!!

Drone Aviation’s tethered drones, or drones that are physically connected to a ground unit through a line or cable are not “free-flying” and therefore comply fully with all FAA regulations, including avoiding the airspace restrictions that plague free-flying drones.

The Kingfisher™ aerostat is named after the kingfisher bird species, known to be the longest-duration hovering bird with exceptionally keen vision to spot its prey. A fitting name for an aerostat balloon designed to provide a stable platform in winds up to 50mph/75kph* and give you unprecedented options for your payload and surveillance requirements. As part of an DAC surveillance system, the Kingfisher is the only FAA approved, urban-flight qualified, lighter than air system available in North America.

DRNE Tethered Drones are SAFE and LEGAL to operate under current FAA guidelines. DAC Tethered Drones offer unsurpassed flight duration and security due to power and communications both running through the MilSpec tether line.

The May 5 press release went on to say ”Under terms of the award, DAC and Troll will jointly form a working group to integrate the L-3 Wescam MX-10 advanced optical sensor system into the WASP platform for an international customer. The working group plans on commencing integration in May with initial flight testing expected to take place by Q3 2015.

DAC develops and manufactures the WATT Electric Tethered Drone, Blimp in a Box (BiB) and WASP aerostat product lines. The WATT Tethered Drone, as well as the BiB and WASP aerostats, utilize a secure, high strength tether line that remains connected to the ground for safe and reliable operations. DAC’s systems are intended to provide semi-persistent, mobile intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (“ISR”) and extended communications for various applications. Each system can provide low cost, mobile ISR and mobile communications for days, weeks or months. BiB and WASP aerostats are currently in use in a number of U.S. Department

Currently trading at a $13 million market valuation DRNE sits on the cutting edge of a fast new growing industry and has a billionaire as a major investor sitting on the BOD. The stock is up big in recent days after the Company announced it has received an order from specialized defense contractor Troll Systems for a set of Winch Aerostat Small Platform (WASP) aerostat systems; this has got investors excited.

PERSONAL THOUGHTS: DRNE can reach $1 and many times more but it is not instantaneous: First: they need to announce the partnership with CNN. (2) they have to ring in more sales (3) they have to increase manufacturing capabilities and hire more people, perhaps build new facilities. I foresee a full year or two years of share price increases to several dollars per share. IMHO

  • During yesterday’s Unmanned Systems Conference of The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) in Atlanta, Georgia, CNN revealed that it is leveraging Drone Aviation’s tethered drone technology to explore using drones as part of its global newsgathering operations. The initiative is part of CNN's newly announced partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Pathfinder Program, also announced at AUVSI, designed to validate and operationalize the safe integration of commercial drones into the US national airspace.

At a special session, “The Coming Impact of UAS on the News Industry,” CNN’s Director of News Operations Gregory Agvent noted that the global news organization is working with Drone Aviation to explore using its WATT-200 tethered drones to gather real-time news footage from never before seen vantage points and assess the impact that our Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) can have on news operations in populated areas.

David Vigilante, senior vice president of the legal department at CNN, noted it is the company’s hope to integrate drones in its coverage across the country, saying at the news conference, “the FAA opened up a whole new pathway where CNN and other news organizations can operate much more freely.”
