It looks like that AMD is so confident to take the battled heads-on with INTC and NVDA. The early announcements of their next generation processors looks extremely promising:
The latest details on AMD’s upcoming generation of graphics architecture comes straight from Videocardz (via 3DCenter). The sources managed to find some very critical details on AMD’s upcoming Vega GPU which has also been known as Greenland. The decision to name AMD GPUs after stars rather than Islands happened after the Radeon Technology Group was formed which is being led by Raja Koduri. Under his leadership, the team at RTG presented their first roadmap to the audience at Capsaicin 2016.
According to the LinkedIn profile of Yu Zheng who is the manager of research and development at AMD, the upcoming Greenland GPU at its peak capacity, will feature 4096 stream processors. These are not the current generation stream processors but utilize the advancements made in the IP v9.0 generation of graphics SOCs under development by AMD. It is also noted that this chip is the “Leading Chip” of the first graphic IP v9.0 chip generation. You can see the image to the profile and listed details below:

My guesstimate is that AMD will be somewhere between $10 and $20. The rationale behind this the following:
1. Great Chips for: Graphics, Servers, Custom, VR, Cloud, etc...
2. Take 10 to 20 % market shares from INTC and NVDA.
3. Additional Licensing to new markets and INTC.
Tapping in any additional markets or gaining substantial shares in other areas e.g. Memory, phones, tablets, governments, etc will push the price up to trade places with INTC and/or NVDA.
Finally a topic different from bashing or pumping, but linked to this stock.
There will be different opinions on this topic which underscores that VR is going to be a big thing. History is always a good guidance what the future will bring, so your examples are nice.
It is in humans nature to fantasize to escape the reality .....movies, games, etc....the grass is greener...
In 1983 I met Steve Jobs, who was at that time a prototype of a "Yuppie". He only impressed me when he came back to Apple after he was outed by the traitors he brought in.
Me getting older I realized that his vision at end of 70'ties / earlier 8'ties was extraordinary!!
The Apple 2c came back 20 years later UNCHANGED in design. Which meant to me that he stuck with his vision all the time!
Unfortunately I never met with Woz, but read a couple of his books related to Wire /Solid Model graphics designs. How funny is it to see that my old time Hero's vision is going to have a come back in AMD GPU?
Hold-on to your shares till we reach again upper-teens!
I lucked out by selling at $18 and than $15 going down. I got back in around $10 and a couple of days ago bought more for $5+ to soften the pain of my losses.
now hopefully this stock will ride over $30.....looks like a Buy-Out is the way to achieve it.
I made a major mistake during .DOT era not to buy Apple stocks. When Steve Jobs came back for $1 salary per year that should have been my trigger to load up, as an old-Apple employee launching the 1st Mac in Europe.
Anyways, a couple of years ago I helped my daughter with a project comparing Desk/Lap tops by comparing price/components. Accidentally I got was directed by google search to AMD, NVID, Intel, and a couple of other Mfg copy's....Last year I loaded up with AMD stocks to hold for the next 5 years!!
A Dutch saying "A donkey will not make the mistake twice"!! I think the upside is far weighing out the down-side.....aaaaaaand my house is already payed off ;-)
(BTW, Technology-wise I think there are many companies who have great ideas, but AMD's shift away from the established old technology/money and licensing like QCOM is worth betting $ 100K).
Eager to know other Techies view on this.
