This stock has not had any meaningful appreciation for decades!!! It is the largest private landholder in California. One would think that might have some value to it...but no. Unfortunately, the management for all these decades run the company as its own private fiefdom. No transparency. No shareholder responsible corporate governance. It has really existed only to be the private playground for the enrichment of the management and BOD. A total misuse of vast amounts of land and assets. Unfortunately, no activist investor has ever taken a serious interest in the company. Until that happens, this company is destined to languish....probably for many more decades. Steer clear.

Very analogous situation to the Roche attempted buyout of Illumina. Illumina had the technology and Roche aggressively went after it. They made a couple of very strong offers and all were rejected. Today, Illumina trades for over twice the offered price. Dexcom just needs to keep doing what it does well....keep developing the best technology. The rest will take care of itself.

    What Might Cost DXCM.Sell For?

Wonderful company with great technology. Would make a nice fit for a lot of potential acquirers. But NO WAY the deal would go anywhere near $150. A 50% premium, which would be realistic, gives you a price of about $100-$105. Unless another suitor appeared (which is possible), that's probably about it. And, at that price, the BOD and management would be hard pressed to say no.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • What's with TRC today? Up big on good volume. Please, Lord, may an activist investor take a position and put management's feet to the fire.

Probably too small a deal for any of the companies you mentioned. Just wouldn't move the needle for any of them. ISRG is the most logical acquirer.

The recent run up in price probably discounted the good report. Classic buy on rumor, sell on news. As analysts start raising their numbers to reflect the positive earnings and if the market hangs together, the stock should keep working. I really doubt this will remain an independent company by the end of 2015.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

The company has made some tactical moves that have been well received by the street. They've sold some assets, bought some others and aren't loaded with big debt. Bottom line: perceived to have smart management and to be one of the survivors. Not immune from a further collapse in the price of oil, but thought to be able to weather it better than most of the others.

    Sentiment: Hold
