If the GOP had a better candidate than Barney Fife , it would be a problem for the party. They are licking their chops because the Donald (Duck) Trump is the favorite of all the cartoon candidates that seek the GOP nomination.
Another GOP climatologist spewing out his vast knowledge. Hard to believe even the Pope knows that failure to address global warming will have catastrophic results. Why would leaders from more than 130 countries meet to discuss how to fairly attack a problem that the GOP considers a myth. I guess any party that denies evolution is likely to deny any science that doesn't agree with their nutty positions from voodoo economics to the evil of same sex partners as parents.
Hard to believe that BAC has had t o struggle through the ML and Countrywide scams for so many years. It never seems to end but then again it will. Too bad Lewis isn't in jail but BAC will in fact survive and those that suffered through this nightmare will ultimately e rewarded.
Funny thing is that Carson actually believes the stupid stuff he says. to paraphrase "the Onion", carson is plagued by a few periods of rational thought
Dr Carson is clearly a really smart guy in many respects. Doesn't attack his opponents and his thoughtful responses to questions makes him incredibly likeable. Here is the problem. His reliance on the bible as the true word of God is troubling. Recently asked if the Apocalypse is near, (john's revelation, the last book of the new testament) he responded that it could be but there was time to divert it. Since he believes in creationism (an amazing 30 % of Americans agree with him) as opposed to evolution, it is pretty clear that the bible takes precedence over real science.
So what would he do if the recent "skull asteroid" which passed within 300,000 miles of the earth was predicted to hit it ? Would he agree with most scientists that we shouldn't try to blow it up but try to knock it off course or would he say that if it hits the earth it is God's plan. If there were a global plague far worse than ebola would he tell the DC to back off because it was God's way of cleansing he earth? He has already suggested a tax plan based on the bible which essentially put more people on food stamps and other entitlement programs..
He is smart. He is an eloquent speaker and a clear and present danger to America
Ever since Boots took control of Walgreens it was pretty clear that their new business model would be based on cost cutting instead of innovation and technology producing the low cost convenience provider. The RAD proposed acquisition is proof positive. They have low cost, lousy locations, poor product selection and no service. This is a bet the ranch on a 7-11 type pharmacy will succeed exclusively on the basis of walking convenience. That doesn't mean existing Walgreen stores won't still be a destination target, it simply means that that strategy is out the window.
Just a symptom of how dysfunctional our government is. As much damage as ML did it probably pales in the light of what countrywide did to trusting mortgage applicants. GOP wants less regulation which I agree with. Problem is that those white collar criminals are seldom treated like serial rapists which they certainly are. Second problem is that instead of pursuing individuals the JD sues companies and just hurts shareholders. We need less regulation and more attempts to prosecute those that intentionally evade the intent of the law. Tough job but until we realize that white collar criminals always find the "loop hole" there will be more useless regulations.
Hard for Trump to win since there is now way he will get the nomination. Even harder for Carson to win because few want to see an evangelical nut job run the country. Cruz is out simply because he is 100% Cruz. Fiorina is out because she has demonstrated that she couldn't manage a little league team loaded with all stars. Rubio, Bush or even Christie would give Hillary a run for her money except that without 100% support from evangelicals and teabaggers none could overcome the GOP platform which refutes climate change, immigration reform, rights for gays/lesbians guns for all, and a half hearted belief in voodoo economics.
What my republican friends don't seem to understand is that only a minority or independents like Hillary and virtually none think Bernie would be much better than a disaster for the country. But I for one would vote for either before I pulled the tiger for a clown like trump or an evangelical nut job like Carson, Huckabee or Santorum. Carly's record speaks for its self - couldn't manage her way out of a paper bag and as much as I like some of the stuff Rand Paul says he is too close to guys like Cruz that would rather be right than win.
That leaves Bush, Rubio and Christie. I will vote for any of them but have no expectation that any will get the nomination.. Can't believe that I would vote for Bernie but it could be that such a pathetic choice is better than the GOP can offer.
Typical GOP voodoo math. 6th grade math question: if 15,000 illegals entered the US everyday, how many illegals would be in the country after just 6 years if the starting point was zero? GOP is so caught up in their warped views, they can't even multiply but of course they don't have to do that. They just inherit their dad's business and hire some democrats to run it.
Haven't seen any well place words other from GOP candidates. In summary, they believe 12,000,000 illegals can be caught and sent home at the rate of 15,000 a day for two years. They believe global warming is a hoax despite the vast majority of scientists and developed countries that know it to be a fact. they have candidates like Ben Carson that bases his tax plan on the bible and his denial of evolution because the bible makes it pretty clear that God created Adam and Adam pulled off a trick not even Houdini would try by creating Eve out of a rib. They want their religious beliefs to be the law of the land including limited rights for women and no rights for gays or lesbians. then to top things off they want the average voter to buy into the notion of voodoo economics that has virtually no academic support in terms of anything but making the wealthy wealthier. Democrats don't have to say anything when the alternative is to vote for an entire set of goof balls.
The Achilles heel of the good to great Walgreen company had for many years after becoming "great" been in the financial arena. Since the early 70's well into the early 2000's the company failed to make sensible acquisitions because they thought they could move in and take over any market. The best example was their failure to . buy into Hawaii instead of starting their own store base from scratch.
Their strength was in technology and that helped offset their lack of financial acumen.
Today their business model seems to be very simple - cut costs. There isn't much left since much has been outsourced. At the store level, serviced cosmetics is surely going to go and the 24 hour photo corner is as dead as "king coal". Pharmacy wlll holdup for a while but relying on Bergen Brunswick instead of a superior in house logistics system is going to result in too many out of stocks and subsequently a steady trickle of lost pharmacy customers. Short term earnings look great, long term future looks grim.
WBA has been living off the legacy of Walgreens as an industry leader. Improved profitability isn't sustainable when the primary reason is cost cutting. There is only so much fat in any organization and after this latest round of cuts, there wouldn't seem be much left, if any at t all.
