I think everyone is in shock from the recent unexpected 4 point drop in MUEI. I know I am. Will we recover?

    LITTLETON, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 6,
    1998--EchoStar Communications Corporation (``EchoStar'')
    (NASDAQ:DISH;DISHP) today reported total
    revenue of $246 million
for the three months ended June 30, 1998, a 149%
increase compared to the second quarter of 1997.

EchoStar also reported pre-marketing cash flow of $76
million for the three months ended June 30, 1998, as
compared to $25 million for the corresponding period
    in
1997. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and
amortization (``EBITDA'') during the second quarter of 1998
increased to $8 million, an improvement of
    $5 million
compared to EBITDA of $3 million during the same period in
    1997.

    EchoStar continued to experience strong
DISH Network subscriber growth during the second
quarter of 1998, adding 180,000 net subscribers for a
    cumulative
total of approximately 1.4 million subscribers as of
    June 30, 1998.

    EchoStar's results for the
second quarter of 1998 also reflected improvements in
its operating and net losses. EchoStar reported an
operating loss of $16 million for
    the three months ended
June 30, 1998, as compared to $43 million for the
corresponding period in 1997. The Company's net losses totaled
    $46 million and $64
    million during those same
    periods.

    These improvements in revenue,
pre-marketing cash flow (EBITDA before subscriber acquisition
and marketing expenses), EBITDA, and operating and
    net losses
resulted from the continued growth of
the DISH Network subscriber base and increased net
revenues from EchoStar's Technology and Satellite Services
    business
    units.

For the six months ended June 30, 1998,
EchoStar reported total revenue of $460 million compared
to $168 million for the corresponding period in
    1997.
Pre-marketing cash flow totaled $136 million during the six
months ended June 30, 1998, compared to $37 million
during the six months ended June 30, 1997.

EBITDA for the six months ended June 30, 1998 totaled
$17 million, compared to EBITDA of negative $1
million for the corresponding period in 1997.
    EchoStar's
operating loss for the six months ended June 30, 1998
decreased to $37 million, as compared to $88 million during
the corresponding period in 1997. The
    Company's
net losses totaled $96 million and $127 million
    during those same periods.

Impressed and surprised by the nearly 3 point jump today. Anyone know the reason for the jump?

  • I heard that an article appeared in IBW about LandAir and that is the reason for the recent upward swing. I have not seen this article. Can someone fill me in on the details?

    Grust56,

Spoke with Echostar rep. yesterday. Have already passed the 2 mil mark for subscriber base. This stock is making some people very happy right now!

How will the proposed splitup of Landair into two separate companies affect the current stock? Read an article in the newspaper yesterday that Landair intends to split air transport and trucking transport into two separate companies. Any thoughts?

Take a look through Jan. 1998 Computer Shopper and get an idea of the push for networking Microns. It appears that Micron is taking a hard stance against Dell. Priced competitively with several full page ads.

Triaxal, I could not agree more. I have purchased several Micron computers over the past three years and have been very
impressed with the quality of the machines as well as the customer service. Have had ZERO problems with the machines thus far. Noticed
today that Intel will be cutting the price of the 233 MHz chips by 33 percent and that Dell and Gateway plan to reduce the prices
of their machines accordingly. Micron will probably lower as well just to compete. GREAT, now I can buy even more computer for
my money and support a great company that I feel will provide an excellent return in the coming months.

Benjamin_g, glad to see you are in as well. I too feel that the price will fluctuate between 8-10 with an eventual rise to at least 15. I hope we do not see 3-5 as some predict. Also kept some spare $ in case I want more.

    Happy Holidays everyone!

Despite all the hoopla I am in for 1000 shares today at 9 1/2. If the takeover rumors are true (which I doubt) then I should make a bundle. Even though the ads are not great and Consumer Reports did not rank Micron I have purchased three of their systems in the last 18 months and I feel they have a great product. IMHO this stock is of great value now. We may see the stock at 5 or 6 but I would not be surprised if we see > 15 by mid 1998.

    Reference Msg 672

Pardon me JUSTKID but I don't remember Micron (MUEI) EVER being 80+. I have been following this stock since 1994 and yes the stock has been downgraded recently but I still think MUEI is a good buy. MUEI was down to 10 today and I suspect it will drop to 8 or so but I expect (IMHO) that this stock will be in the 20's by mid-1998.

Appology to the ORCL group for off-subject material.
