Just look at all the free press. Good news for BBRY's advertising department. BBRY will come out smelling like a rose. $$$$$$$$$ Nothing but positive news in a negative way.
On Thursday, Industry Minister James Moore said that the Canadian government expects BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) will be capable enough to recover on its own. His comments came as a result of the decline in market share of once dominated Canadian company, planning for its likely sale and a latest report for vast employee layoffs.
Moore said that he wants the company to do well, to bear sound grow and to continue to employ Canadians to innovate to enter into new growth arenas. He wants the company to compete on solid grounds to the Android and iOS platforms and Windows platforms, generating a good product that proved to be challenging in the smartphone markets. BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) shares were up 0.29% to $10.55 in premarket today.
BBRY has been the talk of town for quite awhile now, with many pundits declaring it dead or dying. Maybe it is, but maybe not.
For a dead or dying company it shows signs of life. So far this year it introduced its new Z10, Q10, Q5 and Z30 devices, and, last quarter, it sold 6.8 million phones. It still has many fans as anyone who reads the comments on SA knows. The devices are solid, well designed, powerful and functional. BlackBerry still is the gold standard for security.
When he was asked about likely government help for the company, he replied that honestly he has not been asked for it personally, but they are hopeful that the company will be able to develop on its own.

Google Inc. is giving Kitchener-Waterloo a morale boost as the region’s largest technology company struggles to survive.
The search giant will invest an undisclosed amount of money in Communitech, a regional economic development initiative that works closely with 650 technology startups to help them build their ideas into viable companies by providing them with space, funding and support.
Waterloo is clearly a place where real innovation is happening, and the numbers speak for themselves,” said John Lyman, head of partnerships for Google for Entrepreneurs. Almost 1,000 tech companies in the region, $200-million in invested venture capital in the last year, and $500-million in technology company acquisitions during that same time-frame. Google even recently acquired a company that was incubated in Communitech

BlackBerry (BBRY) is in talks with Cisco Systems (CSCO), Google (GOOG) and SAP (SAP) about selling them all or parts of itself, says Reuters, citing several sources close to the matter. A prospective deal with these companies would be an alternative to the preliminary deal reached weeks ago with a group, led by BlackBerry's shareholder, Fairfax Financial Holdings, added Reuters. Other companies interested in BlackBerry include Intel (INTC), LG and Samsung (SSNLF).
