...of us expect to be good earnings. I just worry that this management will be too conservative in guidance when I want them to be very bullish. I don't want them to exaggerate but I don't think they would have to say things are looking good. Still, and again, way too many shares out make NOK way to easy to manipulate. At any rate I bought into this drop which is the most I ever paid for NOK.
I doubt they get 14 cents (a 50% beat) and if so think they should have warned by now by Finnish law. If they do get .14 then a $1 plus move up would be warranted.
I think the prolonged very poor performance of NOK stock speaks for itself. Unless your shares are overvalued then BB's are a VERY GOOD use of company money, especially in a case like NOK where there are way too many shares out and it is viewed as and easy target for HFC and shorts to play with as it's management is clueless. Certainly giving all that tax money to Finn gov. was not good for shareholders.
I think the market has lost faith in timid NOK management. Even they, with a ton of cash and way too many shares outstanding,.will not buy back NOK shares. And the few they do buy, they just give them to NOK management, which has done nothing to earn them. NOK would be over $10 by now with half way decent management.
Really, I posted when it got recently to $21 that it just went too far up too fast and was due for a correction (I figured to $16) and the PBR fan boys attacked me. Now I would love to see $12 or below.
...ownership by a lot more potential buyers. But the special dividend amounted to a big tax giveaway to the Finnish gov. Did you like paying 30%? It sure did not help the share price much, did it? Too many shares out!
mrkruncher- I am both a short term and long term investor. The buy back would reduce the # of shares out by the number bought back as there is NO requirement or need to give free shares to execs., especially here where they have done nothing to earn them. NOK management was handed a silver platter and they have dropped it, (they blew it and NOK should be easily over $10 by now instead of down from last Dec.). Despite the cash they got, and great deal with NSN, etc. NOK is down from last Dec. They have had a number of upgrades with high targets from A-one firms, yet they are "pinned" at $7/8. The problem with NOK is WAY TOO MANY shares out and a feckless, timid management that rewards itself and the Finnish gov. before getting share price up. Any buy back in the $7's or even $8's should prove to at the low. They should have spent serious money (which they have/had and only earns low rates now) on a dutch auction. They make Elop look good.
A reverse split worked great with Priceline and many others and would have been ideal for NOK when it was at $3. So many on this board do not really understand them. One is not necessary now but would not hurt as way too many shares out. A large share buyback however would have helped and should have been much bigger and the special div. was a tax giveaway. How can anyone be happy that NOK is now below where it was almost a year ago (over $8 last Dec.) with the all the cash they have, improving mix of products and earnings, royalties, etc.?? NOK 's share performance has been a HUGE disappointment and those who think NOK has not been manipulated, and that that is helped by so many shares outstanding, are just ignorant of the stock market and equivalent to those who claimed the Mafia did not exist in the 1950's (Hoover).
They should have already used about $6B to get the share count down below 3 bil. And a r/s of 3 shares for 1 to get share count then below one bil. would not have hurt. If they had done that (and also maybe only done the reg. dividend and not the special div. tax giveaway to Finn gov.) I think NOK would be trading at the equiv. of over $10 a share now (or $30/ factoring in the 3 for 1 split). This feckless NOK management is not concerned about share price and just sits back and watches NOK shares get manipulated by hedgies, etc.
And GOL just sucks!
...and manipulators have their way with the stock price. They would never pre-announce good earnings before options expiration and really put it to the shorts. Instead they let the shorts put it to their shareholders. NOK is a reflection of Finland, which has smart, honest, competent and decent people, but too afraid to toot their own horn and too used and accepting of being pushed around by Russia, Sweden etc. You can even see that in hockey where Sweden usually (not always) beats Finland despite being out played and out worked. Yes I am mad that my Oct calls will go out much below where they should have (based on fundamentals of NOK) but don't cry for me Argentina as I still have tons of Jan and also 2016 leaps that will be much higher soon. Venting here.
...just about every board? Every stock could soon quadruple I guess. YHOO message boards really suck but what else is there.
...higher after that.
...oil drop. Ebola, ISIS etc. are way overdone and we now just have panic and forced selling. I just bought some ONNN Semi at a 52 week low despite great fundamentals, earnings, balance sheet, etc.. This will pass soon
No, India does not even come close to having NOK "over a barrel". Minor issue that is not worth even ten cents a share to NOK either way.
....GOL can not get out of its own way.
