The "strip" based currency that you've described would seemingly has some insurmountable logistical issues. Why bother with the script when a coin would suffice? Personally, I would rather have the stamped specie (which is actually all that CONgress was empowered to do insofar as the "creation" of money; to afford them yet another easy way to expand the monetary base surreptitiously would not end well.
