sure dodged this bullet. had closed my CTCM position at 3.85 and had been lamenting that play. not after today's report. they scratched the dividend. profits down 50%. wow. couple that with Russian cap on foreign ownership and CTCM doomed. surprised that PPS hasn't fallen further than 13%. i bet it does tho and this is a good position to short.

i didn't get rid of the post, Yahoo did.

    when does the climb start?

  • ceejay,

you seem a decent chap so let me explain...

i am not bashing TNK as Kosmic states. TNK getting clobbered ahead of earnings report for a reason. PPS is predicated on forward looking metrics - not the past. IMO, i believe TNK will have a stellar 2015 Q1 earnings report but i submit that that is common public knowledge and is already baked into the shareprice. no secret there. the EPS estimate consensus = $0.343 with an estimate range of $0.21 - $0.43. 2014 Q1 = $0.20. like Kosmic states, i too think TNK will beat projections. current shareprice depicts that. we will know more on the May 13th earnings release. current shareprice is predicated post ER for 2015 Q2.

what i have a problem with is pumping. there is enough fraud perpetrated in the markets - particularly by investment houses and analysts. Raymond James being notorious and GS being infamous. no individual investor should post pro-company rhetoric, and no company shills should post propaganda without being challenged by individual investors who know pumpers and shills for what they are. the same holds true for Shorts posting false rumors (particularly with small cap stocks). That last statement is actually illegal and a perpetrator is subject to prosecution.

i also have a problem with internet bullying and name calling (like basher or gonad). intolerable.

i am retired and count on dividends and distributions to supplement my meager retirement incomes and identify with others in the same boat. we need to look out for one another. we strive to protect our standard of living and attempt to leave something behind us to make life easier than we had it for our heirs.

lastly, i hope you profit, and prosper, with your investments and hope that Kosmic does too. however, i will continue to post the truth whether someone likes it or not. sometimes that means taking a step down to deal with on their own level.

    Sentiment: Hold

  • while i get hammered by TNK beatdown, here is what helps tp offset those losses...
    1. MBT a Russian telecommunications company. a Buy (IMO) due to Russian ecomony being hurt by low oil prices and current exchange rate for US dollar and Russian Rouple. Company oversold.
    2. as posted, i opened a position with NSH. a storage company for oil and LNG. again oversold.
    3. just re-opened a position with ETP. again oversold.

all 3 have are great income stocks with stellar yields. all 3 should give nice short term capital gains. all 3 coming thru today despite market selloff. i don't intend to increase those positions and have nothing to gain by others buying.

do your own DD but believe you will find them attractive and money makers. i have.

TNK? IMO being sold off due to what comes post ER on May 13th. current drop to shareprice making me wrong. still, i will hold for now....

sorry but i don't think it was simply traders taking advantage of a bad day. that doesn't make sense anyway. look at the volume. there is a selloff occurring and TNK performed twice as bad as the DJI - which was horrible.

despite TNK pulling me down today, i was still able to outperform the nasty market. that is important to me since if i don't beat the DJI i may as well be in mutual funds or ETF's.

am still up 6% with TNK and dividends hit my accounts today which helped (despite the pedestrian yield).

    holding out for better days.

having given it some thought, closed out AAPL position and put it into PLOW ahead of ER today. AAPL has nice things going on but phone sales may have peaked, tablets declining, watch having startup problems.
this isn't too big a play but am anticipating Janik doing the right thing on ER. as posted earlier, i expect a beat to earnings. were i able to trust Janik controlling his cautionary statements on foward looking statements, i would put down more. purchase price = 22.3472$
future looks bright for PLOW and they should be sitting on some nice cash generated from last 1.5 years even with the Henderson acquisition. Henderson should contribute nicely to the bottom line.
sure would be good for PPS were PLOW to announce any kind of a dividend increase or mayhaps a modest buyback.
    we'll see later....

in a nutshell, they underperformed and earnings less than projections. then blah blah blah.

don't you just love the analyists like Lee Jackson from 24/7 Wall Street? he said buy ahead of the ER. i didn't but am sorry i simply held.

all BDC's down today in an up market. investors just not attracted to the loan sharks i guess. banks are up.

Generac is NOT the only home generator. B&S has a nice line and Kohler standbys are great and can be purchased at Home Depot as well as many private dealers.

You aren't going to see any GNRC special dividends for a long time - if ever again. Same goes for regular dividends. GNRC is not, and never will be, an income stock. As for a growth stock, it's dropping like a rock and has been for months.

yeah. i listened to the ER and was so disappointed in the delivery. flat, monotone, no inflection, no enthusiasm, no energy. completely uninspiring. i think Janik needs a speech coach. as a leader, you have to be upbeat sounding. at least, review your message and rehearse. it's important. often it is not what you say but how you say it.
despite beating expectations, shareprices dropping like a rock. will wait for a rebound and then liquidate this position. if Mr. Market sells off on a Beat, can you imagine the results to a disappointment? IMO, PLOW is topped off and yield will not make up for capital loss and opportunity costs. will take the remaining cash and increase TTC position ahead of their ER in a couple weeks.
    another bust here.

How will higher interest rates effect ARCC?

    by c8w88 Apr 22, 2015 3:08 PM
nadsmis nadsmis May 6, 2015 11:38 AM Flag

am not sure putting anything into the market is good at this time. we all know the Feds will be raising the rates. that bodes ill for all income stocks from utilities to BDC's. however,
that hike will allow BDC's to also raise rates accordingly thereby contributing to profits and earnings. will mean special dividends and mayhaps an increase to dividend yields for BDC's. we get that payout. the question is will the drop to PPS be covered by distributions.

ARCC was one position i trimmed in order to increase my PLOW position. do you still hold PLOW? i also trimmed MAIN and TTC to put down into PLOW post earnings release set back.

no new money going into my stock portfolio until after July. i think we all know what's coming and the recent swoon in the markets reflect those concerns.

MXF, NMM, ARCC and the like are good picks but it's all about the timing. personally, i'd wait....

  • while the market is getting hit, MAIN is getting clobbered over the last 5 trading sessions. while all 6 of the BDC's that are either on my watch list, or that i hold, are also down, MAIN is the worst of the lot. DJI down .92% at current for those sessions and MAIN down 2.52% over same time frame. concerning as that is almost a 3 - 1 multiple. altho expectations aren't rosey for BDC's due to looming Fed interest rate move, didn't expect the beatdown to be this bad this quick. as anticipated, utilities are also getting hit hard as well as REITs.
i know good ole RC doesn't like to compare BDC's to the DJI but, the dow is THE benchmark. nonetheless, MAIN performing worse than other BDC's.
fortunately i had closed a position with FSC and BKCC and then trimmed MAIN and ARCC before the bell today.
The MAIN board has been quiet lately. Any thoughts from the Longs out there or are Shorts taking hold?

well, the beatdown continues nearly unabated. am becoming increasingly concerned with TNK PPS poor performance over the past week. altho the market itself is performing badly, TNK getting clobbered. since Apr 28 TNK has lost 7.4% to shareprice. a beat to analyst expectations will not be enough to reclaim recent shareprice loss. the ER must now come in absolutely stellar to drive up shareprice. anything less than that, pow.

doesn't look too promising. selloff in progress....

the recent selloff reversed itself and TNK had a very nice rebound today from noon EST @ +0.32% PPS in a down market. i hope that i will hear all kinds of response over the next 2 -3 weeks telling me how i was needlessly concerned. will be music to my pocketbook.

your credibility would be enhanced were you to know the difference between "their", "there", and "they're". really.
by-the-by, i cashed out MIFI (a short term hold) at 6.31$/share. glad i dodged this recent bullet post earnings release. still in all i like MIFI's potential and have it still on my Watch List. will let the dust settle both with this equity, and the market in general, and then reinvest. no specific entry point but will look for a trend reversal. at this time, i wouldn't jump in.

nope. Beats/AAPL will continue to take market share. Koss is out of it totally.

would not expect to see a reversal in SKUL fortunes.

  • big selloff since earnings rept. was a very good Q but sounded on the down side for ongoing 2015. having seen the down trend prior to ER, i exited at 53.09$ and hence avoided a 12.3% hit.
still have UHT on my Watch List but am going to simply observe for a bit. no cut to dividend, stock buyback should proceed. wonder what else is going on. could it be problems with the govt? anyone know?
