Research outfit Raymond James says that the debut of BlackBerry’s new BlackBerry 10 operating system and the two handsets on which it runs have gone a long way toward repairing the home turf market share erosion the company has suffered over the past few years. In the fourth quarter of 2012, BlackBerry’s share of the Canadian market topped out at a dismal 6 percent. But by the first quarter of 2013 it had more than doubled, rising to 13.5 percent.

Bloomberg First Word Reporting Pentagon Has BlackBerry 10 Smartphone and none Apple Device
Etisalat, which started selling the BlackBerry Q10 on Tuesday evening says it has already run out of stock. Etisalat, as part of an exclusive agreement, was one of the first to start selling the keyboard version of the BB10 phone, which is getting much more attention compared to the full touch Z10.
Less than a day after it started selling the popular model Etisalat says there are no more units for across the counter sales. However those who had pre-booked will not be disappointed as their shipments are expected to reach them soon.
Axiom Telecom has also started distributing the phones to those who had pre-booked.
Blackberry is expecting the phone to do much better than the Z10.
Chief Executive Officer Thorsten Heins in a recent interview said he expects Q10 sales to be in the “tens of millions.”
Recently launched Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One have already gone out of stock despite growing demand.
Meanwhile, in what could be termed as an indicator of what’s in store as far as BlackBerry is concerned, Heins has said that tablets will have no future.
On the same day as the company started selling its Q10 smart phone across the world, Heins is reported to have said that in five years, there wont be a need for a tablet.
Speaking to Bloomberg at the Milken Institute conference in Los Angeles Heins said, "In five years I don’t think there’ll be a reason to have a tablet anymore… Maybe a big screen in your workspace, but not a tablet as such. Tablets themselves are not a good business model."
The statement is significant as it once again indicates that BlackBerry, which sent conflicting signals about the future of its Playbook, might have after all abandoned the project.
Emirates 247 had earlier reported quoting local BlackBerry officials here that the company could come out with an updated PlayBook soon.

RIM's takeover could happen at the $24 level. Yesterday the Canada's industry minister on Monday said he hoped BlackBerry would remain a national champion but added he did not know what would happen to the mobile device maker, given the "very aggressive" telecommunications sector."We never know what can happen but I've said - and I truly believe this - I hope BlackBerry will continue to be a Canadian champion in the world, that it grows organically," Christian Paradis told Reuters in an interview in his office. He continued: "This is my opinion here but that being said, we don't know what might happen. The market is very aggressive. When you talk about the telecoms sector ... this is a very very aggressive sector." The head of China's Lenovo Group Ltd told a French newspaper last week that the firm might consider an acquisition of BlackBerry at some point in the future.
