    Let's be honest about Pandora

    Dakota,
To answer your question you may want to ask this question: Why in the emerging IR Car Radio Market, of which Pandora has 7 million listeners, why is Pandora only playing 1 minute of ads vs. their normal 2-3 minutes of ads?

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

“Pandora earned 4c for Q2, compared with analysts' consensus estimate of 3c and raise full year 2014 guidance to be between $0.16 and $0.19”

BTW, under laws set by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), publicly-traded firms in the U.S. are required to follow GAAP when they prepare their financial statements.

Good luck with your Short position.

Show me one company that thinks emulating Pandora's business model is a good idea. Just one. No sane businessperson would look at P's financials and think "hey, let's lose money like these guys". Most other streaming services charge a monthly fee (much more than P charges) and those that don't run far more advertisements. P's business CAN NOT survive if they refuse to change their business model. Crying to the government to reduce their expenses will be a failure, and Pandora will wither and die.

Also, artists do not make millions as you claim, particularly from companies like P that wish to give away the artists works for free. A few artists make decent money, but it's not from services like Pandora that pay fractions of a penny per song played and are begging to pay even less. Musical artists make money from live shows (ticket sales), and digital downloads/CD's/merchandising.

“But 1 thing I can say is that in absolute $$ terms most people would consider my position to be a pretty large one.”
LOL Well, sounds like you’re over compensating for something. Let me guess, you drive a bright red sports car and wear an over-sized glittery watch too.

“And no one knows how I trade around my short position and use various option strategies to profit from both up and downward movements in the stock.”
So, you’re saying that if Pandora’s PPS moves lower, you’ll profit, if it moves higher, you’ll profit and if it stays about the same, no doubt you’ll profit as well. LOL
Wow, that’s really standing by your Short convictions. But it actually sounds like you don’t want to be embarrassed here as Pandora continues to climb from your $25 Short position.
What a sniveling coward, get some backbone!

I did listened to the “Canacord” presentation, again and you got it wrong. He didn’t say, “RPM's are $43.00 and in the $55-$60 range we have a healthy, profitable business". Mike actually said, “RPM's are $43.00 and in the $55-$60 range we have a VERY healthy, profitable business". If you listen carefully, he actually started to say extremely, then mid-word changed to VERY, with emphasis. So much for “I quote word for word what the CFO of their beloved company says. With research, attention to detail is so important. And BTW, it not “Canacord” it’s Canaccord as in The Canaccord Genuity Growth Conference, there’s that attention to detail thing again.
Also, in your lengthy manifesto, you omitted the part in the presentation in which Mike states that some of Pandora’s listeners in highly populated metropolitan areas are already registering RPMs at over $100. It’s the small town rural listeners that have very low RPMs and brings the average down. And as of last Q our desktop RPMs were at $61, up from the 50s, of course those RPMs are just a small percentage of total RPMs.And what about those 7 million in car listeners. The Connected Car and IR car radio will be huge. Pandora knows the importance of laying a firm foundation in this new market and instead of playing the normal 2-3 minutes of ads Mike stated we are only playing 1 minute of ads per hour. In time, we will raise the amount of ads but never to the ridiculous 15-17 minutes that Broadcast Radio currently plays. You started posting your sloppy research when we were trading at $25, it’s safe to assume that’s where you began your Short position, so you’re already losing money. No doubt at this point you hear what you want to hear, regardless of the facts.
I took your challenge and you have proven your lack of credibility with flawed, one-sided and very sloppy research! See you at a PPS of $30 soon, which will put you down about 20%.

Looks like not a lot of response to your rather lengthy manifesto, and with good reason... erroneous, inaccurate and plain old bogus. Let’s just take a look at one piece of the bizarre and delusional puzzle:
“RPM's are $43.00 and in the $55-$60 range we have a healthy, profitable business". So they only have to increase RPM's by about 33% in an ad market that almost every broadcaster is saying is soft and with increasing competition?"
Actually, Pandora’s stated “long term goal” is a RPM in the $50-$55 range. You must have missed the Q2 report. so let’s start there. “Total RPMs continued to increase to $43.41, a 7% YOY increase. Pandora earned 4c for Q2, compared with analysts' consensus estimate of 3c and raise full year 2014 guidance to be between $0.16 and $0.19”.
So at the current $43 RPM, we are profitable, just “raised full year 2014 guidance” have ZERO debt and have $324 million in cash. Kind of sounds like a “healthy, profitable business” already without your contrived 33% bump. In any case, I have no doubt that RPMs will continue to increase. So does MKM Partners, “RPMs could more than triple by 2020 to $125, according to analyst Rob Sanderson, MKM Partners.”
Here’s a thought... what’s the average Broadcast Radio RPM in which 15-17 minutes of agonizing ads are played every hour? And how does this compare with a $43 RPM in which only 2-3 minutes of ads are played every hour?

"AT&T customers can connect their GM 4G cars to shared data plans for $10 a month
If you were thinking about buying one of General Motors’ new-fangled 4G cars this summer but were wondering how much that LTE connectivity would cost you, then GM and AT&T today provided an answer. The bottom line: You can get a link to the internet for as little #$%$ to $10 a month, but if you plan to consume any reasonable amount of data on that 4G connection, you’ll have to pony up a lot more.
But among GM’s app store options are several audio-streaming apps like Pandora, NPR and Slacker Radio."

I know facts aren't a Pumpers thing, but the unlimited T-Mobile plan is actually $89.99 per month. So one can listen to Pandora all the time for $90/month, or choose SiriusXM for as low $10/month and listen all the time, with no breaks in coverage, and no use of data for those that have limits.

But you dismissed everyone with an opposing viewpoint as a short and thought you were smarter than the street. Do you even look at metrics? Charts? Trends? Financials? They all tell the story. Well, you do ASSUME a lot.
“The main legitimate thesis of the longs seems to be that P will gain an increasing share of the terrestrial radio market.”
No! And BTW, your question was bogus and didn’t warrant a response. The increasing share of TR is just one piece of a big puzzle. More importantly is the increasing RPMs, especially mobile RPMs. Allow me to quote facts of the Q2 results, “Total RPMs continued to increase to $43.41, a 7% YOY increase. Pandora earned 4c for Q2, compared with analysts' consensus estimate of 3c and raise full year 2014 guidance to be between $0.16 and $0.19.” We are profiting more because of increasing RPMs and I believe these RPMs will continue to increase. We will grow in profitability even if the amount of active listeners and listener hours would freeze at the current levels... which isn’t very likely.
BTW, there are IR listeners that do not listen to TR and never will. Listening to between 15-17 minutes of ads every hour is agonizing and with IR available just about everywhere now, unnecessary.

“If terrestrial radio is seeing weakness its a certainty that so is P.”
A “certainty”? NO! And sorry for quoting the facts again but “Pandora reported 76.4 million active listeners at the end of the second quarter, up 7.5% year-over-year. The company said listener hours grew 29% to 5.04 billion.”
Let me help you with this one, this means that in this highly saturated and completive arena, we are continuing to add listeners, and more importantly those listeners we have are using the product more.

Good luck with that Short position, Q3 results will tell. Oh, you may want to do some homework on historically what starts to happen in September to our listener metrics.
