  • It is clear to me management's lowball revenue guidance for 2015 played a big role in disappointing investors. For those who didn't read the conference call transcript, I want to highlight reasons for optimism 2015 will be better than portrayed. Quotes from management:

"Again, we are really cautiously optimistic for 2015. This is the best estimate that we have at this time and we will continue to see how things progress and develop through the course of the year and we'll just make adjustment positive and or negative when necessary, but of course we'll want nothing more than to exceed our forecast again as we did in 2014."

They want nothing more than to exceed their forecast. There is nothing like lowballing guidance to accomplish that.

"...it was a concern that Frozen would be gone this year.

We couldn't be more positive about Frozen, but it's too early in the year like it was for us last year to give a good forward-looking understanding as we did last year early on. We are very positive, we have lot of line extensions in various categories. Disney has a lot behind Frozen worldwide this year. So we're excited about Frozen, but not just about Frozen. We are excited about our Hulk's mask, Max Tow and Nintendo and we're excited about various areas of business and we're just not a Frozen company, but at the same time Frozen is a dream for JAKKS anyone that has license and for Disney, who created it."

Management couldn't be more positive about Frozen and is excited over other new products. Investors need to consider this before selling into a depressed stock price.

Thank you, as usual commandor, for your thought-provoking musings. The MB really owes you for your intellectual contributions. A beer or fine wine, perhaps? Best regards.

    Another nice article by deMasi

The longer I am invested in GLUU, the more impressed I am with Niccolo de Masi. Let's face it - most of us don't really "know" him. After reading this article and listening to earnings conference calls, he strikes me as unusually intelligent and insightful by CEO standards. He is sharp and his relatively short track record is very good. A small, growing company like GLUU is blessed to have him.

Twelve years ago I bought shares of DKS shortly after its IPO. It didn't take long to realize its CEO, Ed Stack, was several cuts above the talking-head CEOs at many companies. Now 475% later, it is clear this growth is owed to his drive and consistent leadership. It's early in the game but my bets are on de Masi.

You got it, jrkkek. This makes Southpaw the second largest shareholder under Franklin. Per the 13-G:

The Reporting Persons may be deemed the beneficial owner of 2,207,863 shares of Common Stock held by the Fund. This amount consists of 2,207,863 shares of Common Stock receivable upon conversion of presently convertible notes.

    (b) The Reporting Persons may be deemed the beneficial owner of 8.7% of the Issuer’s outstanding shares of Common Stock, which percentage was calculated by dividing 2,207,863 (the number of shares of Common Stock held by the Fund) by the sum of (i) 23,264,905 (the number of shares of Common Stock outstanding as of November 10, 2014, as reported in the Issuer’s most recent Form 10-Q filed on November 10, 2014) and (ii) 2,207,863 (the number of shares of Common Stock receivable by upon conversion of presently convertible notes held by the Fund).

sbacchus, it is interesting (or frightening) to note my HIMX holdings are comparable to many globally-known advisors and insurance companies listed at the NASDAQ site. LOL

There is no better way to get flamed on a MB than to agree with oilman but the potential for short squeezes is overblown. Advances in trading techniques and market liquidity over the years have helped shorts exit their positions with nary a trace. Sort of like the old Shadow character of bygone days. Short squeezes still do occur but most often in thinly traded stocks, not one with the volume of GLUU. JMHO

wildone, the CS story relates to a lower estimate for Q1 2015. HIMX pre-announced earnings for Q4 2014. Different quarter.

I'm bumping this post to give fitzy800 credit for good analysis. Persistently supported his position despite critics. Great job fitzy.

Hopeful, what is your opinion of the gap down to $8.61? Those gaps have a way of closing despite the good tone of the CC. Best regards.

Merrill Lynch prediction eps $1 for 2015

    by wc.farwell Jan 28, 2015 12:24 PM
mawchek mawchek Jan 28, 2015 2:01 PM Flag

The analyst estimate is $.748 for 2015 and $1.062 for 2016. These numbers are taken from the actual analyst note. The $1 estimate you state was a misquote reported by The Street.

  • mawchek mawchek Jan 25, 2015 9:21 PM Flag

Yahoo shows analyst estimates for 2015 as a high of .55 and a low of .43 with a $.49 average for 11 analysts. Merrill's estimate for 2015 as noted above is .75, over 50% higher than the consensus. Me thinks the consensus EPS will be moving up.

cherryanf, I'm glad to see your good report on COH's new spring line. I'm no fashionista but believe it has potential to draw traffic. I have been building a new position in the belief COH has bottomed. The yield supports my patience.

Did you formerly post on the HOTT board years back? What ever became of brombonz? He was quite the retail investor in the day. Regards.

    What is the big picture?

All perfectly clear, logical and seemingly inevitable, commandor. I cannot, however, envision politicians ceasing their pandering to voting interests. They spend to buy votes and I am pessimistic this will end in our lifetimes. It's human nature at its worst.

You should credit the author at Seeking Alpha when you excerpt exact passages from their reports. A simple Google search proves your cut and paste job. To do otherwise is plagiarism, palawanislands. This is not the first time I've observed you doing this.
