But Apple TV seems poised to live up to its potential. Just as the first iPhone was billed as a phone, an iPod, and an Internet communications device in one package, the new Apple TV will be a cable box, a movie-streamer, a game console, and a smart-home hub rolled into one.

And like the iPhone, which also had a profound impact on the camera, camcorder, MP3 player, handheld gaming, and in-car GPS markets, a revamped Apple TV could have a wide blast range. Any company that makes set-top-boxes, game consoles, smart hubs, provides cable service, or offers their own music or video streaming services is reaching for the Maalox. That kind of competition should end up driving more innovation in the set-top-box market—and create more value for consumers along the way.

  • Apple is about to extend its presence in the living room – or at least this is what the most recent job posting by the company suggests. According to the job listing posted on Apple’s website , the Cupertino company is looking for an experienced engineering manager to “lead a team of engineers working on exciting new features and functionality” for the next generation Apple TV. The job refers to the Apple TV as a high-priority project.

Skyworks and Avago will continue benefiting from China’s 4G ramp, even with overall smartphone growth slowing down due to their higher ASP. We believe they should see above normal seasonal trends in Q2.

As the quality of the Apple ecosystem (iPhone, iPad, Mac, iTunes, App Store) continues with new additions (Apple Watch, Apple Pay, Home, Health, Continuity, iCloud) to pull away from a relatively flawed and fragmented Android ecosystem, market share gains will continue.

Extracted from Carl Icahn's letter .. To Apple shareholders:

In the following years, FY 2016 and FY 2017, we expect iPhone volume growth of 7% and 10% respectively and flat average selling prices as Apple experiences no pricing pressure and continues to take market share.

GZ.... I would expect that in Sept when the iPhone 6S, 6Plus and the plastic 6C models launch that the 6C has the current Cirrus chips that are in the iPhone 6 model as well as the A8 processor and Aple Pay / fingerprint features , etc.
The Cirrus 55nm audio chip in the 6S and 6 Plus models only..is what I expect.

The current iPhone 5S I expect will be zero dollars down on contract with all existing chips ..no change other than zero down on contract.

Looking... Estimates are already starting at 20 million iPhone 6C in the first 12 months ...
4 inch plastic model with fingerprint and Apple Pay NFC
Apple would target this model at the midrange smartphone market...
Think BMW 3,5,7 series different sizes for customers to choose which one fits their needs ...
Not cheap, not the low end of the smartphone market.

  • Don't forget the iPhone
But it doesn't just end there, Gartner's report gives great news for Apple's core business, its iPhone line, by forecasting iPhones will continue to steal market share away from Google's Android operating system. Per the report, "Android vendors at the high end are finding it hard to differentiate and add value beyond the technology and features," said research director Roberta Cozza. In addition, Cozza pointed toward Apple's ecosystem and new larger form factor as reasons for Apple's continued market share growth.

And that's important: Apple will need to steal market share away from Android vendors if Gartner's estimates for smartphone growth through 2017 is correct. After a year-over-year gain in total smartphone shipments of 3.5% this year, Gartner estimates for worldwide smartphone shipments to increase 3.8% in 2016 before dropping to 1.9% in 2017. For Apple to continue its amazing iPhone growth, the company will have to steal market share from Android.

Overall, Gartner's report is good news for Apple fans as the research firm points toward a strengthening market in its Mac line and continued market share gains in its core smartphone market.

Then there's Cirrus Logic (CRUS) a total survivor in the cellphone base, with best-in-class audio technology. The company's been able to stay independent simply because it has been able to stay ahead of the competition, hence its 43% move this year.

Now, given the runs in these stocks, one could say you have simply missed the move. I would come back and say, how can you possibly think that negatively, given the early innings of connectivity and the Internet of Things , the rubric behind all of these companies? These companies are going to be the Intels of this era. They are leaving others in the dust with their combinations and their ever-expanding reach into wearables and the connected car and the home. Get used to these companies; they will be the household names of the next five years, leaving the legacy parts companies behind, along with the personal computer that is gradually going away as the major method of computing in this country and the world.

today the news is flooding in from supply chain insiders that Apple reportedly has plans to release a new 4-inch iPhone model, tentatively referred to as iPhone 6C, to replace its predecessor the iPhone 5C in the second half of 2015, targeting the entry-level to mid-range smartphone segment.

The planned release will be the second time Apple tries to build a strong presence in the entry-level to mid-range segment following its previous attempt using the iPhone 5C. But the vendor is advised to avoid the pitfalls it encountered with the 5C regarding product design, pricing and timing, commented the sources.

The planned release of a new entry-level 6C is more spectacular news as sales of the iPhone 5C were much lower than expected. The adoption of a plastic case for the 5C, which made the iPhone look cheaper than its family products, contributed to lower-than-expected sales of the model, commented the sources.

But in order to tap the entry-level to mid-range segment in emerging markets, Apple is likely to continue to use plastic cases for the 6C in order to bring down production costs, said the sources. The initial pricing of the iPhone 5C was set too high at US$600, forcing a number of potential users to choose the iPhone 5S which was available at US$720 initially.t
