According to the [Taxi & Limousine Commission], yellow cabs make an estimated 175 million trips each year, or about 485,000 per day; the average driver works 9.5-hour days. Uber, by contrast, averaged slightly more than 34,000 trips daily in New York City last fall—less than a tenth of the taxi industry’s ride volume.
The app is only available for VeriFone taxis, which make up about 10,000 of the city’s roughly 13,000 yellow and green cabs.
Petroleum retailers have to act now, because the payment networks’ liability shift associated with Europay, MasterCard and Visa (EMV) is due to take effect in the United States on Oct. 1, 2015,” said Mike Cerminaro, president of ABS. “Retailers who are not EMV compliant inside their store by that date will expose themselves to the liability shift.”
According to Sellers, the RubyCi is the latest POS solution offering from VeriFone and is equipped with a functional site controller included in one piece of hardware providing a complete store management system.
“The combination of POS and site controller makes this EMV-ready solution the only one of its kind in the marketplace. Now, petroleum retailers have the ability to consolidate as well as upgrade their operating technology at the same time," she said.
