Hey weasel .... Alibaba has no direct benefit to Sprint. Period. It only solidifies Mr Son's vision as a businessman. The street knows the connection between SB and Son and connects the dots. Mr Son has a fortune tied up in Sprint and he knew full well before he placed his bets, what he was up against . Only a paper trading short selling #$%$ bag would try and convince a reader here that Son placed all his tokens on Sprint being able to acquire TMUS so he bought Sprint under those circumstances. He's more then a one trick pony.. Unlike you.

so, do you think SB will wait until the Nov AWS spectrum auctions are over and then make a move on Dish?

The Jefferies analysts expect Sprint to report 262,000 branded postpaid net adds in the third quarter and 507,000 for all of 2014. "Promotions are leading consumers to EBITDA-friendly [equipment installment] plans and a new leasing option, though we expect such EBITDA benefits to be offset by pricing-driven ARPU reductions and increased marketing to reinvigorate the brand," they added of Sprint.

smalls.....I agree as well with TR's opinion with the bottom line being 'anything is possible' but your take on if VZ doesn't want Dish, then why would Sprint? I'm fairly sure it's not that simple..and frankly I don't know more then that...but just because VZ says no, doesn't mean Sprint should either. The recent developments between Dish and S in TX is another example. Why didn't Dish team up with AT&T or VZ or TMUS to do those trials?
And as far as the 'secret handshake' comment, that's just another one of my speculative guesses...but I do feel Son and Ergen are kindred spirits of sorts in business. Both are savvy, bold and healthy risk takers.....there not afraid to be disruptive in there pursuits of the greater good and they both love a good challenge. As I've said before, IF Mr Son feels that Dish would be a value add, he'll pursue it. IF he doesn't, he won't. Pretty straight forward. Mr Son knows he's got BILLIONS on the line with Sprint. He's not stupid or worse, naïve...I've also said this many times before, Mr Son knew early on that it would take up to two years for the merger to start showing signs of measurable growth. Those comments are public. He walked from TMUS...and proved he was smarter then AT&T. He has 4 more earnings reports left to finish out his two year plan and demonstrate that he can walk the walk...will he succeed? Time will tell.....

  • mr_whigglee mr_whigglee Sep 25, 2014 6:20 PM Flag

TR, it's going to be interesting to see how Mr Son looks at this as well. IF he feels Dish would be a strategic upside move for Sprint, he'll make a move, probably after the Nov AWS spectrum auction that Dish will participate in...I also think Ergen hasn't lost site of Son's business savvy... Eg getting into Alibaba 10 years ago and the most recent TMUS walk away. Ergen has to respect that , as he is also a fairly astute businessman himself... IMO Son and Ergen may have already done the secret handshake and there waiting for the right moment... Timing Is everything....we shall see..

DirecTV shareholders approve $48.5B acquisition by AT&T, regulatory review still ongoing
    Associated Press 1 hour ago
NEW YORK (AP) -- AT&T's proposed $48.5 billion acquisition of DirecTV is moving forward as shareholders of the country's largest satellite TV broadcaster approved the deal. But it still needs regulatory approval.

Public-interest groups say the deal would lead to less competition, since AT&T and DirecTV provide pay-TV services to about 25 percent of the country. AT&T has about 5.7 million subscribers to its pay-TV services. DirecTV has 20 million subscribers.

AT&T wants to acquire DirecTV is to gain access to programming at lower rates.

The board of El Segundo, California-based DirecTV agreed to the deal in May. More than 99 percent of votes cast favored the deal. That represented 77 percent of all outstanding shares. The deal needs approval by the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission.

DirecTV expects the deal to close by the first half of 2015.

Will Internet TV Forge Dish, Verizon Wireless Deal?

By REINHARDT KRAUSE, INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY

    Posted 09/23/2014 06:02 PM ET

Will the Internet TV ambitions of Dish Network and Verizon Communications dovetail into a merger or network-sharing deal between them?

That scenario looms, some analysts say, as both the satellite TV broadcaster and the nation's No. 1 wireless phone company ready Web and mobile TV services.

Dish Network (NASDAQ:DISH) is expected to launch an Internet TV service — also called over-the-top or OTT service — by year's end. Dish on Sept. 16 added Scripps Network Interactive (NYSE:SNI) as a content partner for its streaming video service, which might be called NuTV. Dish earlier signed up Walt Disney (NYSE:DIS) and A+E Network as content providers for its OTT service.

Sprint spokesman Mark Elliott confirmed to FierceWireless the new iPhones will support Sprint Spark. Sprint's Spark service runs on 800 MHz, 1900 MHz and 2.5 GHz in Band 41 for TD-LTE. China Mobile, with 790 million total subscribers at the end of June, also uses Band 41 for its TD-LTE service, so China Mobile's scale likely swayed Apple to include support for Band 41.

All of Sprint's new LTE phones are Spark-enabled, so it would have been a huge blow if the new iPhone did not have Spark support.

Yo' Drugs.....what the #$%$ is this? at that point NOBODY knew if triband.. WE VERY BODY was speculating....'we very body was speculating' ? get back into rehab you fool....

btw, Drugs, the date stamp was done because you cannot be trusted...of course everyone knows that, but your fraud post was dated 9-9-14 at 2;42pm AFTER the below news was already out....yep, your behind the curve again...

Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will support Sprint's (NYSE:S) tri-band LTE Spark service, the carrier confirmed, giving Sprint a much-needed boost since it is relying on Spark to set it apart from other carriers. However, it's unclear how much of an advantage that will give Sprint as it works to deploy the Spark network, especially because the new iPhone does not support carrier aggregation for Sprint's 2.5 GHz spectrum.

Smalls...it may be a VZ head fake...throwing off the competition is a art....IF VZ thinks they will gain a edge in the marketplace with a Dish deal, then all previous VZ remarks/ bets are off ...Dish could very well be inside the perfect storm now... Sprint-SB vs VZ. Why not... It's all about being competitive , right?

  • more rumors abound since the AT&T-DTV bid goes forward, that VZ may now take another look at Dish? How is the Sprint-Dish broadband trials progressing? Will Masa Son and Charlie Ergen do a deal? or will it be Dish and VZ?

Verizon (NYSE:VZ) executives, at a Goldman Sachs conference this month, said they expect to offer a streaming video service over broadband networks and their own wireless network by mid-2015. Verizon has been in talks with TV broadcasters and major content providers about its OTT offering.

Dish and Verizon are expected to shake up the traditional pay-TV business with their Internet TV services. They're targeting millennials, the generation ages 18 to 30, those most likely to "cut the cord" and disconnect traditional pay TV in favor of free or lower-cost content they can get via the Internet on multiple devices. Dish might price its Internet TV service at $20 to $30 a month, analysts say.
