The news is out, did you read the 6K on Zacks? They are creating 1 billion new shares at PAR $1.
It appears they plan on self financing instead of going to a bank. I'm not going to buy any more shares until it hits $1.

I bought a few more shares today at $1.76
The reason why all the shippers were down is tanker rates all dropped again yesterday. But they all moved back up today.

I did 2 buys today. Lowered my cost basis nicely. Took some profits elsewhere, so planning to do a third buy in a bit.

Germany gets 50% of electric power from Solar

As far North as Germany is, solar panels are not very efficient more than half the year. During the winter time when they need the electricity the most, solar panels are almost useless. Thats why they are building a lot of wind farms along the Baltic Coast spoiling the view and #$%$ off the locals.

In regards to solar power and solar towers, PETA and tree huggers are alarmed a the rate their killing birds. Animals not quite adapted to technology, do not understand when they fly into that bright area, they get instantly fried. Also they are #$%$ off a all the birds the windmills are killing.

But yet none of them live with just candles and coal oil lamps and things that avoid the use of electricity.

I bet they take hot showers and baths every day too!

Meaning storing oil on tankers reducing return trips and extending voyages.

AFRAMAX now back up to $40,000, 13 knot VLCC around $40,000, 8 knot VLCC around $32,000 starting to hold a new trend line. As more Japanese refiners come back on line from Tsunami repairs, we should see a pick up of VLCC shipments. Also with the price of crude oil sinking, we might see a rush to fill up reserves in case of war. However crude oil did move back up $1.59 today due to unstabilizing world events.

    OT BS alternative power costs

you might be aware, the NRC recently shut down the San Onofre dual nuclear generators perminently. The plant bought new steam generators from a Japanese company that resulted in a vibration problem and damage to coolent piping. So scratch 2 more off the list. Will cost over $1Billion to shut them down permently and probably several billion to disassemble and remove everything.

San Diego utility rates about to soar. In Detroit its going to get far worse.

FRO even got an upgrade and stock went down

As always you have great posts.

VLCC rates yearly average is better than the past 3 years. One of the things that hurt VLCC rates was the Tsunami in Japan knocked out almost 1/2 of their refineries, which are now just coming back on line. Along with shutting down all their nuclear power plants for a while, imported refined products has hurt their pocketbooks hugely. They know the value added to the national economy by refining it at home is a no brainer. So as more and more of their refining capacity gets back on line, so will their demand for shipping.

China has had a soft spot in their economy for the past 3 years, as such has not needed as much crude oil imports as before which further stressed the operating margins of the tanker companies. With America's economy strengthening, there will be more demand for Chinese products and they will need more crude oil to cover that production as well as expand the quality of life for the average Chinese person which includes more electrical use and the purchase of an automobile.

China is now one of the largest markets in the world for automobiles. Not only is there a lot of pent up demand, there is essential demand as well.

China is also expanding their interstate hiway infastructure east and west that will ultimately hook up with the arabs and Persians for direct trucking into Europe as well as automobile traffic and tourism. I see a huge demand for oil in China and Russia will not be able to supply the excess that China needs, hence will require more tanker shipments.

Its a long term bet in my opinion.

I added a few shares when they were cheaper. Just took profits on X (U.S. Steel) so if they get cheaper again, I'll buy another fleet of them.

Aframax rates moved up +$15,000 today. Depending on the scale of Bomber Obama's new Iraq war, we may see rates approach $250,000 again like 2003.

Tanker rates moved up today thanks to Bomber Obama's gift.

This could be 2003/2004 all over again when VLCC rates hit $250,000 per day and FRO paid a $5 quarterly dividend.

As of now Suezmax rates are $65,387 and 13 kt VLCC $47,340.
I'd say they are making money.
