Apple Inc.’s IPhone sales in China may have exceeded the U.S. for the first time in the latest quarter, thanks to brisk demand during the country’s New Year celebrations.
Apple will probably show on Monday that earnings jumped by more than 20 percent when it reports results for the second fiscal quarter, which ended in March. While Apple doesn’t break out shipments by country, the company may have sold 18 million to 20 million iPhones in greater China during the period, while U.S. deliveries were about 14 million to 15 million, according to Creative Strategies LLC.
On track to have 1 million 4G-LTE base stations operational.
China Mobile alone has now deployed 720,000 LTE base stations and is nowhere near finished
Target to have 250-300 million 4G customers in 2015

STMicroelectronics gyroscope and accelerometer
At the top left corner of the S1 module we were expecting to see a motion sensor from InvenSense, but, surprise surprise, we have a brand new STMicroelectronics 3 mm x 3 mm land grid array (LGA) package featuring a 3D digital gyroscope and accelerometer. The package marks feature the letter C followed by a three digit numeric 4,5,1. Great job on STMicroelectronics for this socket win.
Analog Devices touch screen controller
Another surprise to us in the Watch is the socket scored by Analog devices for capacitive touch screen controller on which we observed package markings of AD7166. The ADI site does not list the AD7166 as a standard part number, however we did come across a link to a Product Change Notification (PCN) showing import and export documentation (on the analog devices website) for an “AD7166-202A Cortex M3 Based Cap” and dated April 2015. The link no longer functions so it was probably recently taken down. Too bad.
Texas Instruments OPA2376
Another clearly visible device is the Texas Instruments OPA2376 Precision, low noise, low quiescent current Opp Amp:
More to come next week!
The S1 appears to be a printed circuit board with a thin metal cover. As we wish to not damage anything inside this module, we are going to hand off the S1 to our artisans in the lab and see what they can do with it. This may be all you hear from us today, but stay tuned! Thanks for following along.
IFIXIT has started the teardown today in Australia.
Main focus so far was on construction not on identifying who's chips are inside the watch.

On April 22, 2015, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office published Apple's latest registered trademark for "Live Listen" which was issued to Apple officially yesterday. Apple filed for this trademark back in August 2013. Based on a new Bluetooth technology designed by Apple, these advanced hearing aids provide outstanding sound quality and offer many helpful features. According to Apple, "With Live Listen, your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch becomes a remote microphone that sends sound to your Made for iPhone hearing aid. Live Listen can help you hear a conversation in a noisy room or hear someone speaking across the room."
Qualcomm was forced to downgrade its revenue outlook by $1bn for the year after missing out on a spot in Samsung’s latest Galaxy smartphones and because of the strength of Apple’s iPhone sales, the mobile chipmaker said on Wednesday.

GZ...QCOM guidance is low due to loss of content in Samsung Galaxy S6
Despite higher content in the iPhone S6 than in earlier models, Qualcomm still loses out if the mix shift is towards Samsung Galaxy's.
High demand for premium phones may also displace mid-tier devices where Qualcomm has the largest exposure.
Enter the Exynos powered Galaxy S6 with Qualcomm limited to a small part, and assume consumers buy the devices in equal numbers, and Qualcomm revenues drop to $3,150 per 100 phones, a 29% hit.

On April 16, 2015, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple titled "Speech Recognition Wake-Up of a Handheld Portable Device." I think that most iPhone users would appreciate a simpler way of waking up their iPhone from sleep and bypass having to use Touch ID or constantly entering a manual password to unlock their iPhone all day. Although Touch ID is pretty fast, Apple is thinking of an alternative method of unlocking your iPhone that may be faster and hands free.
Waking your iPhone with a Verbal "Wake Up" Command
Today, to unlock your phone you hit the Home Button and then Slide to Unlock and then enter your password or use Touch ID to login. You have to do this each time that you want to check something out on your iPhone because the phone is in sleep mode.
Although Apple's latest patent doesn't do a very good job at communicating the purpose of this invention in a real-world scenario, it's clear by what the invention actually does that tells you Apple may want to simply the wake up process after you've initially entered your code or used Touch ID for the day. Meaning the second time in the day when you grab your phone you may just speak a command like "Wake Up" and with the system recognizing your voice will unlock your device without having to perform multiple steps to revive your iPhone's functionality.
According to Apple, when the primary processor transitions to its power-saving mode or state, and the auxiliary processor at the same time remains activated, the auxiliary processor may detect a command spoken by the user which then causes the primary processor to transition to an activated or awake state. For example, the auxiliary processor may detect the spoken command being the phrase "wake up" in the speech of the user and, in response, signal the primary processor to transition to the activated state. At that point, the device itself can transition from sleep mode to wake mode, thereby enabling more comp

All signs are pointing to a very rosy forecast for Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones. The latest estimate comes from a Taiwan-based research firm, which expects Samsung to ship a total of 55 million units of its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in 2015.
the Galaxy S5, which "only" shipped an estimated 10 million units in the first 25 days following its launch last April. That was an improvement over the 27 days it took the Galaxy S4 to reach the same milestone, which itself nearly halved the 50 days required to hit 10 million for the Galaxy S3. Nonetheless, overall sales for the Galaxy S5 were a relative disappointment, and lower average selling prices dragged down the Korean giant's profits.
