True. It is possible that the politicians are not clueless and are only preaching to their clueless supporters. At several debates Trump stated that on day one of his presidency he would stop big Pharma from charging (what he feels) excessive prices. Then only a few minutes later he'll talk about Pfizer leaving America for France and how he would make 'such a deal' that they would stay. It's quite clueless that he could achieve both objective. In fact, his first statement is what will make all big Pharma leave America. And Trump has repeated this rhetoric many times at news conferences, debates and town hall meetings as part of his soundbite shtick. Hillary isn't far behind with her similar banter. I say they are clueless since they have absolutely no grasp or express any knowledge of the reasons why many times the high costs for many drugs is much cheaper in the long term. Perhaps Trump is speaking only of Pfizer's Viagra pricing.
A very well spoken representative from Gilead was on the TV show Dr. Phil discussing the costs and horror of Hep-C before Gilead's magic bullet was created. It was an incredible public relations sales pitch for Sovaldi (and all the biotech products) proving the initial costs for treatment far exceed the long term affects and costs without these super drugs. Hopefully our clueless politicians understand the ramifications of their scorn for drug pricing. Biotech proved to be a much cheaper alternative that not only provides a cure but provides a much greater quality of life.
