I notice that while recent good reports from other airlines, and emphasis on low oil costs fueling earnings, Spirit seems lost in the conversations. My impression is there is quiet accumulation occurring as we approach earnings - don't want to push price action by speaking too glowingly, too soon. I'm talking about the team on Fast Money - they are all over CNBC all thought the day, and then on the post-market show at 5. These guys often speak out both sides of their mouths, but I also believe that have significant influence on price action, and that they work with big money "associates" when commenting on any particular stock. Call me paranoid, but I listen to daily podcasts of their ramble and catch them on CNBC throughout the day on my sat-rad, or streaming....
Don't want to blatantly accuse them of manipulations, but they have "influence" and they know it.
Just one aspect of my opinion... a lot to read, but there are other elements to consider....Do your own due diligence, and whatever you do - don't depend on the opinions and comments you read on these message boards! We all have our biases!

  • Don't be suckered into letting go of your shares...they are just pushing price down into earnings, then volume will spike as they grab as much as they can as quickly as possible before reporting...Then price will soar back over 100 ...same story, different day, different stock.
Fundamentals are still in place and their technology is more relevant by the minute...

Who the frig is "Second Opinion" and where did you read that BS?!
Spirit is going to soar through earnings and continued low oil prices will sustain profitability throughout the remainder of 2015.... The way these stocks are manipulated is a crying shame! This company has nothing but sound fundamentals and yet the share price has been pushed down by these market makers and to who's benefit? I am still holding, and have no fear we are going to test 82-83 right out of earnings. They make money hand over fist! I told you before at 74.50, I will tell you again - we will easily run to 80.
if you listened to me then, you would have a nice 2.50 profit (at this point!)....back up the truck - there is still room to run!

Here is why NXPI is a long term buy

You hit on some excellent points! I think the Automobile industry has far greater potential - $200 per car is a fair number, but I think north of there isn't unreasonable. Just bought a 2015 Fusion with all the options...sweet! Walk up to it and NXPI's NFC allows the doors to instantly open. Push button start, driver assist, adaptive cruise control...all thanks to NXPI.
And I agree totally on the IoT angle...huge potential for NXPI applications.
Just the beginning .... super company in a technological area that is in its infancy.

A little optimistic, but over a $100 is not far from reality...Holiday travel season is just approaching and don't forget business travel has also been on the upswing due to low fuel / ticket costs...and Spirit makes a ton on those business fliers who buy upgrades! To quote Credit Suisse analyst from a March 31st industry meeting:
"Following investor meetings with Spirit Airlines' management earlier this week,
we are incrementally more confident in the improving multiyear unit cost
trajectory. We also found comfort in the characterization of demand as "strong" "
    ...Thus my STRONG BUY...
    What say you?

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • The earnings scheduled for April 29th, and I feel confident they are going to be great. No worries about the global travel scene - Spirit flies domestically. Fuel costs for the reporting period have been the lowest in years! And that's the biggest input cost!!! Low production cost, greater margins...simple. Revenue passenger miles increased 24.6 % - translates to greater aggregate profit potential! Revenue estimates were in the area of 5%!!
Folks, back up the truck...I see 80-85 in next 3 weeks. What say you?
    Good Luck...

The whole semi sector was punished - as was the market. These things happen - recognize opportunities ... the market is taking a breather before the next earnings round in April. Dips below moving avgs on days like today are just noise.... and opportunity.

Boy you called that one "spot-on"! Anymore wise tips?

  • Net Profit Margin THE highest in the industry (11.67), next is Alaska(11.27), then JetBlue (6.89)
Long-Term Debt to Equity THE lowest in the industry (13.54%), next Virgin (20.96), then (32.25). Note AAL is 814%!
PEG less than 1 (.76) - another positive.
I could go on...but, no need...we are going to see this thing rock to the mid 80's ...just need to take a breather and hang in there.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • Credit Suisse has a $100 price target as of 2/13/15 - and rates OUTPERFORM
S&P has a $100 price target as of 2/28/15 - and rates STRONG BUY
Reuters rates them as an OUTPERFORM
IBD Rates it # 2 in the industry with 2nd strongest IBD rating on fundamentals...
Weaker oil WILL continue, and Airlines will prosper, and Spirit is positioned comfortably for a nice rebound once the dust settle by this on Stiffel downgrade to HOLD.
Stay calm, and add on the dips.

    Heavy Volume

As I said in an earlier post, the reaction to earnings was just way overblown. This company is a force to be reckoned with and they ARE MAKING MONEY. We need not fear these temporary dips but embrace them as gifts from the market Gods who are pushing around the weak, and ignorant shareholders - scaring them out of their shares! Even with price targets lowered, the range is bottoms at 38 and goes as high as 46, with the majority over $40 per share. So anywhere below 35 was the gift, but it is retractable and won't be on the table for long since we will soon be range-bound between 38 and 40 until the next catalyst shows on the horizon.
    GLTA....

    Sentiment: Buy

  • Let not forget they are making money. As much as we don't want to hear about the currency issues - it is a reality. They have about 60 percent overseas and the strong dollar will prevail for at least another 6 months (?)...
However, they are making money and the analyst who are lowering price targets are still keeping HP comfortably in the low to mid 40's.
So, hang in there - don't let them steal you share away. We will see a brighter day soon as the weak hands have been wrung.

besides, it'll give me some time to analyze this situation more carefully...Like I said, I don't usually scare so easily, but the chart was screaming and I wasn't listening...just glad I didn't sell pre-market when it was down to around 47 and change on the bid! ouch!

yeah, gonna kill me, but I need the loss to stick

  • mc_slick mc_slick Feb 18, 2015 6:14 AM Flag

Good theory - one that I'm starting to believe. I don't usually scare this easily, but the action was just too quick last week. My cost basis was too high - I had to protect my a$$. Out for now...back in 30 ...days that is!

  • mc_slick mc_slick Feb 18, 2015 6:11 AM Flag

Thank you sir for taking the time shed light on the TASER connection. However, its all still conjecture until we hear it from the horses mouth - but hopeful, nonetheless.
As for me, I'm out for the moment - sold at 52 yesterday....I was simply spooked by the action leading into the drop, and then the cliff dive Friday got wondering "what went on at the 2015 Stifel Technology, Internet & Media Conference" this past week?
I love the spring back, but I have to sit this one out for now....I need 30 days to count the 3k loss so.....
I'm still a strong believer in AMBA, and may regret having to sit on the sidelines through earnings, but wtf.... They'll be other trains coming and I have my 52,000 tickets to ride!
