Congrats to MRO on the new 10 year low this morning!

Great time to sell Jan puts! Between the oil export ban in the process of being lifted, tax lost selling ending in less than two weeks, and then getting to into a new year, IMO, MRO will find a bottom sooner rather than later.

SKX is highly rated at Gunderson Capital (San Diego). Bill Gunderson has it rated A both for value and stock grade (recent performance). Five year target: 61 (+108%). Disclosure: Long SKX and short SKX Jan 26.67P.

Great long term holding. A workable plan is to start with a significant position and dollar cost average for (say) five years. Small to moderate pullbacks would let you (me) buy more shares at a better price and the expected 17-22% yearly EPS gains (for next 5 years) should give a very nice return. ORLY should do well as long as there are more complex cars, SUVs, and trucks. They all need service and ORLY is a (or at least one of the) leaders.

  • ORLY is hitting on all cylinders. Q3 same store sales came in at an eye popping +7.9%. And, this is after +7.2% in both Q1 and Q2. Earnings? Earnings came in at 2.36, +28% Y-O-Y, clearly blowing out estimates. Granted, Q4 estimates came down a touch; however, ORLY likes to low ball estimates and IMO they should clearly beat the 2.00 projection. Everyone should like the continuing share buyback and that the share count is now down to 101 million. Share price was up over $9 in after hours trading. With futures weak pre-market, it will be interesting to see how ORLY opens, then trades throughout the day, and price action for the next 3-5 days. Based on the after maket price, ORLY is a solid BUY. Any pull back to yesterday's levels (259-262) should be seen as a strong buy area. Disclosure: Long ORLY, AAP, and AZO.

Dividend announcement is due tomorrow. The expected is an increase from .49 to .50 for Q3.(1.96 to 2.00 annually). Wonder what the reaction will be if KMI goes instead to .51. This is possible since the budget calls for 2.00 in 2015 and we only have .97 through Q2. That leaves 1.03 remaining for Q3 and Q4 to hit the budget number. So, it looks like the final two quarters of the year could be .50 and .53 or .51 and .52. KMI hasn't been using fractions, but I guess .505 and .525 is also possible. The announcement and CC could be interesting. Also, note that 12-month Yahoo forecast is still 41+. If we get more than a one cent increase and earnings/forecasts are reasonable, KMI could move up.

Buying today below 12.50 (with an implied forward yield of 7%) seems like a no brainer. Seems like Mr. Market agreed...at least for one day. I look for the for the distribution to grow to 1.20-1.50 in 3-5 years. That would give a yield in the 10% +/- range. Reminds me of buying high yield F bonds in 2008. Sold them after a few months for a nice profit. Learned a lesson. If you can buy a high yielder and the story does not go negative, hold for the longer term.

Answer: Just don't put MLPs that give K-is in IRAs. There are lots of other choices like MLP GPs (and others that have MLPs) that give 1099s (KMI, OKE, TRGP, OKE, PAGP, TEGP, HFC, etc.).

keep the core position of 3500 shares and traded out of the 500 purchased in July. Recently went added 2500 shares in the 17s. May keep these long term, made add more shares for trading or long term, or may trade the 2500. Dividend announcement due this week. I do like PAGP's prospects for 2017+.

Good chance that the final ETE offer (which I feel will be accepted) will be in the range of 1.8 ETE shares and $7-8 cash. This is roughly the same ETE component plus the significant cash. When ETE stock price recovers, the deal should look very good for WMB shareholders. The announcement could come as early as Monday before the market opens or as late as the following Monday. If there is no announcement by a week from Monday, then there is a real possibility of either no deal or ETE will go hostile.

A decision could be made over the weekend. My guess is that we will have an announcement either this coming Monday or the next Monday before the open. Rumor is the same exchange rate or slightly hight PLUS up to $15 cash per share. This would be a good deal for WMB holders because ETE stock should recover faster than (stand alone WMB could).

Good comments. I sold out in the high 50s and just bought back in with a starter position today. May continue to buy if/when the price drops every 10% or so. Solid dividend and no expected tax to the company through 2016 are positives.

Good question. Dividend announcement is VERY late. Should have already been announced with and ex-dividend date not later than next week. WMB has paid a dividend every quarter since 1974. The delay might be tied to a larger announcement. Otherwise, it make no sense to delay the divided announcement. Guess we just need to hold on an see what gives. With no clarity, I have to be neutral on the company. Disclaimer: Long WMB.

The long term track record of SXL speaks for its self. Looking at the 5, 10, and 13 year track record dating back to the end of August 2002, SXL is +238%, +806%, and +1762% on a total return basis. Growth plus dividend/distribution increases can really compound an investment. Looking at the period Aug 2002 -Aug 2005: +105%. For Aug 2005 -Aug 2010: +167%. And, for the period Aug 2010 thru Aug 28, 2015: +238%. I see nothing that makes me think we should not have an excellent returns over the next five years. With SXL trading ~35% below the 12-month high of 52.47, the current yield ~5.1%, and ~20% distribution growth in the forecast, SXL is (IMO) a STRONG BUY under 35 and a buy for 35-40.

Made a little bit on SXL twice earlier in the year. Last sale was in the 37s. Bought back in for 1400 units today. With a 5,25% yield (based on my purchase price), I am looking at holding these shares longer term.

I agree. Just picked up 40 MRO Jan 17 15 calls. Recall, the 12-month high was north of 40. Looking for a stock price back to the mid-20 area sometime next year. If that happens, gain is in the 250% range. Even if it only moves a smidgen, the Jan 18-19 call options should be very attractive. I've played this game before; the time to buy COP and MRO LEAPS is when the stock price crashes. Even a 40% recovery, the 12-15 month recovery can be outstanding...with LEAPS.
