You have to ask yourself? Why would a man with his name on the building, just walk away from a company his family built?
There is no member of the family working for wags, what does that tell ya?
    Something stinks wicked bad!

why is wags cutting more people?

  • Another great wags employee telling you how great Kevin was, read this, what more do you need? This guy was first class and now he is gone!
Just like Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman when the snobs would not serve her at dress shop, "mistake, Big Mistake!"
That is how we all feel about Kevin. I hope he ends up with another drug retailer and then he can call wags and say "mistake, Big Mistake" to them, not that they would care.

I worked for the company for 25 years and I am very sad to hear Kevin has left the company. This family cared about the employees and I was very proud to work for the company.
Losing Kevin is a BIG HUGE LOSS and I think it will hurt the company.
He had insight to really what was needed to continue on the great path of excellance.
Working under Kevin and knowing him he truly cared about the workers we weren't just cart collectors, bookkeepers, managers, cashiers we were part of the family. He cared for each and every employee as they were a brother or sister.
I can remember how important the chain felt about the customer and I can remember how they valued the employee and helped you move up in the company.
The Walgreen Family and the Walgreen Drug Chain let's just say I don't think Walgreens will be ever the same.
Kevin was truly a great person and a wonderful Manager, DM and VP he should have been CEO of the company.
I think someone will offer him the job of a life time because of his great success and knowledge of business and I would be very proud to work in any company that has Kevin P Walgreen as their Upper Management.
CVS/Walmart/Target should pick him up as a VP he knows how to get things done. In this hard time we all live in we need someone in retailing that understands the Back to Basic approach, morals, character, thinking outside the box to get the job done and this is Kevin...............
Sad to see him leave the company I worked 25 years for which is 1/2 my life. From Cork to Kevin I was very proud to be called a Walgreens Employee! Because the Walgreens and the Walgreen Family I worked under treated me like I was family and cared about me!!!
Whatever Kevin does he will be great!
    A friend

It all comes down to this.
Why is wags cutting a 1000 people from corp to field?
    These people have families, Children?
    This makes me sick!
Just telling you how i feel.
They did not have to lose their jobs!
When we hear these numbers we are doing just that, but these are people, real live human beings and wags needs to care!
Let me go throw up as this is terrible.

So, There was no better way than to cut 1000 of wags most loyal? Could we cut back the salary of the ivory tower?
If the new ceo makes say 10 or 20 million this year and gets another 20 million in stock options that now must be accounted for according to the new us policies, would that have not saved a 1000 people?
I could name twenty ways to cut these costs, but I guess it boils down to, does wags care about it's people, the answer is that they are not appreciated, heck, even rad did not do this and they could go under any second.
To top that off, are you telling me that wags had a 1000 people on the payroll who were worthless?

You know also that there are two ways to skin a cat, what about getting sales up?
Growth? just cut, cut, cut and who cares about wags employees or families?
This makes me want to throw up!
Do you realize that behind the number is 1000 families that now have no income? 1000 plus kids that have families destroyed?
I guess the number 1000 is just a number to you and these were wags greatest people and now they are on the streets!
    Great job!

you said they cut 1000 corp jobs...
That is not true, is it?
    yes or no?

I got you 100% and you can't even admit it!
I know if I made that mistake, you would be all over it!

The difference between me and you is that I would admit my mistake.
You are trying to get around it.

    Here is your post!
    Word for word

    1. Wrong. They did not cut 1000 field managers. They cut 1000 corporate jobs. That is where you cut jobs, at the corporate level and NOT the field and store level.

Banana, I told the truth! 100% and here is the proof! I can give you links! Whatever you want!

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Walgreens (WAG:
27.00, -0.75, -2.7%) plans to reduce about 1,000 corporate staff and field management positions in 2009, the drug store chain said Wednesday

Then someone please tell me why bananarug says that "no field people are being cut?"

Bananarug, even your supporters are posting information that I have posted, yet you say that I am a liar?

    Please explain this one?

It would be nice if you just said you made a mistake and that I am correct.
That would be the right thing to do.
I do not want to debate a pro wags person as long as you support the people.
This company has already lost one of the greatest people ever to work for wags.
Kevin Walgreen was the only thing that could have saved the company and he walked out because he was never given a chance.
He could have turned this place around.
His name is on the sign out front and he is even so ticked off, he walked out.
how do you think he feels?
NOT ONE WALGREEN LEFT AT WALGREEN'S!
    SICKENING

    1. Wrong. They did not cut 1000 field managers. They cut 1000 corporate jobs. That is where you cut jobs, at the corporate level and NOT the field and store level.
Banana, You have to do your research, here is an article from market watch, I thought you knew wags? Do you not see the email sent to the stores?
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Walgreens (WAG:
27.00, -0.75, -2.7%) plans to reduce about 1,000 corporate staff and field management positions in 2009, the drug store chain said Wednesday

    2. I am not going to sit here and go through each and every old news clip, but was posted on the board as well as in the news that these three individuals were just hired at wags just before the layoff news was announced.

3.It was in the Chicago Tribune, Do you want me to look this up for you as well, it has been posted on the board for quite some time, this is not new news.

    4. Taking away the x-mas bonus card was a horrible thing to do, little cost to the company. Just take away one day of salary from the ivory tower would have paid for this complete program.

    5. I do not post on the CVS board and could care less about them? What is your point? they are both dirty, Im ok with that, So, you admit that wags are dirty?

    6. Are you serious, the company is eliminating the people who built this company, cutting store hours, cutting corp and field people and you think people are "happy'?

    7. I hear it everyday, first hand knowledge. Do not care what you think, it is what I KNOW!

    8. He is not a great guy at all, he was the problem, Kevin was the answer, Wags needs a Walgreen to head Walgreen's, how is this company ever going to survive?

    9. Jeff, was a mediocre CEO at best. He needed to go. Ask Yank. Can you please tell us all how much it cost WAG to bid on Longs? Otherwise, another general statement by you. I talked to one of the field people and they said they thought the cost was in the tens of millions, whatever the total cost, it was a complete waste of time and money and cost Jeffery his job

    10. Please explain how WAG lost market share, besides your buddy Tom Ryan saying CVS is gaining market share. Please cite sources. It was in the news, wags market share has been dropping for some time, why do you think the other drug stores are passing wags in sales? Do you understand that wags was once the highest volume drug store chain in America? Do you realize that wags used to be number one? Do you realize that wags was going to have 10,00 stores in growth by 2010? what happened? how come they are now number 2? why did they not crush cvs and wags when they had a chance? when they were the big dogs? now what?

I could go on and on about wags, I know it much better than you will ever know it.
You are out of touch with what is happening, don't you ever see the e-mails and memos?

    Banana,
I realize you are pro wags as I have an interest as well and maybe you have a point that not all 1000 people cut are actually field people, however we do have over 400 people from corp being let go, retired, however you want to put it, so where do you think the next 600 are coming from?
You know that more cuts are coming and you know the field will lose a significant amount of people.
    So am I wrong?
