If you own this stock you should know..

I hope you know more about store management than you do stock valuation. I sold at 48 but it is not a short now. If you short now it is likely you will lose some money. The stock is closer to a bottom than a top. There is no debt here and the unseasonable weather of the first quarter did challenge sales right across most retail concepts. The stock is clearly undervalued. I will look into the special order process. The only time I have been asked about the loyalty program was at the check out and it does not offend me but I do refuse. There are better ways to develop a strong retention program although some sort of rewards feature usually is one of the key tools that is included in the program. Unfortunate for you that you may have had a poorly trained district manager. Most companies in retail have an exit interview process that goes above the district manager level. Hopefully you will be contacted to participate and you should give honest feedback as that is how problems get fixed. Good luck to you. Keep in mind I will be buying into your short position for awhile at this level. I take pretty big positions as well.

Oh yeah a real piece of excellence . Review the financials you nit wit. It is closer to the bottom of the range than the top. This is what you rookie shorters do not get. Strong comp gains even in the weather troubled 1st qtr. )ver a 30% earnings growth and new store growth which is nothing short of sensational. I agree that valuation makes it a channel trader but it will break out and up from this level. Watch and learn .

    Interesting Ackman gambit

Please.............Ackman for the good of mankind ? This is Wall Street this was about saving his cookies when he opened this short position and it initially worked just fine but with these broad sweeping statements and claims of zero was so far over the top it was a parody of a Hedge Fund Manager. There was a successful short by Einhorn and then he went long at Ackman's expense. Chapman , Ichan , Soros and Stirritz all went long. Ichan and Soros have no problem with shorting but they chose long. Ackman allowed his ego and his own exhaust choke him and now he wants the regulators to bail him out. Not going to happen. This gambit was more of a cry for help. He can see this is unwinding in an unfavorable way and this was his Hail Mary. Intercepted.

Even if you do not understand how Ackman attempted to manipulate you it is not wise to let everyone know what a fool you are. Best to be quiet and go puke your guts out with the other shorts.

Maybe $100 after earnings. The FBI, SEC, FTC and so far no AG has taken any action than to investigate . Believe me if there were any serious issues they would have come to light already. Ackman knows this and he attempted to use this last presentation to scare the price down as he wanted to get out as whole as possible. Day one of the pre-scare was a great impact for the short side and the rookie idiots who post on this board.. I am sure old tex got sucked in and banged like he well deserves as he can not think for himself. Ackmatrons are cooked. Wow I can smell equity burning in the air today. Thanks again Billy. You are the gift that keeps on giving. Earnings coming soon. Load the trucks.

  • Greenberg and Ackman. As soon as they come out with their misleading negative presentations on the company the stock goes up. Thanks again Billy. Herb has just recently been allowed back on CNBC. I would think that they might revisit that decision. It would be great to hear him pontificate on how stupid everyone is with the exception of him, Ackman and Tex. Thanks again boys. Hey special shout out to Flutie. On the day of victory no one is tired.

Good post. I have played here off and on over the past three years very profitably. It is arguable that it was over valued a bit post split. No question in-climate weather in the spring period can have a tough effect on early spring assortments start to sell date but as in the past when the weather breaks shoppers still have a need that needs to be filled. I look for sales in the value driven retail market place. DSW is the World Class operator in the highly brand driven shoe business. The management which is skilled and experienced buying their shares at this level along with GS upgrading the stock is a clear invitation to buy in at this pivot point. I believe we will see a share price in the mid to high 30's before year end. Even with this struggling economy. Better goods accessible at affordable prices.

  • Excellent free cash flow and growing. No debt. No debt.No debt. Strong market show as the best of class operator in the markets that hey compete in and a stronger e-commerce performance. This business is very weather sensitive but when the weather breaks the sales break up. A slower economy can be challenging but this concept can find new customers in a challenging economy due to nice name brands at deep discounts.

I am sorry that it did not work out for you. I am only long here and I have made money buying on dips and you can as well. You must remember there are a lot of shorts that are manipulating or at least attempting to manipulate the shares with scare tactics and incorrect correlations that are not congruent .The stores sales are stellar both in new markets and fill backs. The comparable store sales are among the best in all retail at the moment. They have no debt. That is correct . NO DEBT and they will open 62 new stores this year that will pay back their total investment in one year. This is unheard of in retail history for a fast growth company. The short side will attempt to convince you that it can not be done. Why ? Because companies that have very little in common with FIVE had problems with their performance. OK we will see.

    2 STORES EMPTY TONIGHT

That is interesting. I went to a store in Torrance, California and there was a nice business and the seasonal inventory was selling very well. This store always has business though I will admit. They probably could have 20 stores more in the LA Metro Market and all do well. Nice talk about a Private Equity Deal going on currently. If this happens they might be able to steal the company and give a nice profit to shareholders at the same time. Rare.
    Target price $40.

I agree that sales revenue is the flywheel here and this has been a consistent result of Rouleau's past companies. He delivers. He certainly is not exciting or even that smart but he is smart enough to know the basics of strategic planning and the key premium required on execution. This is his key to success. Not a great guy . A lot of blind spots and more than a little arrogant but he is usually right at the core and he delivers.

You will not be sorry GS is calling for $35 and I sold it last year at 48 and came back in at 27. I believe if they have a beat quarter which is likely as estimates are low we will fly.

The stage is set. Stores have a great seasonal line up and the weather is good and the sales funk that plague weaker chains does not exist here.revenue will begin to beat the street estimates and the operation is world class in the discount name brand shoe industry. None better. Employment is improving slowly but it is moving up. This is a leading indicator for the economy. Relax. Get your positions bolster with some options and enjoy the ride.

That is a good assessment of the electronics disaster. I believe they really did not want electronics for all the problems but decided they could not run the business without them. So they put the needle back in. It should not have taken a year to decide, It was not hard for them to re-enter the business in actual fact. They just did not make the call fast enough and this is part of the problem with the watch business as it became a surrogate for the electronics business. They ended up damaging two categories. This was a very poor decision.

I believe the company will keep McGrath if they can work it out. He is competent and honest dealing. Two strong attributes for a CFO. It is hard to imagine that leadership and management of the revenue side would be able to adapt to any real change but who knows ?
