Anyone see the action in Origin Agritech today? Jumped 50% based on a WSJ rumor of interest from the Chinese government, based on their seed business. Anyone know what GRO's seed business is like by comparison? PGW has a seed business and also there was a joint venture back in 2010. In addition, Agria has a cooperation agreement with Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences.

Unfortunately, I cannot link to any outside articles, but if you do a search for "China Seeks to Develop Global Seed Power" you will see the wall st journal article on SEED.

Also, look at Agria's press releases for 2013 and you'll find, "Agria Renews Co-Operation Agreement With Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences for Edible Corn Seed Cultivation and Technology Development"

Also search for "Agria Makes Strategic Investment in Proprietary Corn Seed Company and Enters Exclusive Sales Agency Agreement" and you'll find the 2010 release.

All in all, that WSJ article is an interesting development. And the $60B number must be wrong.

My guess is that someone unloaded a bunch of shares for whatever reason. Regardless, in a stock that's this thinly traded, it happens. Volume today was enormous.

If you look at the sharetrader board for PGW, they all seem to be pretty excited about PGW, of which GRO owns 50.22%.

When a company is valued at $58mil but own 50% of a company with a market cap of $370mil, eventually things should shake out.

That may be true to an extent, but I think the NDZ to RMB exchange rate matters a lot, too.

The PR had no mention of exchange rates other than to say that exchange rates cloud the ability to offer projections.

Crazy. GRO trading at/near 52 week low and PGW.NZ trading at/near 52 week high. GRO is taking 50% of the total PGW.NW dividend, and GRO is valued at a fraction of PGW, despite GRO owning 50% of PGW. Something is bound to give. Not sure why they're releasing earnings on a Friday, but we'll see what happens tomorrow.
