I figured the "tool" would show up sooner or later. I can't figure what game you're playing at that maybe you're so bored with your life that you run around msg boards trying to confuse people. Anyone can google "wiki ex-dividend" and see that what I said is correct. Don't bother trying to start a discussion; this is the first and last time that I will respond to you. cheers.
I'm scratching my head looking at all the back and forth on what dates are what when anyone can clearly read the PR from POZN and google ex-div and be 100% certain. So let me splain since you're too lazy to do just that. There are THREE dates of interest.
Date of Record : POZN has stated that all owners of stock as of this date, Dec 11th, shall be payed the dividend.
EX-DIV date: Because it takes a couple days for a stock purchase to settle such that you are on the company register as of the date of record, the ex-div date represents the date by which you should purchase POZN to participate in the dividend. This date is not carved in stone like the date of record is as two purchases on the same date at the same time may take more or less time to settle. Thus, the ex-div date is the approximation of the date by which you should have made your purchase.
Payment Date: the day the check goes out to all who were owners AS OF THE 11th of DEC. anyone telling you that you have to hold the shares beyond the 11th to get the div is full of inter#$%$!
From what I heard in the conference call this dividend is classified as a "Return of Capital" and thus is NOT a taxable dividend nor a capital gain. That means that if I hold my shares through the ex-div then I'm basically getting $1.75/shr of my gains tax free.
If your gains are currently less than $1.75/shr then, after the price aligns per the ex-div then you get whatever gains you had tax free AND you can then sell your shares for a tax loss write-off.
The bottom line is that there is absolutely no reason to sell prior to the ex-div.
Buy first and ask questions later?!? They signed a partnership deal for PA that includes an upfront of $35 mil. They don't need the cash so they're returning some value to investors. Between that deal, the upcoming PDUFA, and the new better deal on Vimovo and there are just too many reasons to love POZN.
