so you're mad that I sold half my position? lol. You're mad that i booked money? Give me a break. Don't fall in love. And lets be honest here. if you bought in the high 1's low 2's last year, this was most certainly a speculative play. Nothing great on the horizon, looking like it was headed toward a BK. Thats what i am saying. Nok is NOT a spec play now. I agree, but last year it was.
I cashed out half my Nok and am looking to park it somewhere else. When I say semi speculative, I am not talking pinks, otc etc. Just stock with some risk that have potential for big moves, preferably to the black side lol. I have had two takeovers in positions over the past year, TRLG and NOK. Made nice coin on both. Looking for the next play. Thoughts?
becuase pigs get slaughtered. Whats wrong with taking profits? We are in this to make money right? Don't fall in love with stocks/companies. Yes they can do better, but they could also stagnate for a few quarters. Whats wrong with booking some of that money.
Full disclosure, sold half my position this am at $5.30. Will let other half ride.
To play devils advocate, that 4.90 was with the idea that they would turn around the devices biz and sell 10's of millions of lumias. Almost 10 months later, that seemed like a long ways off.
I sold half at $5.30 this am. Waited to see if we would get a surge after initial selling to open, we didnt, i took profits, which i assume many others did as well.
I do like the rest of Nok enough to let the other half ride a few qtrs, we'll see.
I mean those who bought in the 1's 2's not those who rode down to the 1's 2's :). Anyway, today is a good day. You knew this was going to happen when Nokia bought out NSN. They needed a biz to be in when they sold off the devices. That being said, what is everyones thoughts on this moving forward. I am in at 2.50, my strategy was to sell and move on, which i could do today. But from what I am seeing, the new Nok will have zero debt, and 3 profitable bizness units. Maybe reinstate the dividend? Who knows?? Thoughts from fellow longs.
And Shorty can eat it today.
How about I look at share price....
July 12, 2012 (the day she was announced as CEO) : $15.60 pps
August 23, 2013 (today) : $28 pps
Yeah, she sucks :rollseyez:
Why would it surge? Umm how about becuase PC sales are dying and its all about MOBILE. Who is doing Windows Mobile (i.e Windows Phone and Tabs) successfully. By any metric you can only answer NOK. The jury is still out on whether the NOK tab will be a success, but there is no denying they are not creating traction with WP8.
That being said a new CEO who focuses on mobile and comes from mobile could ONLY mean good news for MSFTs MOBILE PARTNER, NOKIA
Only to come here and see it hasnt. It SHOULD be surging as well. Windows Phone IS NOK. Kinda dissapointed this isnt surging here on the news.
Let me reiterate I HATE THIS IDEA. I have no clue what Nok thinks they are going to do with this. If there plan is to ship 100k of these worldwide for the year, then yeah, they can probably do that.
Its a 10.1 Tab (sweet spot is 8"-9" see Fire, Nexus, iPad Mini)
Pricing, as it will surely be above $350,
Its running RT (a dud thus far)
Nok cash position: Nok is not in a position to blow money on this endeavor....
As a shareholer that has been long since the mid 2's, I hate this idea. We are knocking on $5, and are going to blow it into the holiday season.
The ONLY way I can approve this endeavor, is if MSFT is giving Nok "platform payments" for Windows RT devices. Under that scenario, I could, MAYBE be ok with this. But if that is the case, MSFT should just buy Nok for $6-$8 ps and let me be on my way.
I HATE this idea. These RT tabs are simply NOT SELLING. Full disclosure, i have never played with windows 8 on a tab or PC. Why oh why are they going to release a 10.1?? All signs point to the 8-9" being the sweet spot. Unless they are going to sell this 10.1" tab for $199 its going to be DOA. The Nexus and iPad Mini are flying off the shelves. An 8-9" Tab for 199 is what they need! Market penetration.
This tab news is not what I want to hear right now. This has right down a year from now written all over it. On second thought maybe not, considering Nok doesnt mass produce anything and seems to enjoy supply shortages.
I'm jaded on the subject. Last year, I agreed, no TABLET. Too crowded, not enough traction for the waste of money. However, now we do have SOME traction. The cheap 7-8" Android Tablets are blowing ipad out the water as far as marketshare is concerned. There is a market for the 7-8" tabs. That being said, Acer/Asus AWFUL small 8" tab they just released was a HORRIBLE product. I think Nokia could slide right into this market.
They need a 7-8" Windows 8 (NOT RT) tablet with the Lumia quality and construction, and price it at $199/$249. I'm not sure if its possible to do that, but thats what they need to do. If they can't do that, then don't bother, and focus on phones.
bought appl at 48 in 2006, sold at $100 less than a year later, wasnt looking to duplicate that trade.
I bought in the 2.50's, bought a 920 on launch day, really do love the phone, had come from iphones since 2006. I was excited for the platform. But #$%$ is WRONG WITH THIS STOCK. The co reiterated last week. Why the eff does this keep on dropping EVERY DAY!!!
You mention Samsung, the same Samsung that doesnt even sell/offer an RT Tablet (in the US) because there is ZERO demand for one. Think about that for second, Sammy, who has amazing scales of ecomony says they cant make money with an RT tablet, yet we all think Nokia will.
I am long Nok, but I hate this idea for a 499/599 Win RT Tablet.
if we are going to have any success. They can do an 8.9" too for $299, but anything that is trying to compete at the iPad price point is going to be DOA
