yup - i hear u...i had gains that I wanted to take so the wash didn't affect me...and i agree, that it would take a lot for the taxers to get upset about......tanks for the discussin--- signing off
at least i made u laugh. which for a guy thats been riding this down, I am glad I can be of service...and me, talk my book....c'mon - i m just a working stiff like you....retired from the force with 16 grandkids
the one thing is that you have to eliminate or change what TT brought in from your broker (unless u manually enter hah!)...i forget form number....otherwise, there is double tax...but o.w., TT does an OK job...one thing, i did some research and technically you have to do a "substantial" partial sale if you want to trigger passive activity losses....so if u traded out of your position and back in, which I did last year (nice ride, btw) on same names - then i guess that counts......i read somewhere that one guy sells everything in his account and buys in his wifes or waits till Jan 1...helps explain the ride these MLPs take at eoy.....
now its $7.60 a share. Last year it was $9.80. You got 2.40 in distributions so call it a $7.40 basis. That is 2.7% not 10%. but lets not forget it was trading 12.50 at the time....poor retail....does anyone believe?
wait till the distribution starts diving in december....c u next year!
no divvy cut but i do think its abominable that management is still earning huge on the IDRs AND they sell shares (no matter how small and "rational"), a few days before an SPO. I've also noticed, they keep taking things out of their presentations that give investors the full picture (like spreads)...and they were opaque on the CC about new equity - of course the analysts were push overs....everything points to management that does not care about common unit holders...and why should they, if things get really bad, the GP (i.e., the "family") comes in with an equity infusion and reboots the game...good for them, bad for common.....can't win
well that is anyone's guess....at the end of '13's book value, $25 was 1.6x book value. With new shares and some capital burn this year, book per share is 14.5 so the same multiple would imply more like $23....that would be a 12% yield which for no growth/low coverage and high leverage, is not crazy...i know, others will argue its a bargain here...to each his own...
keep an eye on volumes vs 3m average prior to announce
jrad - if one does a partial sale do u take the PALs then or do u have to (or can u) wait until total disposition? The latter is "easier" from a book keeping perspective but the former would minimize ordinary income...thanks
i do agree is was priced in to some degree...the fact that it is an "ATM" and given the underwriters, the risk of a share dump is decreased....its more of an insidious increase in share count ... i expect them to raise the capital this Q and the street try to distribute while crack spreads are seasonally up
mikey - u sure you aren't with CLMT's investor relations? you've been arguing with me that no secondary was going to happen for months now and now you are saying its a good thing....
yes, when u sell an MLP there is ordinary gains and capital gains, the latter depending on adjusted cost basis etc. etc....but basically, you didn't (nor them) pay taxes on the distributions you received (it was all depreciation) so you have to pony up now...
you are a total buffoon - u don't even now a thing about T boone's "buys" nor his history of being with doug and the boys during the last take out of XCO back in '03, the flip, and then another try in '11.....tax loss selling, what a joke.....if u had a brain, you'd now what BP selling shares really means......a fool and his $$$s, soon parted
geologically speaking, south guensey is light years from stark co, so I wouldn't get bulled on the oil window (yet).....carroll co is the key, do a 1y drill carry, 15% for 1y, well cost to EVEP 2-2.5mn, 3 y drill program, turns CF positive in year 3 but +tive ebitda in yr 2 w/ no chg in leverage...secure finance if needed but get it done....why sell at 15k/per at the backward strip when its worth more, al ot more
