Just quoting both Apple and GT press releases back on 10/23...
"GT and Apple will continue their technical exchange involving the development of processes for growing next generation sapphire boules as GT continues to build on its successfully deployed ASF115Kg technology and expand its range above 165Kg."
More than remote...Apple didn't just say in their post bankruptcy deal with GT that their interested in GT's continued advancement of sapphire for kicks. They got in a room and hugged it out and told them if they fixed their cooking issues give us a call.
GT has been back in Salem and Merrimack working on the issues the last 8 months....guaranteed
Heah..no hard feelings here. We just agree to disagree on what could happen. It's refreshing to see a debate on a msg board not going in the gutter. Peace Out!
Everyone has an ax to grind....I'm no exception.
For whatever it's worth....Apple is not going to be supplied by the likes of Rubicon or any other half-baked sapphire manufacturer, They were going into the business themselves before they talked TG into going all in...Apple didn't make all their money being knuckleheads. Apple was also very surprised when they filed bankruptcy....despite whining from GT, Apple's interest was still very high by their words and their actions.
One final thought...in 5yrs, GG will not be on any smartphones. Apple didn't pour a half billion down the rat hole. They had sapphire proto-types they fell in love with....It's just a manufacturing issue at this point. Think about it..
A message board is all pretend my man.....same way they did before, being bankrolled by the largest company/cash hoard in the world.
Here are some facts...not all but just some
1. The largest company in the world is steadily using more and more sapphire.
2. They have access to over 2,000 new furnaces located and installed in their million square foot facility.
3. The failed vendor has had 8 months to fix manufacturing issues in their environment, while receiving cover from creditors and vendors during a bankruptcy procedure. I bet they try to keep this going as long as they can...
Geez....a third of the screens I see are smashed/spider webbed. Is Corning really doing a great job??
Last I checked..Apple still uses 25% of worldwide demand of sapphire on their camera lenses, thumb sensors, and some watches. They've also stated in a news release that they'd still like to work with GT on sapphire improvements. Who knows...
At this point...nothing would surprise me.
The furnaces are built....they have a bunch of very talented people still in place(not talking the C-Suite Waterskiboat)...they've had the time to fix issues at Merrimack/Salem...Apple still wants the glass for the future..
TC could wake up one morning and tell TG to start the ovens again...wouldn't be a grain of sand in the Apple cash hoard. Think about it.....
Waiting for the garage sale......I'd love to know someday all the levels of intrique on this deal.
Matt, You should think about it someday when all the chapters are written.
Interesting....perhaps a bit of GT lightening started this baby. I'd check the video for characters looking like TG and Squiller leaving the scene with empty gas cans in hand.
You gotta be able to laugh about it before you can truly cleanse yourself of this debacle....the TG threats are old and boorish and also counter productive
