    Nice thoughts.
I read the same article too.
I have no position in this yet, but I have played in the genetics sector for a short while now.
PACB had gotten a raw deal, previously. LIFE is gone, ILMN wants to make sure that no one gets close enough to touch them. SQNM stepped on their own (bleeps) with the lab mistakes by employees that cost them their place in the genetics tools sector. GNOM got bought out by the Chinese and most of the rest are too small for ILMN to have to worry about anymore; even FLDM won't be able to get to ILMN.

Isn't it funny how ILMN has "grown so tall", while most every other genetics toolmaker has had their legs cut out from under them. Not entirely by accident, I'll bet. Litigation won't tilt the table in ILMN's favor as much as they'd like, I'm sure.

Then you have the "thing" with Roche. Ahhh, here's the real rub,
Roche goes hard after ILMN for at least half of 2012 and came away with only feathers in it's mouth. No success. Everyone wondered, what will Roche do next. I was surprised that Roche didn't even try to take GNOM from BGI in late 2012, but in the end, Roche and BGI have agreements with each other (I had read that in DDN (Drug Discovery News)).

So Roche scoured around for a while and eventually settled on little $2 PACB.

That really is a BIG development. BECAUSE, Roche made it known that it wanted into the genetic's space with their pursuit of ILMN. But I never thought that it was because they wanted to get into building endless analyzing machines, like ILMN. I think that Roche wanted in because of the personalized medicine trend and for research.
Now, PACB gives Roche another chance at all of that and perhaps another shot at revenge on ILMN for what happened in 2012. I believe that Roche could be the very strong catalyst to propel little PACB onto far greater heights than where it is now. In fact, I'm willing to put money on it, very shortly.....

    This is typical.
Why just sell it, when you can OVERsell it on news which isn't really that bad.

Someone here wrote how Zacks messed up, and Zacks missed and blah, blah, blah. A bunch of clap-trap.
Zacks knew what they were doing, period.
They overestimated AFFX earnings by like $5 per share and then they were on the other end waiting to collect once AFFX got the beat down. I'd say they played it to perfection.

With all of the quarters that AFFX has had negative earnings, who in their right mind would REALLY put up a serious estimate of $7 per share earnings when most of the rest of the market was expecting what they delvered ($2 per share)????

You're right, the earnings for the quarter wasn't that bad and it showed a turn-around quarter (like one of the PR's called it); but all it takes is one clutching, greedy analyst and a local short-mob and suddenly good news is turned into bad.
Old story played out in other stocks as well. Any real suprise?

Welcome to the modern US equities market, where betting against everything is the ONLY game plan,.........

Why is this BOARD DEAD !!!!

Hey! Shhhhh, for crying out loud.
This board wasn't always this way, and you're no Christopher Columbus.
There was a time when it was FULL of bugs, shorting bugs. They came, they saw, they gnawed on the price until we have what we have today.
Do you have any idea what happened in 2013? No one paid any attention to AFFX and it went up to the tune of 178% !!!
Good things can happen here as long as the bugs stay away.
Don't broadcast too much or too loudly and 2014 could shape up to as beautiful as 2013 was for AFFX.
    Remember, shhhhhhhhh,,,,,,,,,,,
