Verizon has cut three states out of the pie and took a helluva hit with Vodaphone. As a result, staff has been cut and the remaining carbon units are working 12 hour days to make up for the lost talent. Way to go VZ.
or they fire you anyway and transfer the job to some drone unit in Bangalore with no bennies and a salary of $20 per day and bill client $250 an hour. Great for shareholder value isn't it. The customer? Oh hell, we are just following his directions says IBM.
Oh my but you have rosy view of the future. IBM will miss it, as it usually does. (Had a chance for ethernet but went with token ring. Had a chance with Windows but went with OS/2. Even had a chance to buy a fat chunk of Microsoft and passed on that one. Had a chance with the original PC but blew that in favor of PS/2. SNA? OfficeVision??? As/400 was moved offshore recently. So, what the hell as IBM ever done right?
AstraZeneca was a big deal. Hilton Hotels was a big one. State of Texas was another one. Service Master was a big deal. What happened to them?
Go live in India, where the IT jobs REALLY ARE. Shill - listen up, this is an IBM board and financial and business discussions are OK here, not about the Ford Motor Company or political #$%$ or pennystocks. IBM is destroying itself by financial gimmicks, hey those 11 quarters of revenue DOWN help alot. But drink your koolaid.
ALWAYS the job cuts call those techs DEADWOOD or some such insult. Cut into the bone, and more. That is not DEAD WEIGHT.
Next up in Ginni's gutting of the IBM carcas should be the sale of IBM systems. Maybe she can sell everthing IBM domestic and that way have zero salary and associated employee benefit costs, THEN INDIA will shine like the low cost diamond they want it to be. Clients won't like that of course, but hell, shareholder value is the only thing that counts, right???
I BELIEVE IN LOUSY MANAGEMENT. GO URSULA!!! Keep delivering poor results and WE ARE GOING TO $12 TODAY. I USED TO BELIEVE AND YOU SHOULD TOO. More Lousy results COMING....
The really real problem is that IBM still believes it is the IBM of old, the giant who manipulated the market, managed market share by FUD tactics and could swing mainframes this way and that, rules that no longer apply to anything happening in IT today. Old habits are very hard to break. God help Ginni if she places reliance on "foils" in presentations. (IBMers know what that phrase means).
Brilliant how IBM, with over 300,000 employees won the fight against Microsoft, right? And look at the dominance of OS/2 WARP over that long forgotten Windows? And look how those PC systems are just flying off the shelf, right? And look at the Texas Data Center? All the revenue from AstraZeneca and Hilton. Wow, brilliant moves IBM.
And it guarantees alot of paid workers in Cairo. Of course, the thousands being fired over here can move to Egypt very quickly and, of course, that is an enormously STABLE CORNER of the world right now, right?
Every three months or so somebody posts the notion that CSC will be bought and this happened for the past few years. Not going to happen, least of all with IBM which is engaged in dumping staff and other entitites right now. Wants nothing to do with buying a firm whose commercial side is toast and government side is difficult. Besides, $98 is a pipe dream.
And all IBM workers in the Duboque, Iowa facility are fired because of this and I am sure that Kaiser will greatly come to appreciate the higher quality of service Bangalore provides. Sure they will.
And then they go ahead and lose big, mutliyear contracts because they do not have technology saavy staff to support the client. Add in the Roadmap 2015 is dead when it was alive a year ago and you have a company in real trouble. Capiche?
Respect for the employee
Go the extra mile to do a thing right
Spend alot of time keeping the customer happy.
Not a word about shareholder value or earnings per share?
So today it would be....
Respect for the shareholder
Go the extra mile to reduce expenses and keep shareholder value up
Spend alot of time keeping shareholders happy.
So if IBM is doing so great, why are they firing people, why has Ginni produced consistent revenue DECLINE and not gains? Why do clients LEAVE IBM? IBM is a non-player in the cloud game, as with the PC long ago, it is too large, too late and too slow to arrive at the dance.
It is absurd that she gets a substantial raise at this time. The CEO has to take their share of the bumps and sometimes even work for $1 a year, HEY - STEVE JOBS DID IT. IBM is in trouble and she has multiple misses for revenue, dumps the Roadmap 2015 plan, fires thousands today and drives off from Armonk in her Benz with a nice fat raise. GOOD JOB IF YOU CAN GET IT. She is #$%$, pure and simple and the Board is the same for allowing this. May IBM implode because of this.
Not only Ginny got the big bucks....
CFO Martin Schroeter will receive a 2014 bonus worth nearly $740,000.
Steven Mills, head of software and systems, will get $703,500.
Senior vice president John Kelly will receive nearly $800,000 and
General counsel Robert Weber, now employed as a senior adviser, will pocket $737,000.
