I actually knew a Turkish stone mason named Imet.

Imetelestat + Janssen + FDA = Happy New Year!

  • meliorist_man meliorist_man Dec 26, 2014 12:07 PM Flag

Possible explanations for the putrid price appreciation. Take your pick.
    1. One trick pony syndrome. If Imetelstat falls flat, we lose all.
    2. Long history of investors getting burned when they invest in Geron.
    3. Wall street antics: hedges, shorts, manipulation, collusion, lack of analyst coverage.
    4. Dead money theory. It'll be a while before we see revenues.
    5. The billion dollars is not a billion dollars, it's an IOU.
This is just for grins. Maybe it'll cheer you up. I am very LONG Geron, and have never felt better about the company.
Best of luck if you're new to Geron. Some of us are more battle hardened.

    GSK ebola vaccine not impressive

Remember when the stock went to seven dollars on a positive H1N1 result?
No RSV program to speak of, no seasonal flu direction, no money from BARDA, no neurominidase validation, no hundreds of millions of dollars in cash, no Matrix, no Stan Erck, no state of the art facility, no JP/Chae support, no Citi support, no upgrades from multiple analysts?
We should now sit back and relish in the opportunity that nature has provided us. We may very well have the only effective vaccine for Ebola. Praise the Lord. And the competition, God love 'em, has what now?

Why does Wall Street hate this stock so much?

    by whiteshell1000 Dec 22, 2014 10:01 AM

They don't hate it at all. In fact they kinda like it. Just think how much money they have made! They are professionals plying their trade. In my opinion, this "keep it quiet" strategy will come to an end, but only when JNJ says so, via solid PR's portraying FDA support. There are those who could step in and crush the shorts right now, but you are naive if you think that there is no collusion on "Wall Street" (whatever that is.) If the shorts are allowed to exit gracefully, it may just be favor granted, one that results in no actual long term downside to the eventual SUPER LONGS. When we get closer to drug approval, things will change for the better. But right now, get the wad out of your panties and allot your resources according to some disciplined plan to make money with a long position on this stock. You are a member of the audience who may find a gift under your seat. You are really not a participant.

    Triple witching

There may have been technical reasons over the last thirty years that an effective vaccine was never produced. Now VLP technology and Novavax will correct the problem.
    I think you're right.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I had to leave for a while. I understand your concern about orders. I have traded in and out of FCEL for 8 years, always keeping a core position because I believe in the technology.
Last spring, when "the street" took an $0.88 stock to $4+, just based on irrational exhuberance over PLUG, I sold out.
I believe we are approaching a bottom in PPS, and that management is making all the right moves (POSCO, Europe, larger plants, higher efficiencies), but my last remaining concern is the cost of expansion. You say they already have enough funds. That's where I disagree.
Capital requirements for such a corporation, with negative EBITDA, and the possiblility of restricted cash scenarios, may turn out to be greater than you think. $100 milllion dollars in cash? whoop de do!
I hope you are right for the sake of all the well-meaning alternative energy retail investors who would like to think they can make money and do the right thing for the environment at the same time. But I'm not so sure we will not see some kind of dilutive capital raise before the new orders come in.
I want back in, but I'm still not convinced that this is the price.
    JMO, meliorist

I'm relaxin' here, and I appreciate your perspective, so much so that I wanted to "bump" the topic.
Janssen Biotech, Inc., a divsion of JNJ is much more capable of navigating the bureacratic cluster frack we know as the FDA than Geron ever was or would have been. (Boy, there's an understatement.)
Janssen will work with the FDA to design protocols and select endpoints that will enable Imetelestat to come to market, if successful, in the shortest possible time frame for the largest patient populaltion.
Those of us here on this message board cannot even begin to SPECULATE (Hi, Maine!) about the details of unment medical needs, breakthrough drugs, orphan drugs, or fast track designation.
We have to leave that to the professionals.
Thank God the professionals are now the folks at Janssen Biotech, Inc, and not that rag tag bunch of well meaning people from California, otherwise know as Geron.
    Have a Merry Christmas!

    definitely in our favor!

  • The shares are not for sale at these prices. $3 is a joke. At least everyone knows where they stand. Nervous nellies have left the building. We the faithful retail, we are spectators, nervously watching a grueling boxing match. Tired of the rope a dope, but wanting to get the most out of the price of admission, we wait for the inevitable flurry of punches from the champion that will determine the victor.
It's only a matter of time.
Some would have you believe that the fight is not fixed, and that the outcome is not certain.
Oh, there will be pain, but it will be lessened to the greatest extent possible, because the fixers of the fight are buddies.

    Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
    Young people speakin' their minds
A gettin' so much resistance from behind
    . . . . .
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound?
    Everybody look what's going down

    Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line, the man come and take you away"

Geron climbed a steep cliff with great news for those who suffered, only to be kicked in the teeth and pushed back into the abyss. They found a giant to help them climb back up, but are still thwarted by a moronic horde, motivated by nothing other than their arrogance and blood lust.

wes, It's not just the validation that has come from the JNJ partnership.
When have you ever seen so much EFFICACY DATA going INTO Phase II? It's unbelievable.
I like the way you're thinking. I have A LOT of shares, I ain't sellin". And ya know, I think there are a lot of Geronites out there who share your (our) attitude.
