  • Again, thank you for your evaluation, Raleigh... this was truly a great day for all longs, both, long-term investors and traders, as we now know why the call contracts were selling like hotcakes for Oct 24 108, 109, and 110's yesterday... whoever bought those took home a nice chunk of change to play with over the weekend... hmmm, dare I say "inside information" about the Harvoni Rx's??? As fishart and I were chatting earlier, it seems like the regulators are on the ball about this, right?? LOL!! Well, for all of us friendly longs, who have hung in here through the roller coaster days since Oct 9, we deserve a nice few days off from the Market... when this thing hit $91 pps, things looked a bit gloomy, some took a little hit with the Oct 18 opex, but the rebound has been PHENOMENOL since a few days ago... enjoy the weekend, and we'll pick this puppy up on Monday...

... so in light of the Harvoni Rx's, aka, how much is the Sovaldi revenue in the Q3 ER going to affect the pps movement next week... personally, I think the Sovaldi numbers will be somewhat anti-climactic at this point... your thoughts, and thanks again in advance... good luck!!

Thanks, aka... as I was chatting with my patient, I kept thinking back as to how tired and depressed he was when I had his labs checked way back when the CDCP recommended all Baby Boomers get hepatitis panels run... obviously, he was not happy about the situation, but now, he's very, very energetic, leading his HCV support group, and is a proponent of GILD, despite his past hippie value leanings (ie, Big Pharma is the enemy, etc...)... in the near and distant future, my biggest concern is and always will be the insurance carriers... as I've been pounding the table, carriers are NOT looking out for patients' best interest; they're there to minimize their cost outlay... so in my patient's case, he got the Sovaldi authorized (with some delay from HealthNet), but was NOT allowed to get Olysio, and was subsequently given ribavirin, causing a bad respiratory problem... going forward, I hope the carriers will recognize that cheaper (ie, ABBV's regimen) will not outweigh better and less toxic outcomes... great day so far!! Good luck as usual to you, my friend...

Hey Sr, without getting too personal, is your insurance carrier a PPO or HMO?? And how much authorization and paperwork did the hepatologist have to go through??? Thanks in advance, and good luck!!

Hey Raleigh, hope you're well... as a starting point in ubderstanding ABBV, here was the article about ACHN which has a pretty good summary of the HCV treatment regimens, as well as who's behind which plan... this includes ABBV's... happy reading!!!

  • ... at the end of the day with my first HCV patient treated with Sovaldi... first of all, he is so thankful to be finally cured of the disease, and his final lab check will be in Dec, when he will be officially declared as "cured"... however, what tripped up his treatment had been RIBOVIRIN, which has caused a chronic cough and burning sensation in his lungs, which began 3 weeks after the start of treatment... he endured that side effect, but was rather debilitating, considering he's a music professor... he was not the only person, who experienced this, as this was a major complaint in his HCV support group... I asked him why Olysio was not given by the hepatologist, and the reasoning was because HealthNet, his insurance company, would not pay for it due to the pricing... thus, these patients were Sovaldi-approved BUT NOT Olysio-approved... SO, three points I took away from this discussion we had: 1) patients had NO side effects with Sovaldi and are greatful for the drug and the cure; 2) insurance companies would approve Sovaldi BUT may not approve Olysio to be the adjunct medication due to cost; and 3) ABBV's regimen will be very problematic with it's side effects, esp with ribovirin, as patients universally hate it's use... so, in circling back on this discussion, the good news is: 1) GILD has a superior HCV treatment regimen with Harvoni than ABBV (duh, kind of stating the obvious, I know...) and 2) Sovaldi was getting relatively easy approval with people with moderate to severe liver disease... the BAD news is: 1) insurance companies are trying to cut corners and approve ribovirin over a costlier med, like Olysio, as an adjunct therapy, and 2) I can see certain large health providers, such as Kaiser, prescribe ONLY the ABBV regimen and doom their patients to 12-16 weeks of horrible side effects... anyways, just thought I'd share my patient's experiences and my thoughts today!! Have a great evening!!!

Wow, great movement today, Raleigh... just finished seeing a bunch of sickies this morning/early afternoon, and noted the price action... I guess my Nov 22 calls are still worth something after all!! My best to you and all our friends on the Yahoo MB!! BTW, am seeing one of my HCV patients, who finished his Sovaldi/oysio treatments two weeks ago, this afternoon... I'll let you know what he says... got his PCR viral load today, and it was ZERO... chat later, my friend!!!

Well said, Raleigh... and thank you so much for your flattering compliments, which are a bit over-exaggerated about me, LOL!! We, as a MB community enjoy the free exchange of ideas, and it'd be a real shame that someone who's truly insightful and polite would feel compelled to leave the community because of some rather harsh individuals... I do truly respect ALL opinions, as long as there is something to back up your thoughts, either from prior posts or with a current post, for we can learn from both, the bull and bear opinions... again, as I stated before, we're all hear to make and profit from investing in GILD, either on the long side or the short side... I, again, echo Raleigh's request for you to remain in our community... perhaps think about this a few days and try to enjoy a nice, peaceful weekend... (BTW, Raleigh, I don't think you meant to put a Strong Sell opinion on your sentiment, LOL!!)

What's been the overall response by the patients?? Two of mine are in the last few weeks of treatment, and they're very satisfied, except for some burning sensations in their hands and feet, most likely from the Olysio... but they;re gutting it out for the duration...
