Time for CEO and EVP Merchandising to Resign

AGREE... look at my post 6 months ago- totally called this (though happened faster than I though). Scarey that is identical to Fleming-poor acquisition with no plan, horrible culture, no vendor support, Wal-mart exec with no leadership, people skils and innovation, poor casting of key leaders, no strategy and plan with any detail, firing of old guard irrespective of performance. Going to get worse before better regretfully... The PE's are sniffing the carcass...

Selling Hotel Ad's on Client's Home Page

    by mnymkr4u May 9, 2012 6:51 PM

You must be an employee-think about what you just said.... reverse your logic. Why would a hotel in the area pay Homeaway to put a banner on my homepage? Duh... to capture the renter sales. I and other renters that use Homeaway I have taked to beleive that our homepages have been compromised. Like going to a Ford and a Honda banner add comes across the top.

Also- I am having a ton of issues with VRBO... my inquirey emails are no longer coming to my email account and my listing has dropped off the site today. I called to log in the issue and they customer service recording says it will be "at least 2 hours" before they will get to me in the que- then drops my call. Not good...

Frustrating... been a VRBO and Homeaway customer for 2.5 years and now thinking about going to TripAdvisor.

  • As a client (+$600 per year for VRBO and Homeaway subscription), and a shareholder- I am disappointed that AWAY has sold out for a short-term revenue opportunity, selling hotel banner ad's on a website who's core existence is facilitating the rental of homes/condo's as an alternative to hotel stay and would not only sell banner ads- but hotels that are direct competitors to the house in that specific location. For example- my house is located in Mexico, the hotel discount banner ad on my home page is for hotels that are within miles of my house- a great "win" for the hotel... not so much for me. I hope the executive team is looking at these revenue opportunites in a long-term strategic basis recognizing this compromises their core product proposition, revenue stream and customer relationships. I hope the founders, that were renters appreciate this POV.

Hurricane's really help C-store (PTRY) if they do no sustain much damage (operarable within 24 hours- all the rebuilders are heavy C-store users!!! Shocked no one has picked that up.

Also look at FRZ!!! All the ice melts in bins with power outage and people buy as a precaution to Freezer power outage.

The drift begins.... $7.80 here we come.

  • In doing research heard there has been alot of senior level changes and unrest amongst the senior team, that really has not been "seasoned"- especially being a new public company. Should I be concerned that people are looking at items in a short-term basis or by function versus strategically and with wholistic bent. My other concerns is that leadership is critical with the challenges of the business (ingredient cost, margin compression, private label, distributor relations, lack of innovation/new platforms, etc). Need a seasoned, well tuned, concerted leadership team right now -especially when you are the perverbial #3 in the catefory. Would appreciate any feedback others can give.

    The end for SUPERVALU SVU?

This is an awesome thread... good valid points and data. I called this 3 months ago. No strategy, plan nor the right people to execute. Look at the WalMart people that have failed once they jumped of the "Big Blue Bus"... smacks of Hansen at Fleming... buzz-buzz-buzz. Someone will buy this company at a rediculously cheap mutiple- but will wait until the meat is just falling off the bones of the carcass to get the lowest price possible. Until then- this stock will tighten it's trading range and start is decent.

SVU Liquidation Value -$5.72 to $1.89 per share

Valuation 101- cash flows!!! This analysis (asset valuation) is more a BK exercise- there is a viable entity here. A PE firm will look at CF's per operation and then lay in market conditions, operational upsides, and a risk premium factor. I think given this... a $14-15 share price is more the expected level.

Who is is "kicking the tires"? Burkle, Ackerman? Sun Capital?? Will need alot of capital, and good forensic spin-off talent/experience.

Take it from a distribution guy.... wholesalers make a ton of money on inflation. They own at x... vendors raise price to Y... and they sell at Y.... making great instant invoice margin at no cost. (McLane)

Assume this holds true for railways too... Warren is a genious- he is going to make a ton of money with this inflation trend.

    Go baby go....

Go back to my post last week... called this. Again, this management team is inadequate, has no credibility, makes poor decisions (ie Janal to head of Merch)... they have no strategy, plan and are talent poor to execute. I think you need to look at the fundamentals of the business- they could deteriate very quickly in a cash basis. The business model could make for a very accelerated deteriation. Again, as I asked where is the board?? They need to challenge Herkert for a plan, and not window dressing, buzz, and knee jerk responses. I am not buying again until I hear this- they have killed +$3B in market cap/shareholder value. Enough is enough.

Hopefully they latest results will stop the "pumping chatter"...

stating facts...lost a fortune on this company and saw it destroy $+2B in market cap the past 3 years... not "catching a falling knife" and do not want others to loose money as well. This management change and how they handled/commmunicated to the street smacks that Q4 is a big miss. IMO-there model is broken or being very poorly executed. None of this is a bash... just facts
