An entertaining post, captain, and mostly true, to a point. But I do believe the people we should pity are traders, not investors. As an investor, I hold 20k shares of EXEL and have been holding it for years. I care not what the MM's do, or which way the stock price goes over the next 3-days, 3-weeks or 3-months. What I do care about is what will happen in the business, because if their drugs succeed then all of these "pops and drops" you lament will be mere squiggles on the long-term chart.
I think there is much truth in your post, for those who insist on trading. But, as you yourself show quite eloquently, the trading game is fixed just like in a LV casino. The only difference is the odds are probably better in LV...

Obviously broad strokes on the headlines

Just keep in mind that this is China. They don't necessarily have the same views on what is acceptable business practice. They are emerging (somewhat) from a communist/socialist, backwards society into a developed country, and their business practices are developing but are no doubt heavily influenced by cultural norms established over past decades. They still have entirely different cultures and legal norms are the product of culture. You can't necessarily evaluate the risks to BIDU based on what is expected in the US. This may become quite serious - it could, for example, develop into a body of law in China that holds search engine providers accountable for content they recommend, which would be absurd in the US. But this isn't the US by far...

P/E is a worthless metric for this stock. They have very high, non-cash depreciation charges on assets that don't meaningfully deteriorate. Operating cash flow (cash flow from operations less maintenance capital) per share is strong...

Anyone who claims a "1,000% batting average" in investing or trading is either an egotistical liar or a complete idiot. Which one applies to you?

Sounds like you had some inside perspective on management (not "insider information", which would be illegal if you acted on it, but just a better perspective). Good for you, but don't be too hard on those of us on the outside. In any event, I'm out now and since this wasn't a significant position for me (couple thousand shares) I'll take my loss and move on. It happens...I'm not perfect. GLTA

You could be right, but I gave them a pass on the first two, because workers comp can be notoriously difficult to account for and they seemed to be taking reasonable corrective actions. But this time looks to me like outright malfeasance by the CFO and quite probably other members of senior management (I seriously doubt he acted alone). That, combined with the fact that this is the "third strike", completely destroys all credibility.

Third time since I've owned this stock that they've had major accounting issues. There are better places for my money...

Own 2500 shares at an average of $30.81 (ouch!). Think I'll eventually make money, but I'm going to have to be really patient. My timing on buying shares really sucked on this one, but you can't win them all.
